  • Just Ken: the story of a puppet who wants to become a real boy
...or at least a real fuq boi
p.s. I know haters going to hate that I focused so much attention on one word, but I'm telling you... I don't understand how a $145 million movie can come out with such an obvious affront to the same cause it claims to support... unless gasp Barbie was never really a feminist movie, but rather, a patriarchal movie that made millions off the back of feminist movement ideas.
p.p.s. If you think that concept sounds ridiculous, consider, for a second, that it's the same way capitalism can profit off of selling anti-capitalist content. Or hey, maybe Barbie is neither feminist nor patriarchal, but rather: both (i.e. inherently contradictory, like a lot of late-stage capitalist content... because it's possible the creators are conflicted--maybe they hold feminist beliefs but still having a lot of unexamined patriarchal beliefs deep rooted in their psyche).

I've been reading more articles to see if anyone on this planet agrees with me, and I found a great article that gets close to what I'm saying in this video. Here's an excerpt from it:
"I left the Barbie movie assuming it would be quickly dismissed as a bananas disaster, until I opened my social media accounts and saw countless people hailing it as a masterpiece of feminist art.
Ironically, when I criticized the Barbie movie for not actually being feminist, backlash came with the opposite assertion; I should’ve never expected it to be feminist in the first place. It was just a silly movie to be watched for fun.
Well, which is it? Is it a monument of feminist filmmaking, or a silly comedy, whose purpose is only to inspire a bit of fun? It can’t be both.
    I say it isn’t either.
The Barbie movie is the pinnacle of capitalist emptiness. And like all capitalist emptiness, in its heart broils a lethal sexist venom.
It’s daunting enough to be the one to stand up and proclaim that the empress isn’t wearing any clothes. It’s even worse when all of your friends are busy publicly complimenting her pink, bedazzled sashes. But here I go anyway. Let’s inspect the so-called feminism the Barbie movie gives us."

I 100% agree with you. It is mind-blowing to me how many people give it a good rating considering on how many levels it fails. Yes, on the surface, it's all nice feminist existential stuff, but look a bit more deeply (which most people don't seem able to do), and, as in your example of the word mf, it all falls apart. Why did she go back to the patriarchy in the end if their world just improved to become better? How did idiot Ken convince all the smart Barbies to join the patriarchy in one day? And how come they seemed happier than before? Why were the women manipulative and lying? Why were the men stupid? How can you put a small anti-capitalist speech in it, and then have it all become a huge commercial? Not to talk about the plot holes, undeveloped characters, and some failed attempts at humor. Again, to me, it's absolutely mind-blowing how some people don't see how bad it is, in so many ways...

And sadly, most of your viewers (which I'm sure are much more intelligent than the average person) don't even get your point about the word. It's a poor word choice. The word itself, because it can (also) be used by men to compliment each other, it's degrading towards women. It's one of those things that perpetuate patriarchy in our subconscious without us even realizing it. But you would expect the scriptwriters to catch on to this, not to include it as a victory line on the feminist side. Not to say that even the form of feminism they presented was not up to date. How can you say women have no power in a movie produced and directed by women, having the main character a female star? And not any movie, but the one with the highest budget of the year. It's ridiculous.

it's a good example of the woke mythology. leftists are social determinists - everyone would be living in the garden of eden (barbieland) if it weren't for society's programming (patriarchy). the only reason behind differing outcomes is due to social indoctrination not diversity of ability/competence.
of course this is nonsense. in the real world women have had equal rights and opportunities for over a 100 years and the outcomes of our society are primarily determined by iq and hard work. feminism basically has no real significance in countries that have already afforded equality de jure.
neither capitalism nor feminism nor any other 'ism' will bring fulfillment to your life. true feminism is simply individualism and true capitalism merely grants you the freedom to pursue your goals but it's always up to you to bring that desire to achieve and to feel proud of yourself for what you've accomplished.
if you're not happy in a society that allows you to watch a barbie movie you definitely won't be happy in societies that outlaw barbie movies.

@yesreneau I couldn't agree more, I left the cinema... just weirded out and deflated. Like ... it is all we already know. Even the big feminist speech about what roles women need to have. Like all felt very very surface level. But I am glad so many people and so many women did have a good time watching it and felt like it benefited the society.

it still represents feminism perfectly (hate men, kill children) it just swapped out the badass female lead for the pretty in pink version to appeal to the feminine women. the female superhero movies weren't working so they changed strategy and the implicit misandry and child hatred were well-hidden under shades of pink and magic mike-type guys with their abs out. look at hot guys, treat them like the babies you don't have but don't marry them - go to college, get into student loan debt and work for us through your reproductive years.

