Saving Mr Banks is the extraordinary untold story of how one of the most beloved tales of all time, Mary Poppins, was bought to the big screen. The film will be released nationwide on November 29th, 2013. Two-time Academy Award®--winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks star in the film which will be closing the 2013 London Film Festival with its European premiere on October 20th, 2013.
When Walt Disney's daughters begged him to make a movie of their favourite book, P.L. Travers' Mary Poppins, he made them a promise-one that he didn't realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney's plans for the adaptation.
For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulls out all the stops. Armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author doesn't budge. He soon begins to watch helplessly as Travers becomes increasingly immovable and the rights begin to move further away from his grasp.
It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history.
Disney presents SAVING MR BANKS, directed by John Lee Hancock, produced by Alison Owen, Ian Collie and Philip Steuer, and written by Kelly Marcel and Sue Smith. Executive producers are Paul Trijbits, Andrew Mason, Troy Lum and Christine Langan. Кино
Colin Farrell was amazing in this movie... I wish he was recognized like Emma and Tom were.
englandsensation he was incredible!
A masterpiece of a film
I really dont understand how this not being nominated for any Oscars...except......Best Original Score............i mean....really???
initially it got good buzz from all the other 4 early awards, but prior to the voting of Oscar nomination, Meryl Streep suddenly came out, did a 9-minute speech accusing Walt Disney as 'antisemitic' and 'gender bigot' at an award show(NBR), when she was presenting Emma Thompson an award. Thus the Saving Mr Banks Oscar snub, meanwhile Streep's performance in Weinstein movie 'August: Osage County', which was at a weaker position in previous nominations, got nominated by Oscars. Weinstein's movies have a history of doing pre-nomination PR work like this. Other examples including 'The Social Network''s Oscar snub (winner was Weinstein movie 'The King's Speech'), and Jessica Chastain's Oscar snub (Zero Dark Thirty) (vs. Weinstein-supported Jennifer Lawrence). That's probably also part of the reason why Jessica Chastain and Emma Thompson were in the front line of critisising Weinstein's behaviour several weeks ago when the scandal was brought under attention.
My heart would never calm down while watching this film. He was absolutely amazing and it was quite frightening too with the parents. Great Actor.
Disney Creates Dreams who are you talking about
I watched this whole video for Colin
Saw the movie this weekend and LOVED it! It is so very well done, and all the actors are amazing! Don't miss this film, it is not a slow, boring, drag of a movie. It is magical!
Saw it twice last night. Loved it. Some tears will come.
I just saw it. As a former DL cast member (who didn't fall into the character worshiping cult of Walt but saw him as just a talented and flawed man) and knows people who worked with him, I enjoyed Tom Hank's nuanced and respectful portrayal. And yes, the tears did flow -- not a dry eye in the house.
This is now my new holiday movie with a message of redemption.
It's so bittersweet that Diane Disney -- mentioned in the film -- just passed away.
I've seen it twice and cried both times. There was an old man sitting next to me one time and I swear, he started sobbing at one point...full-on crying. I loved the film. Must see Mary Poppins now.
I sent in a suggestion about that film and every one was very good . It bought me to tears cos of the way he died .I have never been able to speak to a director and would love to . Well done to all I will see if I can think of anymore stories for as many actors as possible .
Wonderful movie!!! I saw it today and I love it!!!
I love Emma!
For those two decades, the proud author refused to depart with her precious work in fear of Hollywood's mutilation of it and REPEATEDLY TOLD Mr. Persistent to go 'fly a kite… up to the highest heights'.

Hmmm? Probably making a movie about how Walt Disney destroyed people's lives with his involvement in "Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals" - as long as you don't interfere with Walt's studio making all the money, he's a real swell guy!
Merv Cann it was never proven he was part of the MPAPAI. Only that he knew people that were
Tom Hanks is a good actor but not good in interviews
Loved the movie, but Tom Hanks was basically worthless in this press conference.
