  • Here's the latest splash-worthy news from the Manatee Rescue and Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP)! After several years of dedicated teamwork from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, SeaWorld Orlando, Brevard Zoo, Georgia Aquarium, Clearwater Marine Aquarium Research Institute, Save the Manatee Club, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, five rehabilitated manatees were recently released in their native Florida waters at Blue Spring State Park, a protected warm water site. These manatees were originally rescued as orphans by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Three of the manatees-Lizzie, Squirrel, and MaryKate-spent part of their rehabilitation journey in the care of the devoted Columbus Zoo team! Watch the video to learn more about the manatees’ triumphant return home, thanks to this important collaborative effort.

It was truly beautiful for me to be able to visit the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and see the manatees. I've always had a special place in my heart for them but I'd never seen them in person. And finding out that the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is so dedicated to ensuring these beautiful creatures continue to live and thrive in the wild re-invigorated my dedication to conservation and eco-stewardship.
Thank you, Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, for reminding me of my passion for animals and helping me to figure out the path I want to take in life.
And thank you even more for caring for these lovely animals.
