It’s not all that fancy tracking stuff, but I want to have a list of all the books I want to read to fill it out on the rest of the journal, inspirational quotes between pages from authors or famous people, my star rating, quotes from each book etc. No one will read this but I’m going to give an update on how I do for the sake of myself 😂
For anyone who uses of is thinking of geting the Pilot Frixon Markers: They erase with heat! So you ca just . . . Blowdry or Iron your book if you want to remore all your annotations. I use this when I have to annotate a book from my collection for a Literature Class and I may not want my notes when I'm done.

Finally a reading journal that is actually a reading journal. No offense to other creators, but there's a lot of people posting bullet journals with "bookish" spreads and calling it a reading journal. Let's call a spade, a spade here 🤷🏽♀️
Anyone else noticed that she is starting to get an Australian accent on certain words 😂 Edit: the amount of people telling me she's Dutch 🤦♀️ I know she's Dutch. Just that I'm hearing Aussie twists on her words, not a bad thing at all, just an observation 😊
I was thinking about this while watching the last video of hers but I didn't see anyone else comment about it so I thought I was just hearing things....
I think the reading journal is a great idea but I feel that it's too much commitment, for my reading experience personally. But I like the sticky tabs a lot! I love your videos! You're my discovery of 2021 and I like that :)
I’ve been keeping notes during my reading process since last year and it works really well!! It’s wonderful to look back at your thoughts and with fantasy books it’s so nice to write down big plot points/how the magic system or world works so that you can reread it once the sequel comes out 😄
Such an elaborate system 🙈 I have a reading journal since this year, so 2 weeks basically. The idea is to write reviews of each book in there (around 1 page per book). I did try tabbing my books but in the end I went completely wild and tabbed every other page... I used a complete pack of tabs on one book. It was clearly not the system for me haha.
I did the same thing. Well first I underlined things, for example my Percy Jackson book every other words is literally underlined and I can’t read that copy anymore it’s so annoying lol! But then I started with sticky-notes and my The Darkest Minds book is just full of sticky notes like every other sentence hahah
I love annotating!! I usually just write/underline directly in my book and use sticky tabs to mark that page. Your reading journal seems so useful and so cute😍 you are definitely inspiring me to start one for 2021 too!!
My tabbing system (very subjective system so not really reliable lmao) Pink- romance scenes that make me go 👀 Yellow- scenes that are funny Blue- important plot things Orange- beautiful writing, quotes Green- quotes or scenes that make me go period sis😩
I LOVE your journal. It’s basic in the most beautiful and functional way, to the point, nothing intimidating or high maintenance. Thank you for helping me finally just get started on mine!
Something that I started this month is summarising every chapter while reading. My English teacher probably wouldn't approve of the way they are written, but so far it really helps me to understand what's going on. Another thing that I do with quotes is that I take a picture of that quote and draw a line next to the paragraph of said quote. Later, I want to write them down with the chapter they are from.
here’s how i tab: pink- romance moments/ cute lovey moments blue- sad upsetting moments purple- important for character development/ something that defines a character green- scene or moment that made me smile orange- quotes/sayings or just pieces of the book i liked
Personally, for me, what I do id the following: keep in mind I primarily read books online (lol I can’t afford buying all these books every year, and there’s no local library where I live) 1. No annotations. thoughts + review in my book journal after I finish reading the entire book. 2. Add a few highlights, randomly, perhaps writing a thought that I feel I won’t remember, or a quote that I would add with my review in my journal later 3. Full on annotations - I would add highlights and note with those highlights (this option on Apple Books where u can highlight and if u click that highlight and click note then u can add a note speaking abt that particular highlight). In these, I tend to use a color coded system. It goes- Pink: romance/somethign cute Green: plot point or general thoughts Blue: something funny Purple: quotes/lines I love Yellow: anything else (I have a limited selection of colors so this is what I stick with) Many times, I read a book once, and I turn the few highlights form that point to yellow and then reserve yellow for those old ones and annotate with the remaining colors (same meaning tho) To recall: I do this only with digital copies, with physical ones, I have not yet had to courage to fully annotate, though I have been thinking about tagging one for a while (I haven’t done it yet cuz I want to do it for a really good book but idk which one to do atm so I’m waiting to find somethign that just hits)

It seems a lot but I think a redundant system is better than a single system of annotations! If you ever lose the book, if notion for some reason stops existing, you'll always have the journal and vice-versa :) I use the tabs system and have been wanting to try a reading journal! Loved this video 💖
Oh Leonie, how did you know that I needed this video?😍 I started a reading journal in september but never use it, because I put so much pressure on me that the thoughts I write down need to be super important. So I open the journal, look at the empty page for about 10 minutes, and then close it, not even going back to reading!
