    FMA Brotherhood was airing while the manga was still going. The Brotherhood finale was one month after the manga ended. Other series like Assassination Classroom have done this as well. True, but the original Fullmetal Alchemist Anime had to kinda create it's own story, with permission from the author, because it caught up too quickly. The only reason they made Brotherhood as early was because they knew the Manga would be finished by the time they caught up again.

    I'm also worrying about the voice cast. They do have Tanaka voicing Luffy in the trailer. But are all returning to voice their characters? Considering that they also will be voicing not only the original ongoing anime. But the voice cast also dubbed the live action netflix show. Seems like a lot of work for the original japanese voice cast.

      @eyasa9448 5 месяцев назад +44

      Honestly I'm concerned about the voice actors ages, I mean even if all original voice actors were to return chances are (assuming it's a long term project) some of the voice actors might either retire or pass away eventually, I mean I don't mean to be a downer but let's not forget that hunter x hunter took FOUR years just to cover 148 episodes and one piece even with good pacing the remake would eventually take ATLEAST 500 episodes and that's literally another decade and since it's most likely not weekly we will have to double that length so basically all voice actors must be down to voice another 20 years and luffy va is in her 60s..

      This version will take decades to finish anyway. The original will be done by many years before this version can catch up. So people will probably continue to watch the original for many years to come to watch the full series. This will help for people who have shorter attention spans or not a lot of time or patience so the new anime will make it easier for them to get into.

      I know people complain about the pacing but honestly One Piece wouldn’t be the giant it is today without it having been a weekly series. I really do think people really under appreciate that fact. Sure it absolutely would have been big but both the manga and the anime making new content nearly every week has keep the series in the public consciousness like no seasonally anime can. the efforts of the animators especially in the past few years have been great, but i don't care as much about that as I care about a properly paced one piece series because people are going to watch toei's version anyway as they will finish before this new version. it's not like the people who watch the toei anime version will just stop watching weekly and wait a bunch of years for the new version to come out lmao this isn't happening those people will still watch weekly. But it's for manga readers like me who can't stand the slop they give 90% of the time with the pacing not a fault of the animators but it is what it is, I don't even watch the anime anymore it's gotten so poor pacing wise. this new version has been needed, fans literally created a fan made one piece cut one pace to try to fix the pacing problems and it's still not perfect. one piece deserves the best we can't make excuses for poor anything when it comes to one piece, poor pacing and lazy animation for a lot of episodes like dressrosa is not acceptable for a series as good as one piece it's just that simple one piece deserves the best quality in everything.

  • @goldmemberpb
    @goldmemberpb 5 месяцев назад +9

    The Wit One Piece could just be early One piece stuff ( East Blue to Alabasta) but those are fairly well paced and solidly animated too for their time. Pacing issues really started around Enies Lobby/ Thriller Bark where they went down to 1 chapter per episode and then post timeskip started going below that and fluctuated quite a bit. The Post timeskip is the era where One Piece seriously needs trimming down. Animation wise, Dressrosa is probably the only arc where it truly suffered. So, yeah, it is just bizarre to see a remake happen while the original anime is still happening, especially because current One Piece anime has been cooking since the Wano and I would argue since WCI.
    There is also the issue of the VAs. They are no spring chicken anymore. You listen to Mayumi Tanaka in early One piece when she was in her 30s and now, it is a world of difference. She can still deliver those moments but for how long? They are all beyond amazing but pretty much all of the SH VAs now are in their retirement age. Since it is a fresh start, new VAs would make sense long term if they are actually going to give us a seasonal, more condensed version of the show. It would still be like 600-700+ episodes if they go 2-3 chapters a episode.

    I would agree with you if One Piece did had not been going on for 25 years. So, the remake is not in conflict with the current version. Just like the live action did not conflict with the OG anime. I am in fact looking forward to a new studio's interpretation of this masterpiece. So long as they do not try to "improve" on the source material (the manga and not the original anime (ie no fillers)), I am very happy to hear this news.

