My dad was a gehl dealer back in the day for many years I can still remember when I was a young boy I make many trips with my dad and big flat bed truck to the gehl factory in West bend Wisconsin and picked up new gehl farm equipment when I got old enough he sent me to the gehl factory in west bend Wisconsin to pick up new gehl equipment I thought I was in heaven that was a big deal to me to get new equipment by myself the people at the factory treated me like a king loved to go there I really miss those days
The 301 in the 806 sips gas like the Queen sipped tea, compared to the Chop King with the big 427 Waukesha in it. In heavy corn with the three row, you can expect to fill the 50 gallon tank twice a day. Three times if you work late into the night. Can't imagine the Jimmy was that far behind. I think it was the 4/71, so add oil & antifreeze consumption to that, too. 😁
In name only, they were bought out or sold to, I can't recall which, a bigger company and a line of equipment they excelled at manufacturing was shelved.
Those stalk choppers looked like they did a nice job. I wonder why dad and Uncle Tom didn’t chop their stalks? I remember the plow plugging on corn stalks more then not.
Probably the expense of a piece of equipment that was used but once a year. Also the cost of another past over the field. I do remember plowing cornstalks being troublesome.
dwight is correct. Many farmers weren't going to spend an extra penny if they didn't have to. As for the stalk choppers, they did a great job! They still have something of a following, too. Saw one at an auction last fall, in rough but good mechanical shape, that brought $760 before fees & tax. That's also the cost of a new set of knives for it.... which it badly needed. The same auction had two Chop-Alls & four heads in very nice shape. Those followed me home for half the price of the stalk chopper. The prices at that sale were all over the place. Still kicking myself for passing up piles of original Gehl parts, but I would have needed to build more storage for what was there. But they were cheap!!!! Argh! Lol!
Please correct me if I'm wrong but here in the UK The company was known as Europa Gehl.. Local farmer had one of their choppers in late 60s early 70s..
You know. I think I’m gonna make a Farmsim 22 mod of the pull type chip king. It’s gonna have a cutter bar, two-three row corn head, and a bale shredder! Either the gehl if I can find enough pics or a fox super 1000
I can help with some pics of the pull type Chop King if you don't have the brochures already. There's also brochures for the self propelled & I can get you pictures of mine if you would like to go that route too.
@@30acreshop_time No prob! I can do it one of two ways. Either post the pics in a video here on YT or I can post them on the tractor forum & then you could save them if you wish.

I would have heard it for being reckless, that's for certain. I figured they were putting the irons to her, so they can show off the might of their machinery.
I might be mistaken but aren't farmers nowadays using bunker silos instead of the traditional tall and round silos?? Do modern farmers hire a private company that owns silage choppers (Claas comes to mind) to do the silage chopping?? The last 2 years in Minnesota have been drought full! What is the point when a farmer realizes the crop is $hit and needs to be scavenged as silage?? How much money do farmers get from Govt. subsidies?? A certain youtube farmer didn't answer my questions...I'm a curious $hit...
Private custom operations often harvest silage if the farmers don't do it themselves, not the machinery company. The "government payments" are really just a guarantee to the insurance company in case of widespread damage that exceeds the premium paid by the FARMER.
Government Subsides varied from year to year. They intend is to keep farmers in business. The porpoise of government funding is to guarantee an adequate food supply for everyone. Thi the supply and demand of the food supply ai the grocery store.

It was a sad day when Gehl stopped their Farm Equipment line. They made great machines.
This was the golden era of farming, so much better than today.
That was an impressive silo then, 30x90! I was actually thinking that 806 gas on the Chop king burned up all the fuel to light off the energy crisis!

I have a diesel 806 she’s amazing on fuel ik it’s comparing apples to oranges but still
Pretty impressive today
Very cool history in action
They made so much neat stuff back then.
Great video! I remember all that farm equipment.
I've watched this 3 times and I really enjoy it. I was impressed with how the Gehl machinery seemed to work so effortlessly. Thanks for this video
Ikon running those flail mowers with out a cab insanity LOL
Not even a guard! And they called that living!! LoL!
Love these vintage advertising films. Certainly sold me on the brand - seems to be some very sturdy kit, nothing flimsy about these machines
I miss Gehl equipment. Sad they went the way of most others.
They didn’t go anywhere. They’re still in business, but ended the ag line of equipment.
In name only, they were bought out or sold to, I can't recall which, a bigger company and a line of equipment they excelled at manufacturing was shelved.
Didn't know it was originally called Gehl Bros. I also didn't realize just how large their product assortment was.

The company was known as
Europa Gehl..
Local farmer had one of their choppers in late 60s early 70s..
The silo was down the road a few miles from me dad talked about Gehl having a demo there I am Jesse. It was about 1960-61
Thank you for the info. Where abouts was the farm?
Nicollet County Minnesota

Originally, there was a light and top of the silo Roof there is another 30 x 90 silo longside this one
I wonder if there are any promotional videos like this for Papec. They filled a similar niche in the market.
There's a little bit of Papec equipment on display in my recent 50's Gehl videos. My apologies if you have seen them already.
All these old videos look like they should have been going half that ground speed,I would've got my ass beat for going that fast

Did he say for more than a century? It’s that old?
The roots of Gehl date back to 1859. So, they're about 108 years old when this film was made & they'd be 164 now.
@@ikonseesmrno7300 wow. I didn’t realize.
Gehl sounds so german 🤷
It is!

Those forage feed wagons are a neat idea. Chop right into the thing the cattle will eat from so you don't have to transfer it every time.
It's a great idea! Feed so good the cattle fight for it. Though, I never thought I would see a fight at a buffet in a tractor film.
