one of the best shows in television history. universal world wide tv history! we are so fortunate to see this show in the US. SO deep at times and his character KNOWS how to use instincts..etc... Its a chilling but beautiful show. Love it. He is brilliant! Never gets old.

Hinterland was one of my Thanksgiving weekend binges, thanks to my sister. Wonderful character development; there was such as the police chief’s character deteriorated from a passive, torn participant to a murderer, at first still horrified by his own self. And the scenery is stunning; breathtaking hardly comes close.
Love this show and the actors. I hope there will be more. Just excellence.

The character has a dead child he feels like he's responsible for causing for crying out loud.

The magic formula, was without doubt, some very accomplished acting, and very skillful script writing.
Also the sublime Ceredigion countryside, was the cherry on the cake.
If Hinterland had been filmed in and around Cardiff, with little or no dramatic scenery, then the drama would not have been as memorable.
Without doubt S4Cs finest hour.
Richard is a cool guy.

I love this show and I count it as a real pleasure to get time to sit down and watch this show. I watch everything but the acting is at such a high level until you have to really watch--I can't conversate--I just want quiet so I can watch it and catch every word, every gesture, every nuance and savor every minute because you know it's all coming to an end. I love hot, sunny weather, but I am coming to love the kind of weather that Hinterland is filmed in because it matches the goings on in the story. They all are top notch acrors, but Mr Harris is the "T" in top notch because of how he brings DCI Tom Mathias to the screen. He brings so much substance to this role..he seemed to have internal radar on who Tom is, and we love this silently grieving constable. From the first few minutes you know something seismic has happened in his life and that he needed distance, time and space to even begin to try and wrap his head around the tragedy he has suffered. He is insular, he is so ready to focus on something else besides the shards of his personal life until he is like a heat-seeking missile to the criminal element. Richard Harris defines DCI Tom Mathias and makes him live and breathe and have his being. I have never encountered this actor before, but, based on his breathing life into Tom Mathias, he will always be on my radar. I saw him in the newest iteration of Poldark and again, even in that very staid character, he makes us instantly take notice and we want and expect more, which he COULD GIVE, but this is Poldark's show and he is not the central character, but he is bursting with "can do" even in this relatively minor role compared to DCI Tom Mathias. Want to see more of Richard Harris...who hones the craft of acting to a new level of effectiveness. I have seen all 3 Seasons and am going back to start over again when I need a fix of "problems in a cold, dreary environment" until more (I hope) seasons appear.

We only recently discovered this programme on BBC iPlayer. I honestly don't know why we watch it as it's so depressing.
