Has anyone seen "Hey guys Aaron 'Cybertron' Zheng here"? The last I heard of him he was climbing the online Series 2 VGC ladder in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and provided live commentary as he went. In the last episode he featured a team centered around Lilligant and Torkoal and I was worried about him. If anyone has any details, please let me know! 🙏
Been a while since we've had a "I got wrecked by this team and just *had* to try it out." Honestly my favorite videos on this channel other than the teams you build yourself Aaron
One of the interesting interactions for the glimmora mirror is that if mortal spin activates the opponent's toxic debris, it will still clear the toxic spikes even though they technically get set after the move is used. So if you want to poison the opposing glimmora's partner you can do so without worrying about the incoming spikes
A video from Aaron just right after watching Wolfey's is very nice coincidence I wish I can have everytime. Thank you for always providing us with informative content Aaron!
Wow, I wasn't expecting you to showcase this team in five games given... its victory condition. Looking forward to watching all of these games over the weekend! Thanks as always. QOTD: "The Pokemon is frightened," meaning that it will switch out whenever dealt damage by an attack. You could even give your own Intimidate/Fake Out user this condition to cause lots of mischief if you wanted to.
Hi Aaron!! I just want to thank you for making such great quality content. I've been watching every upload for the last 1.5 years but just started on the ranked ladder this year and got to top 100 on master ball using your pelipper and dreadnaw team!! I can't believe how much I've learned from your videos. I played a few online games as a kid and was so frustrated because I didn't understand the competitive scene and got my butt whooped. I've been having so much fun playing online now that I've gained tons more knowledge from your videos. I hope you continue to enjoy what you do and it brings you lots of happiness. :) Thank you
QOTD: Stunned Akin to Confusion where it doesn't last forever like Burn or Para. You can switch out to remove. If the pokemon is Stunned, they can't move until they are hit by an attacking move. Lasts 2 turns. Ally can remove Stunned effect.
Perhaps a variation of frostbite could be good! Could further benefit the ice typing and reduce special attack of a pokemon, so the reverse of burn as opposed to the frozen condition.
I'm glad this and special intimidate don't exist, because it keeps physical and special having different flavour - physical being more volatile, special being more consistent
Gotta say, I love that forcing an early tera with your leads to improve the matchup with your pokemon in the back is part of the strategy in this game. Probably will be sick of it by the time gen 10 comes out, but tera is by far my favorite gimmick and the most strategically interesting.
going back catching up on vids i missed. ive been having a blast with a few teams in casual doubles, just for fun really cause once the new regulation gets here im gonna be hurting without having PLA, so im trying to have as much fun now as i can. i look forward to your videos regardless if im actively climbing tho!! ty
QoTD: If they refuse to put in frostbite then I think a dark type status condition that acts like frostbite could be cool. I picked dark type specifically because special attacks are more of a mental, magic kind of attack and dark types give the feel of using trick to cause mental anguish, therefore reducing HP by 1/12 like burn and halving special attack. The same status but ghost type could be cool too as a kind of “curse” status without actually being… well… curse.
Its great to see so much variety when it comes to Vgc, I love it! Thank you for always making great content Aaron! If I made a new status, I would make one that would slowly heal the pokemon with the status, but attacks it takes would deal extra damage. Could make some nice strategies!
An interesting new condition could be 'terrified' where your speed is doubled but your offensive stats are 1/4 for 2 or 3 turns. It has enough downsides (crippling opposing sweepers, negating TR) but also can be used to your advantage (on a slow mon, blocking other status etc.), and you can have abilities (new, e.g. Fearless or existing, e.g. Steadfast) or types (Fighting types due to their discipline) that counter it
Oooh, fun QOTD!! I'd love a mental status condition that lowers the afflicted Pokemon's Special Attack. But the twist is, if they use a Special move of the same type as the current terrain, it gets a boost. Yes, it'd buff Indeedee+Armorouge even more, but it extremely restricts coverage move options, which could lead to some really creative techs. If we're creating a problem, the solution should be really imaginative and open-ended :)
Hey Aaron! Tyler here and today I'm back watching another episode of road to ranked where you climb the online vgc ladder and provide live commentary as you go.
I'll have to give this team a shot. I really like Glimmora but as a player I've struggled to utilize it properly. I also really like the Rest set on Dondozo as it's also very strong into other teams with Glimmora. QOTD: Hm... most of the bases are covered with already existing ailments. A fair amount of players I think would like a kind of Frostbite status that's like getting burned but halves damage done with Special moves instead of Physical ones. As for a more original thought from me, I present: Disease. Disease, once inflicted, gives a decrease in both offensive stats by 25%. This is the same as having both Tablets of Ruin and Vessel of Ruin effects simultaneously. Disease has a 25% chance to go away at the end of every turn. Similarly I also present Virus, which is the same as Disease but for Defensive stats.
QOTD: I would make Rust status effect, wich would decrease defense just like Burn decreases attack and it will also take 1/16th of hp every turn. The effect would be water type and water types would be immune to it. It could be introduced togather with new water move that is supereffective on steel types (because water types are strong against rock types due to existance of erosion while this would be strong because of corrosion). And i know ability Corrosion exist but it's different and must i say dissapointing (It should allow steel types to be hit by poison moves not just for Toxic or Poison Gas to be used against them). But that's a side note. Point is i think Rust effect should be related to water types because it's the water that causes rust on steel. And why defense and not sp.def? Well i would prefer sp.def to be decreased because i do like special attacking water types BUT i feel like it would be healthier for the game to make this a counterpart to burn (Say the enemy got you burned and decreased your Att but you managed to cause rust effect on them so your attack effectiveness is back to neutral against that opponent).
