The road to sobriety isn't easy! I struggled to get clean for years! But I can say that after YEARS of hard drinking, I'll be 8 months alcohol free the first week of August! :D
I’m right there with ya. Had one hell of a bad drunk the day after Christmas 2019. Been sober (minus one beer with an old Marine buddy) since then and have poured all extra Time/energy into learning guitar with my son. Best of luck to you going forward!!
Good for you stay srong.
How did u do it? Thanks Dawn
Iv been past my first year July 15 and I'm never going back to drinking
We!l done my man! Stay strong!
i stopped watching videos about Corey Taylor's neck for this,,
His neck should have it's own fan page.
@@anshumaanpurohit6707 OMG LET'S DO IT!!!
@@gabrielpiscopo3916 You guys will just get a bunch of haters from Corpsegrinder's neck's fan page.
That's blasphemy
Currently trying to stay sober myself. It’s tough
Alocohol is easy you start to fear the hangover but weed oh man. everyday puffpuff
Good luck 🖤
Hang in there. You can do it.
Five years sober from hard drugs today and four months from alcohol.
@@garrettchristian1439 Great job man! Stay strong. Kicking the bottle tomorrow hopefully.
Even if Hetfield's alcoholism as been on and off, he was one if not the first rock star to admit his problem in public and talk about it. He's the one who stillls to this day continues to inspire people to get sober.
Musicians who went sober
*james hetfield has entered the chat*
... And stayed sober
*james hetfield has left the chat*
My thoughts exactly
These things happen to lot of alcoholics and junkies.
Aw that’s not nice
Sad but true
@@Lebowski333 relax it's a joke buddy... No need to be st. Angry ;)
rockstars...
Glad they left that addiction so they can stay on Earth for longer
🤘🏼🤘🏼
They are still addicts but they are sober..
Yes I am too!!!
David Ellefson, Duff McKagon, angus Young, and all of Aerosmith should be on part 2.
And Dave Mustaine
@@landspeed77 Mustaine had numerous drug relapses and (I think) remains a moderate drinker. He owns his own winery.
Angus Young wasn't on drugs
@@fotiskaiser True that but he drank like a fish for a long time and I gather he's been sober for decades now. He just doesn't talk about it much.
@@christophermerlot3366 angus drank? I never heard that do you have any links
Hetfield deserves at least an honourable mention, the dude's trying hard.
Yeah he really is he’s getting there slowly but he will
just good for him that he got heloo again atleast, i think there are some who wouldnt give it another try, that would think ''well fuck it i wont go through it again i'll just stay an alcoholic''
It’s not easy to kick any addiction.
@@speed6725 Amen to that. My dad got clean for a brief time in the 80s before my asshat of an uncle pushed him off the wagon, and that's just the tip of the iceberg of douchebaggery out of him! I swear I'll punch him in the throat if I ever see him again. >:(
Man Corey Taylor is such a sweet a kind man. He has such powerful music but when he speaks he’s calm, quiet and just poetic. I teared up a little bit
I'm kind of astounded how the surviving members of Pantera and Alice in Chains aren't at least somewhat included here. People thought Philip Anselmo would be the first of the four to die because of his massive addiction issues, and then he turned out to survive *both* Abbott brothers.
In Dime's defense, he didn't ask for what he got. :(
nephyril agreed. No one deserved that death but *especially* not Dimebag :(
If Dime had been drinking like he used to for the last years, he might have as well heart issues, like Vinnie had.
@TACO Rex had acute pancreatitis though recently (I think within the last year or so) ... I think that set him straight. That can almost easily kill you if you're not fast enough to the hospital.
audiomack.com/jahface/album/emotions-on-wheels-1
Anthony Kiedis. Going on to 20 years sober soon. Surprised he’s even alive at this point. Give Scar Tissue a read if you haven’t yo
John Frusciante wasn’t even mentioned either which surprised me
Your wrong. Do more research & re-read book. He has had a few dark relapses since writing & releasing his book. He's been clean straight for about 5 yrs now, like me, but definitely not pushing 20.
@@melissamissingchriscornell2513 Yup.
Hey there Bob, today was literally the 1st day for me after the on/off merry go round.
Comes a point when it has cost and threatens to cost you too much. Being famous, rich or not makes no difference.