How I tab - Based on what each color means -Orange: Something that made me have mixed emotions -Yellow: Something that made me happy/excited -Green: A character just died -Blue: Something that made me cry -Purple: A quote I like/could help me in the future -Pink: Something relatable -Also I get my tabs from Etsy and Amazon-
I personally think that the three way system of annotating would be beneficial as the journal is a brief overview of your thoughts on all the books you read and if you want more in depth, you could then refer to the other methods.
11:50 personal impact after reading man's search for meaning: "You always have a choice facing whatever comes at you. My problems are very small compared to what people in WWII experienced". A considerate, thoughtful and candid note.
It's very interesting that she thinks of it that way, because Frankl doesn't want to tell anyone that their problems are less important than others, he talks about the freedom that you always have to change your attitude when you experience the Tragic Triad - guilt, suffering or death - and his experience its very accurate with his thoughts and thesis.
@@brbaramoreira interesting. I didn't quite agree with Leonie saying that either. No need to compare tragedies or its "importance". I don't mean to put words in her mouth but I think it's just a way to say "things can always be worse so don't worry". It also says "if Frankl's method works for ss prisoners, it'd work for anybody". A book like this is bound to overwhelm the readers with insights, along with many ways to express them.
Its so easyy. I use these kinda tabs instead of bookmarks. And when i read beautiful sentences or things that made me excited i just put tabs in 1 sec and i move on quickly
This reminds me of my previous corpo job, where we were forced to track the same thing in 4 different trackers. I use Notion to collect my thoughts and if I like a passage from a book, I take a pic with my phone directly through notion app.
This inspires me to start tabbing my copy of “The diary of a young girl”. So far yellow is reference/info and orange is new person … I’m thinking pink for funny moments, blue for moments I like and green for upsetting moments but we’ll see
Practically my tabs vary from book to book but rn I’m tabbing Norwegian wood by haruki murakami My tabs : Yellow : Quotes I like Pink : Symbolism + Imagery Green : Environment Blue : Sad Orange : Plot twists
Only watching it now, but there’s one thing I do in order not to forget my tabs, specially when I have just started reading and am not sure if I’d like to annotate or not. I pick one or 2 colored tabs and glue the hole thing on the cover, and that’s it; super complex, jk! Hahaha awesome tips! 🥰
With you so far--the reading journal will be newly in the back of my BuJo (thanks for that idea!), and I do sticky tabs for SOME books, and they change meaning--it's just for reminders to Future Me too 😍🤩
I saw someone else do this for their tabbing system. (EDIT: Oh wait, you did it too (or planned to) haha. Guess I should have finished the video.) They put a "Legend" or "Key" at the start of the book. Like pink means funny, green means beautiful writing, etc. It looked like a good idea, especially for those who use different colors for different books.
I've recently started annotating book, but I've also had to adjust the system book by book. For tabbing, I try to limit myself to 3 or 4 colors tops per book and I pick the color based on what I have available. But since I borrow so many books from the library, I put sticky notes every 50-100 pages and then I write myself updates as I reach each one (which then helps for writing reviews). I'm still trying to figure out ebooks and notes on my phone, but it's a work in progress.
I've never really annotated. I write a short review for every book I read, that's it... But I've recently joined a book club and I realised that I need a system to remember the pages that I want to talk about, so I'm gonna try just marking with a highlighter 😅
I've literally been checking out annotation videos on RUclips because I wanted to start annotating my books this year. I love your videos and I'm so glad you made one about your system as well ☺️

I am curious what would your textbook annotations / lecture notes look like? Your reading journals are pretty and practical. But how about your study note books? What did you look like in another part of your “reading”?
Blue quote of just like something I could learn from Purple foreshadowing of important piece of the story I’ll probably forget Green parts I missed reading the first time Pink relationship changing or forming Grey random writing
I started a reading journal type thing but online, I use google slides and add in the book cover and just go over the book and then i have a page where i give my ending thoughts and critics.
Very helpful video, I was wondering if there's sth I can or should do while reading more than highlighting. Also, I love how this eyeshadow color compliments your eyes and hair color and I also love the line art earring💓
You kinda use Notion how I use my reading journal this year. I'm trying to take more detailed notes to let me do more honest and thoughtful reviews but also so that I can actually recall what the heck the book was about, especially if I'm reading a series over months or years.
"Minder goed dan Brave New World & 1984" haha. I am Danish, but I love the transparency of the written Dutch. Spoken Dutch is impossible to understand though.
I remember you said you wanted to read Shakespeare but found it to be difficult/ daunting in one of your vlogs. Have you tried reading No Fear Shakespeare? They’re books created by Sparknotes using the original text side by side with the modern-day english translation of his plays and sonnets. I appreciate the play more since the book has notes and explanations along with the translations.
I love these how-to videos because even if you don’t want to replicate the exact setup you get lots of ideas you can incorporate into your own system. A question regarding Notion, did you set up from scratch book annotation section or does Notion provide a template to help you get going? Thank you!