There are two types of people in this world: Those who have to search for the right song to play while they clean the house, and then me, who has to find the right road to ranked video to play while I clean the house. My productivity level has just sky rocketed. Also QOTD: Some kind of status condition that halves special attack. My first thought would be modify toxic to do this, but it could be cool to have something like a water based condition similar to the after effects of Blastoise's G-Max move where you get damage chip from being drenched in water while spat is halved as an opposite to burn and halved attack
QOTD: Bravery Network Online has a few cool takes on statuses, and I particularly like how they handle being trapped; you *can* still switch out, but if you do, you take I think it's 50% max HP in damage. They do a number of things like that which still inject a trade-off to certain actions but that can be played around. There's also a little early access game called Pixels which has a Mesmerize status, which is just confusion but instead of hurting yourself you give the other player a random item. I just like that because I always like thief skills in RPGs :3
QoTD: when abillities such as dazzling or queenly majesty appeared in the game I immediately thought about a 'heavy' status condition that prevents priority moves to have any effect. At least having it as a signature move side effect like thousand arrows ignoring levitate/flying type could be interesting.
QOTD: I wanted a "Cursed" status that's mainly based on Ghost types but I feel like Will-O-Wisp/Burn kinda overlaps with the concept. The bug typing needs a LOT of buffs and most of them have been used as utility in the past so a "Stung" status might help? 1/3 of damage as recoil whenever the Stung Pokemon uses a damaging move.
QOTD Answer: - Berserk: Like confusion, but it randomizes the mon's target. For example, attacking your ally instead of your opponent. - Anxious: Delayed force switch (Roar but with Yawn mechanic) - Martyr: Will take a percentage of damage that your ally would have taken (Follow Me but doesn't necessarily redirect and multi-turn)
I think a status that would block the target from using attacking moves would be interesting. It could be called “Praise” (or something) and be to Taunt what flatter is to swagger. Would be cool to use on an assault vested mon or other hyper-offensive threats
I thought of the same thing before i came down into the comments. To balance it I figured the pokemon would still have a 50% chance to attack if it is in the status. That way it doesn't totally break assault vest lol
QOTD: Borrowing from Dungeons and Dragons type of status conditions, an interesting one could be some kind of “bloodlust”, where the trainer loses control of their pokemon. Move and target would be randomized for two turns, like outrage, except your own pokemon could be targeted. Honestly sounds completely broken, but it would be interesting if they tried it.
I'm not sure what it would be called, but I think a status condition that basically added some recoil to the pokemon's moves for a few turns would be neat, maybe it would replace the confused status, because confusion just being completely useless half the time is kinda lame.
QOTD: So if taunt forces attacks, what if there was a status that forces a more defensive approach? Especially as most games are decided in 5 turns or less these days (more or less), it would be interesting to have a status akin to confusion, but that guarantees you can do a non-attacking move (protect, will-o-wisp, whatever), but lowers the chance that your pokemon will attack if wants. So 100% chance to do a non-attacking move, 50% chance to attack. Obviously this is probably broken and would turn pokemon into coin flipping :)
If I could make a new status condition, it would be “Frostbite” which you could use to lower the output of special attack damage, the same way burn is used on physical attackers.
QOTD: I was thinking about some kind of weakening condition, like "dryness" making you weaker to fire type moves because of the lack of water in your body etc
I mean for the last game, I’m not sure what value Tatsu gives the other Dondozo if they’re slow given the Unaware on both sides. Edit: Ah well you said it too. But also surprised it isn’t Chesto but Lum instead still.
With regards to the last game, I'm surprised more sets aren't featuring a Tera blast for specific coverages for teams. Also, any ideas why techs like wide guard and Eviolite aren't seeing much action? Just curious - thanks for sharing these battles, Aaron!
Hey Aaron! Would you be willing to try tera ice, body press Mudsdale in snow? I’m wanting to see how a champ might support it in the current meta. I imagine assault vest, but I’m sure you could come up with something cooler. 🥶
One layer of toxic spikes inflicts poisoned, which takes a set chunk of health every turn from the opponent. Two layers of toxic spikes inflicts badly poisoned (akin to the effect from the move toxic) which makes it so that the opponent takes an increasing amount of poison damage every turn. If you can stall, badly poisoned will ultimately ramp up to a very significant amount of damage.
@bendre Oh ok, that makes sense. Because I assumed they'd just get poisoned and that was that. But basically setting up Toxic is definitely better. Thank you
Wait, can Dondozo still Rest when poisoned? Because doesn't it have to fall asleep for Rest to work? And you can't be asleep and poisoned at the same time right? I'm so confused
Why did Baxcalibur outspeed Glimmora the first turn but then Glimmora outsped bax the second turn in game 2? If they're both max speed Bax should be faster with it not being a speed tie unless I'm missing something...

Glimmora is such a cool Pokémon, one of my favorites of this region honestly. Great video and strategy, new subscriber here!!
Pretty interesting team! Seeing Maushold used besides pop bomb is awesome + Glimora doing some work!
Man, these videos are like comfort food. I love what you're doing :)
Maushold is one of my favorites this gen too. I love how many different ways that little family can viably play
QOTD: Stunned

QOTD: I was thinking about some kind of weakening condition, like "dryness" making you weaker to fire type moves because of the lack of water in your body etc
Fear or brain freeze
Brain freeze - ice type special burn
Fear target can’t use attacking moves consecutively eg attack - status - attack - swap
