Colonization but the Natives saw it coming

- Historically, the Europeans would colonise North America, founding the United States of America and surplanting the existing Native Americans. Today, however, we play as the Iroquios and get to the Europeans before they can come to us. We take on the Europeans wherever they land and even at sea... though it does take us a while to catch up economically.

'The Portuguese Mexicans are back' something about this sequence of words in the tone used got a chuckle out of me
Yay! The "peacefull" native bois got a sequel! Gotta *bring democracy* to the "new" world in the east!
Well you see, the people of the European continent simply were not as civilized. They barely ever bathed, and didn’t grow multiple crops in the same fields. So, Iroquois imperialism was an inevitable and just process, bringing the light of development to the dark continent of Europe
@@paraphilicanalysis1737 I love this, every sosiety had its own developments and better praktises that others didn't (other North American native developments inklude snowshoes and sunglasses), and they all had kool kultures
With that Portugal war, the only thing I can think of is Portugal’s colonies had enough ae to join a coalition, and the game bugged out and made Portugal the war leader.
“ae”?
@@MisterPogman aggressive expansion, a negative modifier on your relations with a country that has to be greater than -50 with three seperate countries for a coalition to be created
Or maybe the war goal of the coalition transfered to portugal, like the game does for regular claims.
@@kaankanca4634 It doesn't work like that, the overlord only joins the war automatically if a nation with its capital outside the Americas attacks the colonial nation
Can you declare wars with your subject's casus belli's?
I’m doing an Iroquois save rn and it’s a lot of fun, happy to see more non European videos and hope to see more in the future!
It seems like paradox expected people to play the natives a lot but no one did so they set up a lot but never expanded or updated it
I’ll say this much, the small bit of inclusion in Civilization series has been all I played for years, the part I always felt missing from Crusader Kings 1 and 2 was Turtle Island … so finding these videos I think I’ll go out and buy EU4.
28:40 "north american hussars aren't exactly feared, don't think we've ever used cavalry, we don't have horses"
*Comanches have entered the chat*
Comanche horses were brought by europeans to the americas.
@@claudiotavares9580 yes and the Comanches quickly learned to use them extremely effectively
@@thebegungler7333there's no colonizers for horses 💀
i think Portugal was able to declare the punitive war because Portuguese Mexico was in the coalition against you, and overlord's get access to most CBs subjects have. but since Portugal wasn't in the coalition and it was an offensive war, the rest of the coalition couldn't join
YES I was really hoping you would continue this play through! Nice! This is so much better than an EU4 Colonial Novgorod game with no forming Russia, so glad you did this instead!
Im Burger King, and I disapprove this message
I think I have bad OCD. Him not cleaning up the small native nations inside his green mass of a nation made me so upset I had to turn it off and comeback to finish the episode after reconciling the fact he may never make it all one color
*Map painters have joined the chat*
Interestingly, it seems like he "invented" New World city states. They deved up a bunch in their single provinces.
I flinched every time the outlook notifications popped, uni can be terrifying LMAO
I love this so much, I hope we see a part 3
The natives, not understanding fully what a Russia is, probably only hearing its name from the occupied Europeans they conquered being like, “You know what? They’re our main competition.”
Reminds me of my korea game when I could just rival spain so early lol
Gotta say I’m a sucker for strong native games so I’d definitely vote for a become number one world power continuation.
(Also here is an engagement offering for the engagement god)
Imagine there was mass communication after the Hispañola encounter
I can go to the bathroom and still know what's happening because I can still hear my computer speakers and you narrate everything that happens on screen
That email notification sound at 6:35 made me minimize the video to check my inbox.
same lol
same again at 16:15 lmao
I just imagine a little Danish boy looking out to sea saying "daddy daddy native Americans are sailing ships" and then his father replies laughing "silly boy natives Americans can't sail boats" *he looks out to sea as the men set foot on the sand with rilfes wearing war paint and no shirt pointing the rifle to his face. As the father replies "oooh poop"
My wife is Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), Onöndowa'ga (Seneca), Heron Clan; they would approve! Great video!
