@@alexandraroselyn That’s awesome Lexi and I recently finished Belladonna over this week and I Absolutely Loved It I hope you decide to read it in your vlog cause it was SOOOO GOOD!! You Are Going To Love It!! 📖😊

@@Netty_Noo I'd actually go watch my time stamp of this! There are a lot of conflicting sources but the author pronounces it the way I do, Babel vs Baybel. I think though she picked this word on purpose- it's a book about language and the title literally strikes up debate on how to pronounce it! Genius! 😊❤

If you have any parenting advice based on how they raised you and how you guys have remained so close that would be amazing! They are my parenting goals haha.

Definitely spoiling us with this long video. Loved it! I'm reading Hotel Magnifique during the readathon. I went to Barnes and Noble and decided to get a blind book date for the first time. It turned out to be Strange the Dreamer. I started it during the reading sprints and am enjoying it so far. Looking forward to the readathon ❤
Autumn Squash soup is the BEST! I wish it was year round honestly.... I was so devastated by Babel. I think Robin also represents when you don't understand someone's mental health, you cheer them on to try to make them see better things, but for them, they just can't. Which is heartbreaking because you see Victoire try... plus the repercussions of dragging people down with him. At least I know what to expect when I try the Poppy War now...

I can't wait to read These Fleeting Shadows! I'm actually reading Mexican Gothic right now and I'm getting that feeling you described, where you read a sentence and you have to stop and look up and process what you just read because it was so good!! Also for the Babel discourse: Babel with a short A (like apple) is the US pronunciation, and Babel with a long A (like rake) is the UK pronunciation. It's entirely based on where you're from!

this was such a fun and cozy reading vlog 🧡 I really want to read Babel. As someone who loves languages, I feel like this is something I would really enjoy! also, side note, but those rice krispie treats look SO YUMMY!
Thank you!! And I think you should try it- especially if you love languages! I think in a lot of ways the book is a love letter to language and the act of translation! 😊❤
Love your vlogs. You always make want to read more. I just finished belladonna and it is amazing. It’s really good. In my opinion it is a little slow in the beginning but overall it’s really great. I have to read these fleeting shadows now. Also, I just recently bought if we were villains. Hoping to read it soon. Hopefully, i like it. I know it does worrying shakespear and theatre and I’m not really a theater person. However, I have heard great things.
BABEL SPOILER: I actually don’t think Robin was much of a villain towards the end. I don’t think the blame fell on Robin. Ample time/warning was given before the bridge specifically fell and the leaders chose not to act on it. And the citizens ALSO had warning, so why they chose to still use the bridge that day I absolutely cannot understand. So ultimately I think the blame fully falls on the leaders in the country. They should have blocked off the bridge access also. 🤷🏻♀️ Robin told them exactly what was going to happen and when and they didn’t take him seriously and that’s on THEM.
Yeah I think ultimately the villain here were the corrupt leaders who were willing to sacrifice everyone for their own greed. And I think RF Kuang did such a great job at showing how morally difficult making these decisions was, having the characters know the outcome that would happen but still not folding for the sake of the greater good. It was so well written. And honestly such a great book for book discussion too this would be an excellent book club pick! But now I need to know, what did you rate it 👀 (I gave it a 4.5 it was amazinggg).
I totally agree with you!! Also, I feel like the ending was perfect, with Robin choosing to sacrifice himself and die in Babel. In the last few chapters you can really feel him getting exhausted by life and it sounded and felt kind of like a depression at the end. He just didn’t have the strength to survive anymore. Even though his character developed so much throughout the book, I felt like him giving in was like him going back to the part of him that didn’t change, that is at the core of who Robin is, and that resurfaced when he was broken down and exhausted. It felt like the obvious (not a negative or expected kind) and only way. Him choosing the ‘easy way out’ kind of felt like mercy for all the pain and suffering he had been through. Plus R.F. Kuang captured Robins last scene in the most beautiful, peaceful and respectful way. I’m not sure how the story would have ended with Robin surviving with Victoire and if it would’ve given me the same feeling of completeness. For instance: would the tower have fallen? What impact would their efforts have had on the British empire and the war? So many questions! :)
Hi ! I am French, I already read a little in English. Do you have any book recommendations where the level it's not too difficult? Thanks ! I love ur vlog 🥰
ok about babel i didn't read the book but babel is a city in iraq and there is a popular mythical story about the babel tower and languages that you mentioned (it's inspired by the city and some Iraqi myth) so anyway as arabic person let me tell you that the pronunciation of it is really close to what the author said 👍ant btw i loved the vlog so much💛
oooh i just finished "these fleeting shadows" it was pretty good. not my favorite but, entertaining. i felt that things werent explained that well, i didnt understand some of the magic. but i was satisfied with the ending. i felt that the characters werent fully fleshed out, or the connection with the house itself fully explored. im really excited to read babel, but i havent read the poppy trilogy and i kinda want to wait to read her work in order, might not be able to resist the hype))) and i love your pumpkin mug!!
I pronounce it 'Baybel' because I'm not American. 'Babble' sounds weird to my ears lol but it's not a big deal at all to me how someone pronounces something. If anything, the title is fitting for what the book is about, so that's pretty cool :) I plan on reading it this month. But thanks to your vlog, I have a whole heap of other books to add to my TBR. Every single time lol. Loved this vlog - it was heaps of fun :)
I think Babel is just a linguistics thing like you said. No real "correct" way just differences. Pronounced differently in British English versus American English. Mainly slightly different due to how each of the languages was constructed and the history of where we pull some of our root words from. Different emphases on some of the sounds as most of the British words stem from German and French whereas most American words have several different languages we base some words on due to the "melting pot" of cultures, slang, colloquialisms, and languages in the country. Additionally, Americans made a choice to pronounce and spell some things differently to make themselves different from England during and after the fight for independence (see the creation of Webster's American dictionary). - Haven't read the book yet but I think the author's choice of the title was a great way to have people talking about language and the book even more. A great way to play on some of the topics brought forward in the book.
Yes I totally agree!! And someone else also pointed out that the title was actually a really clever way to bring in the discussion of language because we all pronounce that word differently too and I didn't even think of that! But you're right that must have been the intention I love that. Thank you for sharing your thoughts :)

Where do you get your rings?
I just finished Not the Witch You Wed. Such a spicy witch story. This morning I just started Cackle by Rachel Harrison and I’m 60 pages in and I’m hooked. 🧙🏻♀️
What annotating key did you use for Babel?
The new Mooncakes book is the collectors edition of the original book, not a sequel unfortunately 😢 there needs to be a sequel though!
Have you read keeper of enchanted rooms by charlie N. Holmberg?
Jewelry collection video please. Your aesthetic it’s so dope. Also… are u latina?
This is hilarious because I went through this exact through journey when reading and listening to Babel. Still don't know how to pronounce it!
And yes! Dreamlight Valley has taken over my life.
I went to a Babel event with the author and she said “you can pronounce the title however you want it doesn’t really matter” so it’s all good. 😂
Yey new vid! 🥰♥️
😊❤❤❤
I think that all of Alice Kate Marshall’s books connect! Read These Fleeting Shadows, Rules for Vanishing and Our Last Echos. They all take place in the same world!