How I annotate: blue - something sad happened pink - a sweet scene where the characters connect with each other, romantically or platonically green - EW WTF??? orange - this made me laugh yellow - character information purple - any quotes i like
I don’t think your system is convoluted at all, I think different books just need different ways of thinking about and working with them, so it’s great that you’re flexible with your annotating system. Personally, I use a mix of tabbing and writing in my books and taking notes in my reading journal.
This might be a little late of an advice but it might be better to stick them on the upper side of the pages so that they don't get in the way when flipping the pages as you re-read the books
heres my sticky tab system :)
pink - any beautiful writing I can get inspired by
orange - scenes that make me angry or annoyed
yellow - scenes that warm my heart
green - fun facts in the book that would be fun to know
blue - relatable lines - where i see myself in certain characters
dark blue - scenes that make me sad or cry
purple - shocking parts
I love this system!
I WILL be taking some of these categories thankyouverymuch (💙)

I hope this isn’t too invasive but would you ever consider doing a notion tour? Or one of those “how I organize my life with notion” videos?
I've been getting more into annotating lately! loved this video 💛
I use just one colour for one book. And i usually coordinate it with the cover so that it doesn't ruin the beauty of the book😂
Soon to be guilty of this, when my sticky tabs come in the post tomorrow 😂
I started a reading journal type thing but online, I use google slides and add in the book cover and just go over the book and then i have a page where i give my ending thoughts and critics.
sometimes i just use my tabsheet as a bookmark so i don't have to look for it if i want to mark something
omg i like your accent so much! it's cutely smooth
I also assign different meanings to the colors for different books! Every fiction book I annotate gets an index in the front w what each color means.
this was really cool! i really need to get on notion 😮 i use my notes app on my phone for everything and it’s a bit of a dumpster 😅
Love this. Starting my first reading journal this year.
This was such perfect timing!!!! 😍🍄❤️ as I want to start my own reading journal!
Love love love the reading journal idea!!
Very helpful video, I was wondering if there's sth I can or should do while reading more than highlighting. Also, I love how this eyeshadow color compliments your eyes and hair color and I also love the line art earring💓
I am addicted to my iPad, you can highlight in colours ; make comments' underline and more!
You kinda use Notion how I use my reading journal this year. I'm trying to take more detailed notes to let me do more honest and thoughtful reviews but also so that I can actually recall what the heck the book was about, especially if I'm reading a series over months or years.
Off topic but I LOVE YOUR VIBE SO MUCH ❤
I really need this!! Thank you so much! Love your vids!! 💕
Damn. Never thought I'd ever find someone with the same handwriting as me. 😂 This video is very helpful. Tysm!
Can you make a video where you go more in-depth with how you make your setup in notion? Thank you
You have made me try Notion!😄❤
Loved this video!!! Got really inspired to do more book related bullet journal spreads!!:)
Wow your handwriting is beautiful
"Minder goed dan Brave New World & 1984" haha. I am Danish, but I love the transparency of the written Dutch. Spoken Dutch is impossible to understand though.
I find it helpful to just stick a chunk of the sticky tabs in the front cover of my book so I don’t have to carry all of the tabs and they are handy.
This is such an aesthetic and helpful video, thanks
You should do an video explaining how to use Notion. I loved how your's is but when I tried to do one it kind of just looked messy.
Love your look in this video!
I loooooove this eye look on you!!!!
I love these how-to videos because even if you don’t want to replicate the exact setup you get lots of ideas you can incorporate into your own system. A question regarding Notion, did you set up from scratch book annotation section or does Notion provide a template to help you get going? Thank you!
Oh I see that maybe indify is the answer to the Notion question?
Thanks for this video was looking for this 💖📚
Great, thanks to this vidéo, just bought myself sticky notes that i will (probably) never use.
Aahhh Fahrenheit 451 is my favourite book!
Thank you!🥺😍
Thank you, Leonie. I always enjoy your videos. :)
Very well done, and very detailed
Thank you so much.. This helped me a lot
How I annotate:
blue - something sad happened
pink - a sweet scene where the characters connect with each other, romantically or platonically
green - EW WTF???
orange - this made me laugh
yellow - character information
purple - any quotes i like
Great thanks very useful information ℹ️
I like to use my sticky notes as a bookmark and this way I don't worry about forgetting or losing them, and I don't worry about what bookmark to use 🤣
I love how you're getting an australian accent
I don’t think your system is convoluted at all, I think different books just need different ways of thinking about and working with them, so it’s great that you’re flexible with your annotating system. Personally, I use a mix of tabbing and writing in my books and taking notes in my reading journal.
This might be a little late of an advice but it might be better to stick them on the upper side of the pages so that they don't get in the way when flipping the pages as you re-read the books
Oh, I noticed you put them in the specific line. Well, each technic has its pros and cons
i have a great questions: why do you read novels or books? whats the ulterior motive and how they help you?