I always thought "motherfucker" was an insult that suggests someone is incestuous with their own mother. Rather than to imply that it's bad to have sex with a mother.

    • @MusicThrower
      @MusicThrower 9 месяцев назад +4

You are definitely correct on this, it's because of the incestuous nature that makes it "bad", although "motherfucker" is almost never used literally.
Why would having sex with a mother be a bad thing? There is nothing there as an insult, if that is how one would use it. Other examples are "dog fucker", "cousin fucker", "goat fucker", they are all insults because it's weird to fuck animals, or incest. Never because it's insulting a type of person (mother) for no reason.
If the film used "son of a BITCH", then I could see a problem with that, but not with "motherfucker".

@@MusicThrower If anything the patriarchical insult is to say "I fucked your mom". Because you're dishonoring the man by sexualizing his mother.

'motherf*cker' is just an interjection/curse word.. it's not sexist unless you've been brainwashed by harvard's racist matriarchy into believing that the use of words are worse than admitting students to a prestigious university based on race/sex instead of performance. the only problem with its use in this context is that it's a cheap joke, like when a comedian yells a bunch of curse words to get a reaction from a bored audience because their act isn't really that funny.

yeah, they shoehorned that in at the end but the majority of the movie was marxist propaganda (society is a power struggle between women and men and there is no other alternative but patriarchy or matriarchy). obviously this is just a childish strawman created by psychopathic lesbians who hate straight people that fall in love, make babies and cooperate to raise a family together. i mean, i feel bad for depressed lesbians who have nothing better to do in life than go to they gynecologists and hate straight people but that's not my idea of a good story for a beloved character. ultimately the movie was just anti-human communism packaged in a pink bow. sadly, if barbie was actually a real person in our society today the people who are using her to forward their agenda would hate her for being white, being pretty and for supporting a legitimate democratic vote in our society. the people who made this movie are racist, sexist, heterophobic and authoritarian.

You know what, this is a really interesting point. Most of the other expletives that they could’ve replaced it with are all derogatory towards women. “B***h, c**t, etc”. I guess they really wanted the line to work and be a cool power move- which they didn’t need to do, you’re so right. As for other points OF COURSE it was made to be profitable, it centres on an iconic toy line in the first place. However! I think it was transformative and added a layer to the barbie company that wasn’t there before this movie. Overall I’m certain it’s done more good than harm. Whoops didn’t mean to write so much hehe thanks if you read it

I feel like living life with this level of scrutiny leads people to walk on eggshells because the second they make one “mistake” (which is an assumption here because mother f*Cker may be being used in its colloquial form which basically just means badass) then they’re completely ruined or cancelled. At the end of the day no one is perfect. Imagine if I was watching this video, and then make a whole response against yours and say “here she was trying to show the injustices of Barbie for not being feminist enough and uses a cut scene of south park which uses humor that is sometimes misogynistic” in short, I think it’s important to be socially conscious of others but when we feel like are walking on eggshells as a society you end up with an opposite extremes (I.e. Donald trump)

I did not watch the movie HOWEVER the company came out with a Barbie documentary as well before the movie was released and once I was watching it.....YEAH NO it gave me plastic words. Like the person who created Barbie, she was innovative and she broke barriers however the company now just wants to rebrand Barbie as inclusive and innovative when its truly just an ad (the movie) so they can make Barbie popular again, where they put so much money into to just make the brand look bad. This movie literally couldve have been symbolic as to what we wish this current society could already be INSTEAD its just a dipiction of what society is now. The disingenuous movements that say companies, brands, and people, are inclusive and woke when its just said they are for the only reason that it benefits them with a lot of money.

Profiteering and extractivism often do have such a close relationship!
Let alone the fact of emissions in driving to movie theaters and engaging in consumerism.
Being a motherfuxker is an insult itself though ... That silences women as objects of male sexual aggression.
You better hope Gosling engages in further feminism if he profited from this movie. Haha

I think this was a patriarcial movie, since the Kens were only depicted as super rude and controlling (stereotypes) and had the genders been reversed, it would be considered sexist. Using MF is just another reason why this movie was not well-made.

feminism is actually misogyny... or hatred for the female role as wife and mother. if you're not as good at being a man as men you're not a good person. the one thing the movie got right is that if you believe this nonsense and engage in this imaginary political battle against patriarchy you're gonna have to learn to enjoy the gynecologists as that's the only action you're gonna get down there when you end up single and childless.
