Trademark! I used to think it was something computerized, also because the amount of content this guy pumps out 😄 But turned out its a live person with a passion for engines and probably everything with an engine in it.
It's only natural. High revs mean high sound frequency, so the meanest sounding engines have the highest displacement and relatively low revs. In this aspect, formula 1 hasn't got anything on aero engines. :-D
Have you heard a ww2 fighter plane engine, they are low revving and sound great. For example the rolls Royce Merlin in the spitfire revs around 3000rpm and they sound pretty good.
loved this era of F1 racing with front engine monsters turning achievable revs. It went nuts once rear engines came in and some of the adventure was lost as the speeds got right out of hand and the death toll mounted. that was the time of division from Euro F1 and circle track North American racing. I think it was a different era for sure and all the advances, spectacular as they were w may not have been for the best. Good video. Thanks
Also, as it was long before the development of radial-belted tires, they were all cross-ply tires which didn't offer the most ideal grip (especially in wet conditions)!
I don't remember heard about a Italian V8 like that Lancia, even sounds more aggressive than any American big block engine! Amazing cars and a consistent information about the origin from each one.
I had toy models of some of those cars when I was a kid. I would love to rip around the track in one but I doubt I could get in! Thanks for these videos!
These old Six Packs make a Wonderful noise . In my opinion Straight Six IS the best sounding Engine . We all remember the Blood-curdling Shriek of the Ferrari V-12s of course . What a sound THOSE made . But I personally prefer to hear the " Lungs " working .
You could probably expand into full histories of brands and maybe evolution of specific tech. These compilations of engine sounds are great but might be running out of statistical anomalies.
I know we are all here for the autos, but that dog 4:48...lol. Any shop with a dog, regardless if its a Mack truck or Ferrari, the pup makes itself center of attention. Gotta love dogs.
@@chrisbaker2903 yeah. I was checking out the frame so I rewatched and paused. Then the dog stole my attention. My buddy died two years ago and I miss tripping over that dog. Engine work or felling trees, if I forgot to tell him to stay he was always in the way.
Of course the Auto Union V-16 Gran Prixcars from the 1930s only had a a redline of 5000 revs or so. The engine had one of the most unusual valve trains in racing history. The intake valves were opened by a single centerly located camshaft in a SOHC configuration. The same camshaft opened the exhaust valves via pushrods.
The Lotus 16 and 18 are both mid engine. The 16 is front mid engine and the 18 is rear mid engine. If you look at the 16 the engine is placed well behind the front axle making it a front mid engine layout.
I snapped the head on a Coventry climax fpf engine once. It has a head bolt that was hidden and my 16 year old head thought it was a good idea to lever it off🫣. The owner was not happy to say the least.
How about some *fuel-injected, cross-plane 8-cylinder engines (V8's, flat/boxer-8's and/or straight-8's)* -- be it either *N.A. (naturally aspirated),* *supercharged* and/or *turbocharged (single, twin-turbo, turbo-diesel, etc.)* -- ...in the future?
It's always nice to learn something new, and see something that you usually dont see here! I wonder on some of those F1 engines , how much Torque do they develop? Also, What's the most unusual engine that one has seen?
Still, subs says "Music" for the sound of most of them. Anyway, 1950s' F1s look weird by nowadays standard, front engines with carbs sounds like coming from a '70s sedan rather than from an F1, still in the '50s that was what they raced.
Hi, Visio. I would suggest you to make videos about other topics while still posting rankings about automotive tech stuff. Maybe, some diversity (I really don´t know about RUclips algoritms) that can help you to increase subscribers and views. Greetings from Argentina and don´t give up.
Just to mention some themes that come right now to my mind: cafe racers, planes, interesting car and bike builds, cars and bikes collections, cool trends, analysis on new cars and restomods like the Kimera EVO37 (for example), advanced materials used in cars and bikes, what makes some cars and bikes so specials, etc.
You missed the Talbot-Lago T26C. That had a big 4.5 liter engine that, I think, revs no higher than 6,000rpm. Edit: yeah, I just looked at pictures and stuff, and the Talbot Lago T26C had an engine whose redline starts at *5,500 rpm...*
Those later in the video look like toy cars. about the middle of the video those cars sounded like they had much larger engines than they had. I used to drive a 1998 Ford ZX2 Escort and it red lined at 8,500 rpm, more than almost all of the engines in this video. With it's 5 speed transmission it was so much fun to drive in LA traffic being not so wide as most cars and very responsive power. I like the clean look of the 60s F1 cars. They aught to take all the aero crap off the new cars and lower the maximum weight back to about 1,000 kg. Give them a 3.5 or maybe 4.0 inch stroke requirement and maybe 3 liters total displacement and naturally aspirated and a maximum of 5 forward gears and no DRS and no ERS. They aren't supposed to be street cars, they should be the most exciting fast things on 4 wheels that turn both left and right, not hybrids or electric, not demonstration models for new street car tech, and they shouldn't need a special system to help pass the guy in front of you.
heh best time.... Formula with front engine... Formula with AWD (6x6) and 2! front steered wheel... formula with handbrake...formula with gearshift out of car... time of Bugatti and small body, big hearted Mrs Eliska Junkova...
1st six wheeler has been the Tyrel P34 awd f1 like the Ferguson P99, BRM P67 and Lotus 56B. Front steer wheel it have some f1s but i dunno which of them. F1 with Handbrake.?? maybe Mclaren which they have a button and it locks the rear diff. F1 with Gearshift..? if im not wrong Ayrton Senna's Mclaren MP 4/4 has eguipped with Gearshift and the Lotus 97T. the rest of them i dunno either..
Fun fact: the Honda S2000 revs higher than all of these F1 cars.
And even a Mustang Shelby GT350 revs higher than all except one.
Learned that here!

Great vid. Maybe do one about why different fuels are used in some racing. eg. Alcohol, Methanol, Gin, Irn-Bru, etc.
It sucks that 80% of your viewers aren't subscribed. I hope you keep making awesome content for your true fans to enjoy.

The 1954 Lancia D50 v8 sounded awesome.

Your pronunciation of Buick perfectly describes how i feel about that brand.
My favorite was the the Offenhauser engine found in the Indy 500 winners when F1 considered that a F1 event.
420hp at 6600 RPM. Insane.
Could you do a video on racing engines that are based off road engines? Like the BMW m12 f1 engine that's based off the m10 engine?