I just whispered “hell yeah” to myself as I clicked IMMEDIATELY upon realizing which campaign was returning. Loved the first episode and can’t wait to see the shenanigans here
I wonder if playing as one of the fantasy nations from the random new world generator would make for a good video or two
"Let's celebrate by getting rid of our son" 👁️👄👁️
Hey Laith, loving the videos. As someone from Newfoundland, the way we pronounce it is kinda weird lol. Most people say it like "New-fin-land"
“Why did you kill yourself”
-Laith talking at an Imperator Rome player’s funeral 2023
Please continue it longer!
Please continue!!!
Awesome! Thanks so much Laith! Made it to 1600, and kicking ass! Very few actually take the time to master those tricky Natives. Well done! I for one would love to see this taken to 1700.
The video opens with most wholesome ruler event chain ever, and it's immediately followed by disinheriting the new heir. Amazing.
Iroquois manpower is great. Probably the best ideas in the new world.
Bold of you to use a thumbnail with an arrow pointing from the Iroquois to the Irish, as though they were colonisers
I recently found your channel, really enjoy the quality of your content but I hate how hard it is to find the other half of any of your multi-part episodes
I love this series
please give us more!
My favorite campaign ever was Third Odyssey where I did just this and conquered the whole Med.
As a Native in Canada I really appreciate this

Love this Laith! Keep it coming!
This is so fucking funny. I’m Iroquois, this is peak timeline
As a Navajo I'm glad to see true Democracy of the People in action.
HUGE UPSWELL OF SUPPORT!!!
Interesting role reversal.
Really love this save, it’s fun seeing a different angle on this game
I'm loving seeing you these events for the first time. If you think the invitation to join the great power war is weird, wait until you see how map vision works when you reform into a Horde...
Also, you pronounce Newfoundland strangely.
what annoys me about this game, (amongst other things lol) is like, when i played a native nation i think it was huron, and took nearly all of the americas and then landed on west europe with like half a million men, a really easy war against france but i can only take like 6-10 provinces and then get a huge coalition... i feel like the game would be better if wars are more costly (money, happiness or whatever mechanic) and tougher to win, but when u win u can take more stuff... ie more provinces and less ae and less oe.. war less often but take more... its kinda annoying to war a HUGE otto and then take 6-8 provinces and have to war him 30 times.. just the same thing over & over again.. 10 years of war for 6 provinces just makes you not want to bother doing the war
or maybe they could do it where every nation has the chance to have a mingsplosion? so i war the ottos twice and fully take their provinces.. so devastation is really high.. they get tons of rebels and explode into 12 small nations.. then i can just war all the smaller nations and other people also eat up those nations... so that way u probably only need to actually war otto 2-3 times at most before they collapse (depending on how much devastation u caused)
Hey Kevin how's it going?
cascadia forming around hudson bay instead of the PNW is so cursed lol
Host a new world multiplayer battle royal! You can be a migratory nation in the plains and form a horde.
He did that back when leviathan came out
@@imspudus It's worth another try, not as buggy now and allow players do what they want instead of no wars then 1v1s or whatever
I will say, as a Totemist (pagan) nation you can technically form the Roman Empire.
Just recently found Out that you now can play as Spain but with the government of the Netherlands. That is very great. The "General states" is now an option in the governace reform tab
As someone that lives in the Pacfic Northwest... that is a cursed Cascadia.
Been waiting for this video
I definitely want to see more if only to see into the terra incognita that is Europe. No seriously, the Iroquois cartographers have some strange priorities😅😅
I am merely engaging by commenting here so I can get a continuation and see the Iroquois spread further
6:35 that zoom ping gave me PTSD.
Nobody expects the 'Iroquoisition'
Continue please!
We pronounce Newfoundland as "New-fund-land." New-found-land just sounds weird. This is a Province in Canada to this day.
newfinland 🇫🇮
huge overwhealming support
On the Russian conquest of theodoro... its quite possible that Poland occupied Theodoro in a separate war and Russia declared war for Theodoro as the AI saw that Ottomans were sieged down either completely or nearly completely by Poland, then either Poland took and released a Theodoro vassal. Or in the peace deal had Theodoro released, and then vassalized. Or Theodoro was a subject of Ottomans and used transfer subject control. And since EU is not like CK, if the war goal is lost in a separate war to a different nation, your war does not get invalidated and immediately end. You can still occupy and annex other parts.