Either you see what matters is close to being lost forever or not.
I decide not to dig and bury myself an early grave.
Flea also said he has been sober for around 30 years
Been off of booze for 6 years and it was the best decision I've ever made. The destruction I caused will always be with me but that guilt is part of what made me successful.
Good for you man, I can't imagine that was easy. I'm glad your doing better and I'm sure you feel better too.
im so happy for slash
@ginaintegrityseeker Because Perla is a ball busting control freak. Yes, that helped him get better, and was what he needed at the time, but I'm guessing, at some point, he wanted his voice back. Some people do well with a domineering spouse who calls all the shots. Hell, some NEED it. Others don't do nearly as well.
I think the pace maker Slash had put in somewhere around what? 38 yrs old? That probably played a role...just a guess.
I'm a binge drinker but can relate to how slash said it was about killing time.
Slash is not only sober he's one of the classiest, friendliest dudes in the music business... pretty much the opposite of Axl Rose
@@tvbnine793 Axl is actually super friendly too if you watch him in interviews, don’t base tour opinion of him on his on stage antics. He’s a good guy who just had struggles back in the day but he’s fine now. In fact I’ve seen more videos of Axl being friendly with fans in the street than I have with slash
Can we just talk about Ace Frehley, the famous and very talented guitarist of Kiss who got sober after accidents and stayed sober too ?
Even if he was extremely talented, beautiful and stylish, he was a real alcohol and drugs addict.
Ace was drunk or high all the time on almost ALL the old videos from Kiss, and today, this man is very sober since more than ten years.
Ace is awesome. I still play the 78 solo often. I can relate to snowblind, ozone and wiped out more than I'd like to admit.
I'm surprised that you missed Jonathan Davis... He's been sober since 1998.
or Brian "Head" Welch
@@Awood2207 Since 2005 for him.
Jon busted a few times and was drinking around the time "See you on the other side" was released but obviously he quit sometime after that
Or the entire band.
Good food... Place Rocks!
Nikki Sixx despite being a massive rockstar is a down to earth, sweet heart of a guy. Met him 4 years ago. Glad he’s still with us
Thank God Nikki is still alive! I wasn’t around when Motley Crue was really big but I can’t live without Nik. Thank you man for taking care of yourself.
Surprised to not see Jerry Cantrell. He’s even talked about it many times.
I'm super happy for Slash. I met him a few years ago at a book signing. You want to talk about the coolest, nicest guy. I'm happy he's kept up with his sobriety and is still around kicking ass 🙌🙌🙌
Sadly, James Hetfield won't be on this list.
He is. He just used it as an excuse to not tour Australia and New Zealand
@@laynevlogz4922
Hahaha that's calling in sick for a rockstar, "send me home I'm drunk!"
Apple Pop big sad
@@laynevlogz4922 What's wrong with touring Australia and New Zealand?
@@abrarbw they have big scary spiders =(
I think Aerosmith has some members that deserves a spot on this list
With albums titles like Draw The Line and Done With Mirrors, who knew?
And what about The Rolling Stones, lol?
@@JohnnyMegabyteCanada they restarted
I’m 16 months sober and it’s just a good feeling waking up without wondering what happened. Also just waking walking around not thinking about where your next drink is coming from.
I'm so happy they left the habit before they left the world
That's deep
It's just my second day getting sober, and I had a lot of relapse, but I will do my best to stay sober as much as possible.
This inspires me to keep my sobriety going.
Alice has been sober as long as I've been alive... Exactly. Over 4 years myself. I know just what he's talking about too.
Much respect to Alice Cooper, and to you, of course.
Strange to see Elton is in this list consider this is a metal site. Long live Elton!
Yeah but the video is called Rock stars.
Did you see the title of the video?
Who do you reckon would win in a fight Elton John or Rod Stewart?
Anthony Kiedis been sober since 2000 and still going strong!
"I quit drinking Jack and Coke. It`s not healthy. I switched to Woka orange."
Lemmy Kilmister
Nikki Sixx is a boss. He's still alive after all these years of drinking and doing drugs and he looks great 🔥
He was still a fairly young man when he quit though. It's amazing how we can nurse our body, mind & spirit back to health & reverse time after years of hard living...believe me, for I am living proof. Niki has been clean & sober for longer than he abused substances, add good genes & there ya go
It's so hard to just STOP. I'm still trying and the in-between moments are definitely the hardest. Have alot of respect for these rockers for quitting.
