If they say they hate you but still talk to you, it’s probably because they don’t want to be rude by ignoring you, not that they like you. What’s more common is fidgeting, maybe they start wearing colors similar to you, or suddenly becoming socially awkward when you start talking to them. (We’re usually not great at starting conversations, at least in my experience.)

As someone with experience, I can confidently say that no, this is not true at all. If they say they hate you but still talk to you, it’s probably because they don’t want to be rude by ignoring you, not that they like you. What’s more common is fidgeting, maybe they start wearing colors similar to you, or suddenly becoming socially awkward when you start talking to them. (We’re usually not great at starting conversations, at least in my experience.)
To know that I like you it would be like
1.sometimes during class I look at you but pretend like I’m trying to look at the wall or something.