In this part of history, the main advantage that the Europeans had was that they had immunities to diseases that the natives didn't. If there existed a stable empire in the Americas in the way you have it, they may well have fallen apart anyways as millions died from disease.
3,600 hours and still has yet to unlock all of the achievements
About if colonialism would be the same, I believe not.
The Aztecs themselves only lost because of diseases and infighting.
Tenochticlan itself was a hugely populated place at the time, I believe that it rivaled and perhaps even surpassed Paris in people per km², which explains the huge vulnerability to old world diseases.
Infighting could be supressed if the natives were like the Iroquois of the video, centralized enough to have a standing army with professional training.
The european powers would have to fight at the farthest yet known place at the time, that would mean no supplies besides the ones you bring, attrition would eat at them just like it's eating Russia at the conflict with Ukraine, but far, far worse.
To top it all they would have to fight in the densely forested and humid place that is the U.S coast, which would only make attrition worse. Supplies and morale would rot away before they made any real advance.
Tl;dr: Especulative Iroquois Empire smashes puny old europe.
Can't can the series before we get to see what the hell is going on in Europe.
There is an argument to be made that an existing centralized north american native state would have made colonisation easier, due to preexisting gouvernmental structures allowing for the taking over of such an apparatus for exploitation purposes, for example as the spanish did with the actezcs or as you have mentioned the british with the mughals. The spanish didn't bother colonising north america as much because they already had the best bits where this was the case, late comers like the british and french just pivoted to NA because it was still up for grabs. Thus the colonisation of NA and meso- and south america was so diffrent because the decentralised natives structures could just move away (up to some point).
yes please continue, i wanna see you own all of the americas
the Teams pings really threw me off every time
Perhaps in the Portugal war colonial nations get a Punitive CB when you full annex their colonial nations?
I want to see that Austira
Community post maybe?
Part 3 please!!! :)
WE WANT MORE
natives idea are there before you reform and they are by and far the best idea group in the game without equal
yes definitely continue this :)
i recently played england and used save scumming to become the most powerful nation on the planet by 1600... all u do is not allow ur allies to ever get an heir.. i got france pu, portugal pu, bohemia pu, austria pu, russia pu, syria vassal, byzantium vassal, and 2 big vassals in africa feeding them all the non coastal provinces... this game is sooo easy when ur allies cant get heirs.. you should try it
Leaving a comment to boost this video in the algorithm!
Laith : ah my shoulder!
do Toteism and Republic government form still have great synergy? Like when you vote for a new ruler, the old one can be used in the religious tab. So you can buff up quick that way.
ive been trying to play the Navajo. They're on the west side. Its kinda hard. I have no idea how to play it. You start at lvl 1 gov reform while most other tribes start at level 3 reform. so youre like just migrating around at first. its so different from the france game i played where i became the world superpower. fun game. any tips on playing the western side of natives? i heard they werent worth trying but i wanna make it work.
I think navies do not fight each other if both are transporting troops, thats why your navy and the french didn't engage a couple of times.
I'm pissed with the Iroquois, I was peacefully colonizing as The Isles and they decided to attack my colonies in Canada, France (my only ally at that point) refused to join the war, then England attacked me a few days later. 100 years of slowly trying to build up removed in an instant.
Lesson learned, ally/befriend the natives.
please continue this game i beg you!
Day 34 of demanding an eu4 colonial Novgorod game (no forming russia)
let the campaign continue!
May it never stop until the video is made.
do you use any mods while playing?
Reverse Viking invasion the Vikings. Lol
I really love this playthrough, it is so incredibly entertaining to watch! I think you should also aim to conquer the current USA borders because it's fun :)
If you're interested in the Iroquois form of government i recommend watching historia civilis' video on it
Come on, continue this!
You just manifest your destiny.