No Chris Holmes of WASP? No one remembers the pool interview? That guy is alive and well today btw
He’s not sober anymore dude.
Hate to hear that he seemed very troubled in that by the pool episode of his.😷
Oh I remember watching it I was amazed that he was able to stay alive not being mean but I figured he would have died hate that he fell off the wagon
That pool interview was something else. I saw a recent interview with him and he said he is still sober.
Pool interview is fake. That's water not vodka. That's why it doesn't burn his eyes. You can't pour vodka in your eyes. I mean you can but you're gonna be blind in Texas for real. Or ya know temporarily blind wherever you are when you do it.
I've been clean from heroin for over 10months, but I need to quit drinking. I just can't have one and relax. It sucks, but I'll have to do it sooner than later. I'm not getting younger
Good luck man.
@@kingbumi3418 thanks man
You're picking the wrong year to stop drinking, buddy.
@@ubermikesocal I don't imagine I'll stop this year its a bitch of a year, but one of these days....when I'm ready I'll be ready. I kicked the dope and that is a huge monkey off my back
Tim R I congratulate you on quitting drugs, but the fact that you keep drinking because it’s a ”tough year” sounds like an excuse to me.
I wish you the best of luck!
This inspires me so much. I am blessed to be sober for over 3 years
slash is the main one im proud of...seen that dude so damn hammered he couldnt even play
Stevie Ray Vaughan should be added to the list too
Well, he's dead. It's easy to stay sober while you're dead.
This is inspiring. I'm one year, five months sober. My band is SO much tighter too-musically and otherwise.
It’s good to hear these guys are doing well. It can inspire people, if they can get and stay sober so can everyone else struggling with addiction.
I'm making a list
This is probably the best vid you guys ever made!
Smelly from NOFX is a good example too. His stories about quitting booze and heroin in their book etc are insightful
YES. GREAT VIDEO!
I kinda needed this video thanks
Yes ma'am, this is a very serious problem. God bless🙏 take care and stay safe.
Inspiring short clips 👏
One day at a time... love these stories.
Love this video, sober/clean 12 years now
If you think about it...many of those who didn't quit in their thirties...didn't make it to their forties or fifties. They're all such beautiful artists with haunted souls.
Steve-O might not be a musician, but he’s sure as hell a Rock Star, and a sober one at that. He should have been on this list🤘🏼
I'm watching this after nearing the end of dry-July. The past few days I've been thinking "I'm looking forward to the start of August", but not so I can drink again.. it's so I can consider that an incredible milestone for me personally and potentially do another month. This video is just what I needed to watch. I'm intrigued about meditation though.. I feel like that's the alternate path I need to take away from alcohol.
Thanks !
There really is no cure for an addictive personality, there will always be a need for an escape for some people who have issues. The trick though, is replacing a bad addiction with a good one.
Therapy
In Alice Cooper's case, it's golf.
But you can redirect your life and fight as much as you can to NOT fall there again. Anyway, no matter how many times you relapse, as long as you keep fighting back and trying to save yourself.
Dude it’s insane that Ozzy, Nikki Sixx, Slash, Tommy Lee, and Keith Richards aren’t dead yet.
John Frusciante from Chili Peppers and Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode...(Dave died for two minutes btw) God bless both of them!
overcome alcohol is not an easy job.. for every person its a huge battle that you may win or lose..
I’ve watched so many people I admire, both celebrity and in my own life, sing the praises of sobriety (from alcohol, at least) and I know someday I’ll get there.
You got to tell yourself to quit. And be ready to quit.
....what about Jonathan Davis of korn he's sober, along with Brian head Welch.
Sober after 27 years!!!!! Best thing I ever done. But a busted liver. 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
Bra jobbat! 🇸🇪
Ace frehely deserves honorable mention
I have that SLASH pic on my Rolling Stones collectors edition of GN'R. 😀
*Comunity sober chat* James Hetfield left.
there are literally thousands of rockstars with this problem of addiction, all trying escaping something within themselves or in life..It's good to see they cleaned up their acts, so to speak...If you can get thru a cpl weeks without that "crutch" your golden for the most part \m/
I keep forgetting how Jacked Slash is. Lowkey ye inspired me to work out. 4 years strong 💪
Alice Cooper was my first thought and the first person shown here. \m/.
