Video quality and film look | Nokia 808 & Lumia 920

- I managed to borrow the two cellphones Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia 808 to see which one that has the best camera for filming, and to see if it's possible to make a cinematic film using the two cameras. I will also test the microphones, image stabilizers, auto focus, manual focus, zoom and some other features and settings and also test to film in low-light. I have heard that the Nokia 808 has on of the best cellphone cameras on the marked right now, so I'm really excited!

808 gives it a real Movie feel. 920 looks like a home video camcorder!!

Personally, I'm always in love with high contrast cameras. But dang, 808 just made me doubt my own feelings. Anyways, greet video man! I'm glad I've subscribed on your channel.
The reason why he liked less contrast is because the details are preserved, and you can adjust the contrast later on. Whereas if the phone records at high contrast by default, grain will appear if the contrast is lowered in post production. :)
02:14, did you see him adjusting the contrast -3 before recording video? that's why 808 clips show less contrast.
One of the best videos I have ever seen on RUclips. Thanks Andy. Rui Coelho is exactly right, "that nokia 808 is a camera with a phone , the 920 it's a phone with a camera, congrats you made amazing videos." The only "issue" for me with the 808 is image stabilization. But... wow! What phenomenal photos.! I wish Nokia would now make a phablet with the 41 megapixel sensor, with stabilization, and 4K video. THAT would be the bees knees!

This is the best produced review ever.
The 808 wins for me hands down. Able to do 24-25 fps for that film look and you can always color correct when editing.

Andy, I just bought Nokia 808 Pureview. Yes this November 2015 only. I must say I am really impressed with the Camera of 808. Btw, I am an Iphone and BB user. The symbian OS might be dead, but the Nokia 808 cam is simply amazing. And your video, is very informative, best detailed! Thanks! :)

his settings are right...you are right about the video being better at high cont and sharp without any editing...but if you grade the low contrast video, it'll look even better than the unedited one..
the 41mp is used to oversample in video too if you didnt know...thats wat gives the video super high detail levels even at that hign compression!

Just switch on the subtitles, RUclips subtitles have always been funny ! Its not uploader's mistake.
When he said Full HD, that time the subtitles were 'foolish'. For 'Manual Focus' it says 'Mental Focus'. :D And the next line 'and also test', check that line too :)

808 does it again. I simply cannot believe how many phones this device has been put up against and it blows them all away!
this odyssey of mine to get me my first smartphone ever ends right here. Never cared about smartphones, just have a simple Nokia cellphone plus a Casio EX-FS10 in my pockets. Contax 645 (not in my pockets) when I get serious. Yet the Casio broke down, so... I have seen video's of a host of them: iPhones, Galaxy, Xperia & so on. Then I thought the LG G4 might be it. Then I read a remark on the Nokia 1020 on a forum. Being an oldfashioned lover of cinema, I find the 808 astounding. I need to get this 808 to go through the experience myself... thank you for this great review! Very curious how the 808 will turn out.

im so thankful for guys like you the nokia 920 is amazing i never knew camera phones were that good and i wasted my money on a logitech c920 webcam cause its hd but when i film im not pleased with the shots but that lumia is incredilbe im returning that logitech and getting one of these nokia 920 it looks like a professional shot unless your really good at editing videos and yo make it look that good. thanks dude.

Is the lack of contrast setting software or hardware relating? That is, could it be fixed with a better recording application (that could come in the future)?

Well done. I always liked Nokia phones. Used to take clean photos and the videos were fair.
I can see that the 920 have some issues with auto white balance, you can see the white balance shifting/flickering, which is really annoying and pretty hard to fix in post, so 808 all the way too.
New Nokia 1020 pureview is out! This was such a good comparison, I would love to see a comparison of pureview 808 and pureview 1020!!!

Best comparison of phone camera but I wanna say that Nokia PureView 808 is way much better than any other camera phone & it's way less expensive now days in comparison to Lumia 920.

i wish! coz i have an 808! not many symbian developers left...dont think anyone will even try it...
yea...for color grading...too much contrast lowers detail levels. If you grade a video with high contrast levels, then there'll be a lot of noise and poor detail...

It´s crazy how now in 2017 im using a 920 as main phone... Maybe 4 years ago I would probably use the 808... Both are amazing devices.

hey...if you want a phone too, then this is the perfect camera for you...or else, u can get the canon eos 1100d DSLR...which would be a much better choice...i have the 808 and its unbelievably awesome....the video is brilliant but not comparable to a DSLR
808 has the same video quality as 929/930?
Actually it has EVERYTHING to do with video shooting and improves the Nokia 808 performance drastically. The 41 megapizel sensor allows for 4x lossless zooming during Full HD filming and if zoom is pulled back the data from the tens of millions of sensor pixels is averaged to a 2 megapixel Full HD video. This results in very low levels of noise since averaging significantly improves S/N ratio. Please Google "nokia 808 pureview white paper" to learn all the details behind this amazing camera.

So I conclude that, we need features of both the mobile camera to get a great camera. I have Lumia 630, it has manual focus for video. I feel all new Lumia has manual focus for video.

How not? All they are doing is combining Pure View V.1 (The 808) and PV V.2 (The 920). From what I have been reading, Nokia has been working with Microsoft the have WP8.1 ready for such a possibility of using a 41 MP sensor

Always a pleasure to learn from and enjoy your videos. I wish you did reviews more often. How do these phones compare to iphones? Seems like the one with the all the controls would smoke the iphone. I have an iphone 4s and had to purchase a bunch of apps to do what the Nokia 808 has built in.
Well XX are just place holders. The EOS is now known to be real, and it has been leaked. It does have a big sensor, and my guess is that it will be 41 MP just like the 808.
920‘s white balance is always shifting, 808’s is way better, I wouldn’t chose the 920

OK, what's so really nice about not being able to zoom while recording and the awful zoomed video produced by the 920?
The 808 does just great in both cinematographic and point-and-shoot every day usage.
