  • Elements of Turkey’s military have attempted to overthrow the government of President Erdogan. Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, John Iadarola, and Ben Makiewicz, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
    “ISTANBUL - Military factions in Turkey attempted to seize control of the country Friday night, setting off a furious scramble for power and plunging the crucial NATO member and American ally into chaos in what already was one of the world’s most unstable regions.
    Martial law was declared in Turkey, which has been convulsed by military takeovers at least three times in the past half-century. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Islamist president who has dominated politics for more than a decade and sought to exert greater control over the armed forces, was forced to use his iPhone’s FaceTime app from an undisclosed location to broadcast messages beseeching the public to resist the coup attempt.
    “There is no power higher than the power of the people,” he said in a night of wild confusion and contradictory accounts of who was in control. “Let them do what they will at public squares and airports.”

      If you have been reading the news in the past couple of minutes. THE president Erdogan has landed in Istanbul and the remaining rebel soldiers are either arrested or being sieged. SO there is a 99% chance that this is an unsuccessful coup d'etat

      A Khan 1) Erdogan wouldn't want to give any hint of weakness, so his word is nothing.
      2) A few soldiers being arrested doesn't counter the fact that Parliament is under heavy fire, the Ataturk airport is in pro-coup hands, etc.

    BS, Turkey has been helping ISIS. ISIS attacks have been mostly Kurdish areas in Turkey. Turkey has been selling ISIS oil to Europe. Turkey has been accused of given weapons, training and other help to ISIS. All of Turkey's supposed helping in the fight of ISIS has been targeting Kurdish troops (the US best allies in the area and major resistance towards ISIS).

    • @leighfoulkes7297
      @leighfoulkes7297 8 лет назад

      All right, I didn't watch the whole thing till I commented. So was it really Fethullah Gulen that was supporting ISIS and not Erdogan? Was the USA then supporting a guy that supports ISIS over another guy that didn't?

      The US doesn't care about the kurds and Turkey is a US puppet. US is the one who created the Syrian civil war and armed the so called opposition publicly which later turned into ISIS.

    It's not true that the "Turkish Military" attempted this coup because most Turkish soldiers, who were ordered out onto the streets, were lied to by their commanding officers. Once the honorable soldiers realized they were lied to by some of their commanding officers, they left their locations back to their bases and to local police vehicles. _i.e. Most soldiers were not told they were performing a coup, that's why they left their positions once the Turkish civilians told them the truth in person._ *There was a deliberate attempt to make this terrorist coup attempt seem bigger than it was in western media.* There are many videos proving this now. The small fringe minority dressed in military uniform, who chose to shoot and kill innocent unarmed Turkish civilians, *are simply terrorists* and were stopped by unarmed Turkish Civilians, Turkish police, and later the rest of military forces _(who were not fooled)_. Based on reports, this Fetullah Gullen guy and some of his followers appear to be *seriously sneaky terrorists.*

      If there is a martial law in Turkey you bet every house that is even lighlty suspected will be searched and every little thing will be categorized as terror supporter
      Also trials will be quick and probably the people who are prisoned will be lost in the system within 1-2 years.
      So it will be the end of PKK, ISIS and every single extremist element in Turkey.
      Military coup is like a RESET button in Turkey or back to factory settings

      There is money to be made by killing people. Crazy people are not those who kill few. Real crazy people are those who caused the deaths of millions and still no blood on their hands. Country after country, refugees drowning trying to run from death, hunger, poverty to safety. Turks showed few hundred brave man saved millions of people. Let the crazy pay the price and should be an example for others.

      Sikyu 4977
      That is according to your political views and norms; there is no definitive way of political development. Stating "the opposite direction" is such an ignorant way of thinking about politics since politics has no discrete formulas or realities. In some ways he greatly improved lots of things about Turkey. I personally don't agree with a lot of his policies too but that is definitely not a legitimate ground for a military coup. By stopping this terrible action, Turkish citizens, police, media and the political groups have displayed a great act of democracy.
      In your way of thinking, just because I think Brexit will drive UK back, Hollande isn't handling France's national security well or simply Troude isn't attractive enough, the armies in those countries should assume control over their civil governments.

    • @sinancothebest
      @sinancothebest 8 лет назад +1

      Wonderful! It's 2016; lets just acquire military power in countries in which the politicians are dragging their countries in the opposite direction. Err, how many UN recognized were there? Yes yes, thank you; I'd like to order 193 military operations then, thank you. Have a beautiful day. Glory to Arstotzka.

Starting to see cars on the road. Nothing like typical Istanbul but the coup is dying down or dead at this point.. We are gonna try and get out of dodge. frediax10 The majority of terrorists belong to the country that they terrorize. Terrorists want political change through violence. These guys went against the law and are trying to take power through violent means. If they weren't terrorists then they would do it through peaceful means. They have just committed treason and must be put to death because they betrayed the country.

    The beautifull thing about this story is that people went against the military. Did they use guns? No, they went out and march togheter protesting and standing in front of tanks.
    Now this is not a post against the 2' amendament or stuff like that, it's a post about the power of the people, it's about the incredible power that millions of people have even without guns.
