I agree with your thoughts about replayability. Customization and variance are nice things to have, but the deciding factor on replaying a game for me is if I want to replay that game. The hunt for Mighty guard when I had completed everything else in the game and was ready to go to the final dungeon was probably my least favorite part. I was definitely over grinding Random Encounters in My Heart by then. It would be nice if you could learn it from that blue Mage boss, but I doubt you could make him cast it on you.
When i played ff5 with none of the magic jobs i stole a few reflect rings, it was funny when bahamut ended up being a joke since everything he throws goes back to his face

I get that Mighty Guard IS supposed to be the ultimate super hidden amazing super spell, but also, getting it fuckin sucks

Reflect Rings aren't necessarily the best accessory in the game, but they are probably the most likely to break a boss fight in half.
@@Suprapika against some bosses it helped quite a bit, even against neo ex death it reflected his delta attack
