      I really liked this campsite. Great contrast to the surrounding desert landscape 👌🏾

    Been watching so many of your videos. Great content from you two. Thanks for the great guides and tips.
    My wife and I enjoy the outdoors and your trips are giving us great ideas.
    The Growcery is now officially on our bucket list for later this year.
    Cheers!

      Very nice site, especially if you want to include a paddle down the Orange River. I've stayed there twice, and definitely recommend the paddle down the river. It was quite easy going.
      Note though that the heavy rains this season and high water level flooded some of the sites. I think they are currently rebuilding/reconfiguring.

    I'm so jealous!! Even though I just spent the weekend all on my own, except for the odd hiker, off the grid! Not a place I'm allowed to mention but it was so quiet and peaceful. Going to show this video to my wife as inspiration for our next holiday. OH! I saw that cool pic of the fire!

      Can definitely recommend Richtersberg. If possible also consider rafting down the Orange River from The Growcery as part of your holiday if you have enough time.
      Nice to have a couple of secret off-grid spots 😉

    Richtersveld is awesome! Definitely for the more self-sufficient campers, remember to look out for the halfmens trees. We found some big scorpions, if you know what you are doing the fishing can be spectacular!

    The flooding that took place in late December was quite hectic. I wonder what the sites look like now

    • @TravelGigolo
      @TravelGigolo  3 года назад +2

      We were there just a week or so before that. I'm expect that the road going into the campsites and the river bed immediately in front must look quite different.

    Can you swim across the Orange River into Namibia? or have to use official crossings? I am aware that here and KTP you don't need a passport to go over provided you enter and leave same country.

    • @TravelGigolo
      @TravelGigolo  2 года назад

      Interestingly there is disagreement on where the border is exactly. A treaty between Britain and Germany, concluded in 1890, sets the demarcation at the high-water level of the northern bank. To the best of my knowledge SA and Namibia have not agreed on an alternative demarcation. So it seems that technically you can swim across the river and never leave SA.
      I've paddled down the Orange from Vioolsdrift to Aussenkehr. For that trip we had to come back by road via Namibia, so we stamped into Namibia before the trip and stamped out when we back. We camped on either bank as was convenient.

    Hi good review but there is one thing nobody ever mentioned as pensioners what do you look at cost wise for a trip like this coming from Cape Town

    • @TravelGigolo
      @TravelGigolo  3 года назад

      Hi there, thank you for the feedback. I don't indicate the prices as they may change and therefore be incorrect, depending on when the episode is watched.
      I leave a link to the booking site under each campsite, or accommodation, review to facilitate access.
      SANParks have a pensioners discount. Also, consider getting a Wild Card from SANParks to save on entrance fees.
      Hope that's helpful.

      You need to report to the Sendlings Drift SANParks office to check-in. You can do the booking and payment online though via SANParks website.

    Just make your own bush camp at Richtersberg. You need a panga and a saw. We spent 2 nights at our own selfmade spot.

    • @laradematos
      @laradematos 3 года назад

      Sorry to jump in here but that's not something to promote or advise to other campers, as it's not only destructive, but actually a serious offense in SANParks' national parks.

    • @TravelGigolo
      @TravelGigolo  3 года назад

      Hmmmm, not sure that's legal in a national park. Also what concerns me is that if one person does so, then the next, and so on then eventually there is no control and the impact is not managed.

    Seemingly it's not ideal for an amateur.

    • @TravelGigolo
      @TravelGigolo  3 года назад +1

      I would say it's not ideal for someone who does not have some experience or who is not with a group of experienced campers. The main reason is that you need to be self-sufficient. The nearest place you can get anything is a long drive to Sendlings drift, which has very limited supplies. If you need anything significant other than basic food and drinks then it's an even longer drive to Springbok.
