  • Zippo lighter restoration from the Vietnam War Long Binh post. This time I do a full restoration and repair of a very dirty and rusty Zippo lighter that was sent to me to restore.
I actually don’t know anything about this lighter because the person who send it was anonymous, but I assume that part of it is real.
The Zippo lighters outer case seems real enough and was way more damaged and elder looking than the inner part. There was a very vague Zippo brand name in the bottom lighter case with serial number PAT 2517181 (Maybe the 8 is a 0?)
The inner part of the Zippo was surprisingly shiny, after getting some wd-40 rust remover, considering it should be over 50 years old.
If you know anything about this Zippo, if it’s a fake Vietnam war lighter or the real deal then please leave a comment below. I really like to know. Thanks.
The inscription on the lighter was
    VIETNAM LONG BINH 67-68
WE HAVE DONE SO MUCH FOR SO LONG WITH SO LITTLE THAT WE NOW CAN DO ANYTHING WITH NOTHING FOREVER
I enjoyed doing this restoration video and it was my first time doing a lighter repair - and it was a good experience. I know I used some homemade incorrect parts assembling the lighter, you may have to forgive me for that 😉
I really liked the outcome of this restoration. This Zippo ended up way more beautiful and shiny than I expected. So, it’s definitely a keeper.
If you enjoyed my video too, please like and comment. That will mean a lot to me!
Please subscribe if you want to see more cool upcoming restoration projects 🙂
Please also see me turn an antique machete into a beautiful Japanese kitchen knife: • Old machete restoratio...
Thanks for watching my videos. See you next week.
    Warmest regards

The general warehouse of Long Binh is an arsenal located in Bien Hoa, Dong Nai, a General warehouse Long Binh is the location of the war Commander II and the US No. 1 Logistics command, which is also the bomb depot, large American ammunition in southern Vietnam. On Oct. 28, 1966, it was the first attack of the Special Forces Division of Bien Hoa (the name of U1) into the weapons depot of the American Army in South Vietnam. Built from the middle of the year 1965.
Zippo was from 68-69 to the base of the American military in Vietnam. Not only in this war that regardless of the battle of Zippo against soldiers as a soul friend. The soldier not only used Zippo to group the kitchen, which was also used in military tactical notation. For example, it's a way to remotely command the information through the secret from the teams that communicate with each other. Not only that, the Zippo lighter is used as the name tag, the American soldier carving his name on Zippo instead of the missing name tag. My grandparents told me when I let them see this video. But.... the corrosion is fake. It's a brass case, so wouldn't rust like that, no pitting when cleaned up, the cotton inside was really clean for something that would have had to be underwater to corrode like that.
More than likely dipped a nice lighter in a bucket of rusty water and let it dry on there. So really just a cleaning and not a restoration.
A lot of guys do it overseas to get in on the money made from restoration videos on youtube. Even this channel if you look at some of his past videos.
Once you realise it's fake corrosion and know what to look for it's pretty obvious.

    • @Crocophant572

Brass is a red (copper-based) metal, it's nothing like iron. It doesn't "rust", but it oxidates quite easily. The oxidation layer actually protects the metal underneath, so there won't be any pitting for a very long time. Remove the oxidation layer, and you can easily get the metal underneath to look like new. See all those green copper roofs? They're good for a century or more.

Judging off of the third class pretty officer rank on the front of the lighter it's a safer bet to assume he was most likely a navy corpsman attached to a marine division, we spend so much time with the marine corps that we pick up a lot of their saying, and in turn a lot of marines see us as marines in our own right (that is if you're not utterly incompetent at your job when treating wounded marines)