Stuff like the Big Mom's eldest children actually showcasing their power together. That wasn't in the manga but you get way more of the Charlotte family in the anime in a good way. I love One Piece and I think a lot of the character interaction scenes that exist in the manga add a lot for the characters, BUT the story is so long now that I think having a Kai version of the series would help A TON for new followers of the series as well as give a great outlet for original readers/watchers to enjoy the story again without having to take so long to get to key moments again. I hope they're able to accelerate the story as much as possible without removing anything too important

    It's gotta be on the level of Vinland Saga imo. That series, the anime was created by WIT (1st season at least) with SUCH care and details and you could just tell the people working on it loved it and had a deep understanding of it. I want that level of care.

    I love your take on this Roger, i agree with you, id imagine that there really isn’t a “best time” to start up the remake considering how much content it’s going to have to cover, but I also think this was something Netflix decided to spear head due to them wanting to own the IP on their streaming service and provide a definitive version.

    A few things:
    1. This is not Kai. Kai was a re-edit of DBZ. This is more like Sailor Moon Crystal. A completely new adaption.
    2. They didn't give it a date. This won't be out until 2025 at the earliest if you ask me. Also I feel it'll be seasonal. They did say this new project will only cover the East Blue. And if it's good enough, they could re-new it and do a 2nd season covering Alabasta a year later.
    3. I'm more worried for the English dub since it's under Netflix. Netflix are likely to re-cast everyone. They've done it before.

Not only that, WiT is animating this remake and that’s such a good combo. They are the animators for Aot season 1-3 and they did great on that so I have no problems when it comes to animation, they don’t slack off. This needed to happen because nowadays relevancy in anime is based on what is new. When new fans are trying to catch up but see all the hype moments in Wano and Egghead they are going to feel less motivated to get through the beginning because the difference in quality, this opportunity of a new adaptation allows those new fans to not feel left out. They get to experience the journey while this new apadation grabs relevance in the anime community because of the new quality. I am excited of the quality in the upcoming years

    I think the main reason is money. Netflix spent so much money and then recouped it and decided on OPLA season 2. Netflix has found a mountain of money.
    I'm a little concerned about how the OG one piece staff feels, well it will take at least 10 years for the WIT version to catch up to the current arc.

    I think you make a really good point about the timing of the announcement being off, but I completely disagree about the first 400 episodes of the anime having fine pacing. The east blue saga's pacing wasn't ideal, but when the alabasta saga started, it became straight up bad and never recovered. I think people look at how much worse post timeskip has been and believe pre timeskip was great by comparision, but it was still bad. We should have already been at the Wano arc 400 episodes in, not at Sabaody.

    something i was thinking about after hearing the news is that if this is meant to be a remake that removes the filler and tells the story using the manga's pacing, im very curious what the episode to chapter ratio is going to be? Lets say hypothetically they do it something like 3:1? So 3 chapters of manga per 1 episode of anime, that would mean it would only take them 362 episodes (which is still alot tbf by regular anime standards) to reach where the anime is today as of writing! (episode 1088) thats insane to think about! episode 362 is where zoro beat ryuma in thriller bark.

    The best part of this news for me is that people will be more interested in watching One Piece just because they don't have to watch 1000 episodes anymore.
    My favorite channel (Blind Wave) will finally be able to react to One Piece (They said before that it wouldn't be possible to do it with the current anime) and join our fandom, they have already seen most of my favorite anime (FMA, Death Note, My Hero, Mob Psycho 100, Naruto etc), all they're missing is One Piece.
    I want a remake of Tokyo Ghoul, Soul Eater, Naruto, Dragon Ball and Bleach to happen for the same reason.

    I had no doubt that One Piece will get a remake after it ends but this is shocking that its happening now but I guess these things take time and they may be anticipating a 3 year timeline to get it finished. who knows? if it catches up quick enough, they may even stop the current animation like they did with FMA or HxH and shift over to make 'The One Piece' the official anime. If they fix the pacing then it would be a lot less episodes to animate. I'm not sure if they are going to release everything in one shot or have seasonal releases though. It will be interesting. I'm glad I started One Piece with this anime. There is something nostalgic about the art style. Just like how weird it was to see 16 year old Luffy drawn with Oda's current art style in the last chapter.

Hell, their best animator Arifumi Imai is currently a freelancer. So people attributing any of anime done by WIT to the studio are missing the dangers of this announcement and hype culture as a whole.
