People do not come here for anything but what they believe is the " American Dream ". So I teach English online, (yes, it doesn't pay tons, but it's good compared to people working in Nicaragua) and I'm wondering if that is what the person commenting is thinking about. If you work for a big company like I do, there are hours around the clock, so you can choose your own time of day. I talk to people in Asia in the evening, their morning. But you can talk to people all around the world at different times.

Exactly. Is there "work here?" No Is it great for digital nomads? Yes, it's perfect. Doesn't get better. Can you invest? Yes, totally allowed and good, just really hard, but if it is something you can justify (you love it, you have an amazing idea, you just want to create jobs) then by all means it's a wonderful thing to attempt. Hello. Im looking to move to Nicaragua. You seem to be knowledgeable and my question is: would you recommend transporting vehicles from US to Nicaragua or would it be better to purchase there?
In almost all cases, no, it's not recommended to bring a vehicle in from abroad. Do exceptions exist? Definitely. But most of the time, no. Import, transport, repair parts, repair knowledge... it all makes it quite difficult to justify the time and effort involved. Buying a vehicle here is almost always better, at least 85% of the time. I do plan to buy one abroad but only barely (e.g. Costa Rica) and because it's a specialty low cost electrical vehicle and I know what chances I am taking with it. And it's not because it's a smart thing to do, it's for the RUclips channel. So the "value" is different than normal.
So professional gamblers shouldn’t get excited when they go to a casino in Nicaragua, win on slots, see $1000 & then realize that it’s Cord not dollars.
Well if they are gambling with it, you shouldn't feel bad. Just walking into a casino is a luxury that I don't consider myself able to afford. They have the option of not gambling.

Why did they come back from the states? Because of family in NI.. I give you one success that arrived and developed a few years before my own Real Estate Developement, I must mention my friends , owner of Pharrohs Casino. Canadian friends. So there are many ways to make money in real estate investing in NI.. You must use top people in your ventures. I must tell you funny stories regarding "ignorant" attorneys thinking they're going to pull one over on an Expat. OH yes, my own person business started 25 years ago. Many of my own original friends have moved. So maybe what you are saying is true, in recent years the atmosphere has changed.
Yeah, definitely SOME opportunity exists. But it's nothing like it used to be. There was a time when the country wasn't developed and loads of gaps existed in the market. But there's little missing now, anything missing is filled in quickly. Twenty, even ten years ago, starting a business had a lot of potential. Today, it's not technically impossible, but it's extremely hard. I bet if your friends had to do it all over again today, even if no one else had done the same thing, they'd find it very hard to do again. So many businesses that were pretty easy ten years ago are unthinkable now. If you think about it, someone opening a restaurant ten years ago would have gotten six years of fat years to cover their investment, learn the ropes when things were easy, build up a nest egg and now they get to ride it out or even make lean profits by keeping their overhead low. A new business can't do that, they have to pay off the mortgage with current income, not past income. Someone who can invest today and hold out for a decade, maybe they can do it, if they know what they are doing. But the payoff times for most businesses are so long, if ever, and so unknown.
Think I’ll start with $1K monthly investment in Nicaragua: By hiring (3) Nicas for domestic support/personal assistant/driver. That money never loses value to me, while employing 3 people in need. The retirement mission statement is taking shape.

Correct. It has been many years. I "think" teaching jobs were available due to interest in the tourist industry that existed at the time. I doubt the same jobs exist anymore.

I would assume insanely little profits as most of the people with plantain farms border on being homeless. There's a truly endless supply of people living at the poverty line (or below) growing plantains in the country and there is a massive surplus. Coming in and competing with people living on $150/mo with existing farms that are already supplying the market feels like an impossibility. But maybe there's some economic factor I'm not aware of. But from a look at the market, there's zero additional demand and no one doing it today is making money.
Few years, we plan to rent for many, many more. No point in buying where we are. Rent is so good. Might buy land, but just to have a spot picked out. If we can rent for forever, we probably will.
