- Meet The First African American Fighter Pilot And Veteran Of Two World Wars | Eugene Jacques Bullard
The unsung hero of the Lafayette Flying Corps, a subject of the hit miniseries, was the first black American fighter pilot, Eugene Bullard, known as the "black swallow of death" for his courage during missions. Although Bullard was the world's first Black combat aviator, flying in French squadrons during World War, official tributes focus on the military exploits of the "Black Swallow of Death," they tend to gloss over his pioneering anti-racist struggle. However, who was this Jim Crow refugee and staunch activist from the cotton fields of Georgia to Roaring Twenties Paris and the civil rights movement in Harlem? join us to unveil The first African American fighter pilot and veteran of two world wars; Eugene Jacques Bullard.

Respect!!!
Got a really warm feeling watching this, considering the final recognition in the USA.
I’m black and I’m retired Army veteran and I’m retired veteran of the D.O.C community yes I’m proud of my accomplishments a sharecropper son old school hard times Mississippi
He is still remembered by us in the Légion. In fact we always consider ourselves as the creators of the Lafayette squadron. 😊
Outstanding!!!
I've always sought out books and documentary videos about Black Americans' accomplishments in political and military service to this country of ours. This was never taught to me in Texas schools. Our black Americans contributed greatly to building our Republic. I'm a 30-year retired Marine. We Marines didn't see race within our ranks. In Iraq 2005-2006 I had my brother's back he had mine. I'm sick of these race hustlers trying to American brothers/sisters against each other.
I first learned about him in the movie Fly Boys. Watched from Old Harbour Jamaica 🇯🇲.
Did you not watch the whole video??? It said that during WWII he worked under cover listening to conversations in his club and giving that information to french intelligence.
Salute
Respect
WWI is One Not Two World Wars. Heaven is for Heroes, May He R.I.P.
An unsung hero in military aviation.
Bravo. Toof bad race is the most important issue in America. The US could have used him in both wars. My mom felt appreciated in Europe with the 6888th postal battalion than in the USA.
Salute!!!
Wrong Georgia
He should have stayed in france where he was appreciated. Going back to the US was a waste of time.
So true- France he was a hero…
America, he was an elevator operator.
Black Americans but fly with French not with other American fly ???
He's denied reparations to this very day!!!
Watched a documentary on the Red Tails, German pilots said they had to go after bomber squadrons but if they have had half a chance they would have ran the Red Tails into the ground 😅
These "first" Black This or That or the so-called youngest Black This or That really means very little.
Guess Why!?
Why?
Please tell me. Willing to learn
@@BlackElevation00 Same here.
Had he stayed in the National Socialist divided states of America, there's no way he would have become a flyboy.
Bullard was a true hero.
Oh princess hush
Your insecurties are showing!
