You are right, so many people don't know about it, i'm one of them, i just watched it and what a masterpiece! it talked about something so delicate and sensitive quite remarkably.... the color of the skin means nothing when it comes to doing the right thing about the well-being of a child.
Why because a crackhead isn’t a person to you!! He isn’t worth anything and should be stepped on?? Put your foot on his neck type..we as humans need to stop judging another person’s worth .. I have known people on crack ,cocain , meth and I can tell you it’s easy to stand back and look your nose down on them.
@@winniejohnson5559 He isn’t saying that. He’s saying that Reggie needs to get clean for his daughter if wants to be a proper father and be part of her life.
Love what this scene stands for hes just protecting his grandaughter at all cost for his daughter family. love that it turned out it was a happy ending.
I don't understand why Bill Burr looks defeated, Jeremiah looks smug, the reordered looks stunned etc etc after his testimony..... I thought his testimony was perfect and all but sealed his win. He was honest, calculated, accurate, passionate and correct in everything he said. It was not racist or incorrect in any way Someone please explain.
What he said was indeed honest and well-reasoned, the reason people reacted that way was because in this day and age, you're not supposed to be honest anymore, you're supposed to say the politically correct thing and tell people what they want to hear. Political correctness and racial politics are turning us into polite liars, that's the point of this scene.
@@jculver1674 That's the thing. EVERYBODY has subconscious biases so if someone says "I'm not racist" they're lying. I get the INTENT of the scene but the execution was rather clumsy.
I wouldn't even call it flawed. More human. Its not like its him alone. Its the first thing i see on any white person. They're white. And I always notice breasts. Its in my nature as a man. Its only when i take that thought too far. Or treat a man or woman differently for a certain feature will you have the right to classify me
This is one of the best movies I ever watched and I surprisingly never heard of it. Watched it on an airplane and have watched it at least 3-4 times after. This particular scene is my favorite and the most touching in the movie.
I am SO impressed with this scene as i couldn't put it better as i have tried through the years... believe me... lord knows i have tried. My business nature puts me in areas of detroit that are 80% "Reggie" and 20% "Regina and Family". Until those numbers flip racial profiling by nature will not cease. I am sure there those who read this and still insist I am racist. SO BE IT! Common sense tells us 20% of any race we can think of is F'''ed-up; and historically ALSO enslaved , persecuted, or oppressed. So to all of you haters: stop asking for the impossible when your numbers are upside down. Instead do something about it and change the world. Lead by example.... drag out the "Reggies" and humiliate them in your town square as has been done for centuries. Bear in mind the current events environment only fuels the flames you claim your trying to put out. Requesting a free pass because your black, what are you thinking? Racial profiling in any direction is still racial profiling!!
WOW ‼️ this is the first time I've seen this movie. It was sad, it was moving, it was intense. I could go on and on. This was award winning. I felt every emotion possible for one person to feel. BRAVO ‼️. I could watch it again and again ‼️💯💯💯💯👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💋🦋❤️👍✔️.
I have sent this clip to a few of my friends. I don’t know how you could word this any better. A perfect example yesterday when a friend of mine who is black introduced me to his girlfriend who happened to be white. Absolutely the first thing I saw was that she was white ... my two second response was that she had cute dimples. We continued our conversation and that was that. Skin color is so over rated.
They just couldn't stand the thought that this girl would grow up with all of the opportunities and advantages afforded her by her wealthy white grandfather. So, the miserable wretched 🦀 🦀 in the barrel reached up to drag her down to live in the $h17h_ _ _ with them. So despicable.
Really ? That’s the conclusion you got from this? If that was the case they would tried to get custody when his wife was alive. The father is a crack addict but the grandfather is an alcoholic!! It has nothing to do with race so please miss me with that bullshit!!
@@user-gx5hf2fn9j Finally!! I was looking for someone who said it!! Everybody just by passed the fact that the Alcoholic grandfather was no better then the drug addict daddy! The movie made his addiction more acceptable then the dad's addiction! There was so much that could've been touch on with this movie that wasn't.! Smh now the black family is looking like the bad family who want to drag eloise away from her rich white grandfather! Smh
But where were they from the beginning.....if the child has lived with her white grandparents all her life then that's where she should stay I don't think race has anything to do with it
@@miaqben I understand where you are coming from. But the child had a good relationship with both sides of the family. The adults can’t keep the drama out of the child’s custody case. And that was the issue. The grandfather has to heal and honestly didn’t know how to communicate well without provoking the other grandmother. Well the other grandma wasn’t a saint either tbh
Right this scene and a few others genuinely pissed me off couldn't believe how good the acting was and the fact this movie showed race relations in such a honest light instead of going the easy way and basically just sending the message "all white people bad" like most others do
"The movie uses the n-word in a couple of pivotal scenes, and not casually either, but it's impossible to congratulate the film for daring to go there when Elliott gets the chance to explain himself and launches into what sounds like the sort of half-apology, half-excuse that a White movie star might make after being caught using bigoted language in public. His assertion that most people have racist thoughts from time to time, but what matters isn't our first thought but our second and third, rings true. But putting it in the mouth of a rich White man is still a baffling strategic mistake-though not nearly as ill-advised as establishing Reggie's weak claim on custody by revealing that he doesn't know how to spell his daughter's name."
Costner in the movie explain why he used the N* word in the movie , in that scene like he did! However not expectable he did explain that “reggie” referred to himself as his daughters “street N* and Costner was still deeply and emotionally traumatized by his daughters death! It wasn’t a half apology it was him basically saying I only repeated what the low life referred to himself. It’s a disgusting word and I think nobody including black people should be using it! I feel black people use it to pretend it doesn’t hurt their feelings, a kind of way to take control of the word and have what they think is power over it , but it’s bullshit.
You know what, I typed some shit but deleted it all. I'll just say that I'm strangely dissapointed in you as a stranger, simply for not only not understanding the movie - but also being ignorant to what the issues are. There is a lot more to that "rich white man" and his feelings for his loved ones.
@@cleopatra72 when we use it , it doesn’t hurt ..it’s complicated.. you have the right to think as you wish.. we ain’t going to stop using it though.. just like people should stop calling women the b word.
@@ActualUngoliant Exactly. The original commenter clearly missed the point because he explained in detail exactly why it wasn't about race. It was about actions. About mistakes and faults. It was about wanting to protect one human being from the actions of another. Sam's character was trying to make it about race and that man shut it down because he didn't have time for it. He was there to protect his granddaughter from being affected by the actions of her father. Race was never the issue.