Great video
So what I'm hearing is Iroquois WC by 1815? Yes?
@Laith okay, I've lived here for 10 years and I want you to say this with me:
It's Nooh-f'n-LAND.
Pronounce the 'new' a little bit, barely say "found", and emphasize "LAND"
I vote you complete the mission tree & get to #1 great power
You must convert Rome into totemist.
Please do a native horde campaign
I think you should switch your main trade node to gulf of st Lawrence so you cut off all the trade from N.America
Lore of Colonization but the Natives saw it coming momentum 100
I LIKED and SUBED for Iroquois #1
For a sec I thought I've got mail
Day 7: laith Bhutan world conquest
do native ideas stay if you take them before u reformed? i got a feeling they do, but i might be wrong.. i always have taken native ideas cos they seem kinda op
Pretty sure they will. Includes other empire type reforms. I think you should be able to get Horde ideas and keep them if you grab them during the big reform step.
@@Miranda17137 nice to know.. doesnt native ideas give an extra colonist? or was that on the reform things? when i played natives i didnt take the reform that gives you the institutions until as late as possible.. made sure that the colonial power had as many institutions as possible while devving up my nation... then i got 3 or 4 institutions in one go.. and after that u can tech up super quick cos ur ahead on institutions but way beind on tech. u will find urself only maybe 1 tech behind europe by the time they attack u without having wasted ur mana.. u just gotta time it right otherwise ur screwed
@@tigrecito48 Indigenous won't give you a Settler. I know the Australians and Polynesians have a Settler in their mission tree, and Aztec faith has a Settler as part of its reforms, but beyond that I'm not sure.
I'm 99% sure it'll be in the mission tree for all aboriginals. Indigenous is still a pretty good idea group to grab anyway, I think, as you can line up a pretty decent lot of dev cost reduction.
@@Miranda17137 maybe im thinking of older versions. i conquered all north & south america as huron back in 1.30.. i did cherokee in the new ones but i never conquer the whole lot cos dealing with natives is kinda annoying since the new updates.. having to war them constantly and take 1 province.. and taking their tribal land in a war and then 2 minutes later they just take it back again by moving.. and also.. while im moaning.. the australian tribes are annoying as hell for colonisers since new updates... i spend like 300 days waiting for my guy to arrive, they just migrate into it, undo it and migrate back again.. surely the devs have done this on purpose to be annoying? surely they should fix this? is it realistic that a bunch of settlers would go 98% of the way to australia and then go all the way home again cos some dudes moved house and then spend another 300 days to come back again? its beyond ridiculous... if the devs sorted out all these minor but irritating things in the game i wouldnt be on here moaning all the time. it must be a pretty simple fix...or maybe it isnt.. i aint no developer.. although i did do c++ programming in university and hey... some of the guys on my course could have sorted this sh*t out quicker than paradox does
Iroquois to Roman Empire when
It's a beautiful language and all but could you put a translation in the description?
First day of asking to continue the campaign with Bulgaria.
I’m being picky and there’s no way you could’ve known, but “Newfoundland” is pronounced NEW-fen-lend, not new-FOUND-land
Well, I haven't finished the video yet, roughly at 22 minutes, when you comment about how the europeans would react because of a massive native empire, well, the Incan empire pretty much ruled the known world (as they knew it), and the Spanish just went there and conquered it anyway, you need to remember that the natives were known as not knowing the world of god, therefore it was imperative to spread christianity through any means necessary (specially if it meant getting rich in the process), however, it's likely that the conquest of a massive native empire would've probably played out like the conquest of the Incan empire, they didn't just turn up and started conquering village after village, Pizzaro pretty much took advantage of local customs to make himself Sapa Inca (emperor) by force and subverted the entire empire from his position of power into a Spanish colony, because realistically if it was an actual warfare, like I imagine it was with some of the conquest of India, there was no way the colonial powers would be able to sustain such a logistical nightmare for that time period, and win the war, that's why if you go see a lot of colonial history is pretty much making deals with natives and then breaking them afterwards, it was pretty much a constant struggle to buy time for reinforcements, guns or whatever was needed to arrive