This inspires me but I'm not going to quit drinking, although I do hate hangovers
Same here, as long as you have it under control, that jack and coke will always be the best thing to get yourself relaxed and insightful.
It's not the drug itself that's the problem, it's the people that abuse it. Though I'm so happy for everyone on this list.
King diamond is a great example of someone who kicked addiction. After he dealt with his smoking addiction and had to get a triple bypass, then proceeded to become a much better singer and a much healthier person too! Surprised he was not included.
I’m glad they stopped drinking I’m having a hard time quitting myself I just feel like I need it to feel good about myself
I know what you mean.
Well done to all of these people. It takes a strong character to do that.
What about Anthony Kiedis or most of the Red Hot Chili Peppers
Frusciante was the heaviest all of them, no doubt!
Hello loudiwre, can you do a top 10 of Spanish rock bands cause of some of friends were asking me about it if you guys could do a video please.
I’m so used to slash wearing his iconic top hat, and seeing him wearing a paper boy hat it’s just no just no
This is a good video . I been sober a year Exactly. It’s good seeing this
Good for them and for everyone else trying to get/stay sober and I thought nikki six was russell brand at first
Thanks.
I still find it amazing that Lemmy Kilmister made it to 70 years old. He was a freak of nature man. He probably would’ve lived to 120 sober...
this is the content I signed up for
What about Ozzy🥺
I dont think he's sober.
Thank you loudwire for not making this a dirty top ten and letting the actual people involved talk about there struggles.
Actually is more impactful than the usual clickbait rubbish we get
Peter DiStefano from Porno For Pyros has 23 years sober.
6 months ago he wouldve been
Phil Colleen of Def Leppard should be in this list
Yeah Phil has been sober for over 30 years and the guy is in amazing shape.
I had my first drink at four, good old Budweiser
Don't forget David Gahan of Depeche Mode. Loved the smack so much he died briefly.
Ace Frehley deserves at least an honorable mention-
You miss Eric Clapton, sober since 1986
Lucky to be alive !
Pete Way..bass guitarist in rock group UFO. Out drank them all. Pete's famous saying was that he "didn't know what a hangover felt like as he had never been sober".
Sometimes addiction truly can be a life and death struggle in the mind. Imagine how different music history would be if more people found the strength to fight their problems. SRV may have opened up for Hendrix, or Nirvana could be still here today with maybe some of Dave's song ideas for the Foo Fighters ending up as Nirvana tracks.
What about Sonny Sandoval (P.O.D.), every Motley Crue and Guns N' Roses member and Ozzy Osbourne?
Duff should be on this list, too!
Dave Mustaine...? He's been sober for over a decade
David Ellefson was been sober since the late 1980s. Mustaine has had numerous relapses and these days drinks moderately as far as I know. He owns his own winery for godssake.
Drinking moderately =/= being an addict. By that logic, if I have a glass of wine a day, does that make me a drunk?
Dave is back drinking again but very very responsibly.. he’s all grown up
ikr
@@panelvanhalen9717 and that is a greater achievement than not drinking at all in my opinion. Of course everyone is different, but i think it's harder to control yourself when drinking than to avoid it at all cost especially when you have his history of addiction...
Tesekkurler
Joel Birch from The Amity Affliction is someone who makes me proud of what he has accomplished!
These guys should be proud being sober. It is so much better being off all that shit.
Being the daughter of a former Alcoholic who has been 33 years Sober.
He can never imagine going back to who he was.
I'm a fan of all these guys featured here, except I don't know who Matt Pike and Randy Blythe are.
Never heard of matt pike but randy blythe is the vocalist of lamb of god and hes fucking amazing
They should make list for the people who tried but failed
Slash been dancin with mr brownstone
What about ACE!!
Right on Ruth...
Will try the 30 days 0 alcohol. As a musician it's kinda tough. However its time for change. Pls wish me luck.
Good for them but im not ready
I met Slash..n he was telling the kids who wanted him to sign jack daniel bottles or cig packs that he doenst anymore
Sammy's sitting there ...... "crap...I came on here to sell my tequila"
