  • My favorite part from The Magic Flute, this time the film version by Kenneth Branagh (2006), in a WWI context! Tamino is looking for Pamina and Papageno-who are about to be ambushed by Monostatos. The Magic Glockenspiel saves the day.
    Music by W.A. Mozart (1791)
Original libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder (1791).
    Movie direction Kenneth Branagh (2006).
English adaptation of the libretto by Stephen Fry (in a WW1 context!)
    Music direction by James Conlon.
    Tamino..............Joseph Kaiser
    Pamina..............Amy Carson
    Papageno..........Benjamin J. Davis
    Monostatos........Tom Randle

hnming Interestingly, Mozart was mentioned in the lyrics of "I Got a Dream" when the pianist (Hook Hand Thug) sung "Can't you see me on the stage, performing Mozart?"

Mozart would not have cared about the language and neither should you. This is only about the music!

+H. Roider In my opinion, the language is part of the work.

It's public domain. Get over it.

Of course it is always better in the original language, there is a lot lost in traslation.
However, a lot of people who's not good at german will appreciate a traslation anyway.
In any case, this particular remake is not too faithful to the original one, given the changes in the playbook and the new context (WWI)

Well i ment it in general, not some parts of translation, but the all translation. I meen that thing, that someone translated it in english, is horrible. Much better is, I believe, to watch orginal with subtitles.
