A little tip that some of you might find helpful when it comes to matching yarns... I've often been asked to repair people's knitting or crocheted shawls, blankets etc and, of course, matching yarn is no longer available because these things are usually decades old. I find I get the best match using a good quality tapestry wool that has been "stranded" so you can use differing numbers of plies to make up the thickness. I've even blended strands of different shades to get as close the matching colour as I can. It works surprisingly well in letting you find a match. It's best, of course, if you take the item to be mended to a real-life hold-them-up-against-each-other brick-and-mortar store. :-)
@@scootermom1791 HI Scootermom - no, I haven't done any videos. I don't think I could do a job any better than this person anyway but I notice between this and another channel that has similar content they don't go into much detail about how/where to get the matching yarn. So I thought it wouldn't hurt to mention some ideas that have helped me just in case they help other people too.
@@meganmills6545 I sure wish you would make a video showing this process. But, I totally understand why you don't. I typically am one who suggests videos to people because I'm not good with a camera myself. And, though I used to be good with editing film and sound, I'm not anymore. Software has changed a lot since the time I used it. Plus, I honestly have zero interest in doing anything like that anymore. Anyway, I'm glad you provided this information, since it can be difficult to match yarn... especially if it's no longer manufactured.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for subscribing to my channel! I'm thrilled to hear that you love what I do. Your support means a lot to me and I'll continue to do my best to provide valuable content for you. Thanks again!
Its incredible how the hole is basically rebuilt. What I don't understand is why the thread is not tied off. If its pulled/stretched, won't it just unravel? You should explain this in the video because no doubt its something a lot of people will wonder about. Everything else is easy to understand and makes a lot of sense. This really is an art form, working with delicate sweaters.
When knitting and changing yarns at the end of a ball, or when repairing, you don't "tie off" or tie knots. You weave in ends, and this is what she is doing.
Thank-you for the video, but it appears that a whole chunk of instructions is missing from repairing the sweater. The bunch of loops on one side of the repair, what did you do with them?
Most of the wool you mentioned will be cut off, and only a small part will be darned into the clothes. Please forgive me for my unprofessional video editing skills.
@@LittleStarCC Please do not apologize. Except for that part, it is a very good video. I can not criticize, because I have never made a video. I really appreciate you showing me how to do that!
I don't think what I said before is detailed enough. Let me be more specific. I will also release a video to explain it. The extra wool on the left is reserved, and it is needed to darn the hole. Usually, the reserved length of wool is three times the size of the hole. After the hole is mended, if the reserved wool is not used up, you need to hook the wool into the back of the sweater with a crochet, and then weave it into the sweater along the lines of the sweater. If the reserved yarn is too long, you can cut it off.
Благодарю огромное! Знала, что таким крючком поднимают петли, но что бы так ловко заделать дырку, это мастерство. Возьму себе на заметку. Благодаря вам я расширила свои навыки по шитью.
I have a question. Please can you explain how you judge what length of yarn to leave on the left hand side? An d how do you correct the situation if you have left too much or too little? Many thanks for such a helpful film.

Was ist das für eine Häkelnadel? What is it for a hook that you use? Thank you, very good video!! I have a crochet hook 1.0mm bus it's not so good fot the purpose.
@@LittleStarCC I’ve never heard it called that before. When I bought mine years ago, it was called a Knit Picker, and it was marketed as a way to fix snags in sweaters. That was way before the Internet though, so they couldn’t have put up clever videos to show how many ways to use it. Your technique is genius! Can’t wait to try it. 😍
I find it much easier to use a steel crochet hook (lace making etc) to "pick up the ladder" in a pullover likecthis than a latch hook. I find the latch just gets in the way all the time.
