  • We took a 2020 Ford Expedition Limited Max with a twin Turbo Ecoboost 3.5L V6 on a road trip. We even slept in it over night. Here is our opinion from both my wife and me from top to bottom the good and the bad.

I think that noise might be the parking brake disengaging automatically when shifting from park to drive. That is why you only hear it after you start it.

Craig, I've been watching your vids for a long time--enjoyed them! I've been a used car dealer in Chicago area for 25 years--Your videos are very interesting and educating. None the less This 2020 Expedition video is not your specialty! Maybe I'm being a jerk, but I have'nt disliked one of yours to date! 2020!!?? Who cares?? We're used car guys that have seen it all!! I sell approximately 80 vehicles monthly. 8 approx. retail and the rest wholesale at auctions. After all these years I still love it! I'm 67 and love hitting my 5/6 dealers up daily for vehicles. Getting tough though with new auction platforms. Nonetheless I still like staying busy! Not getting super rich, believe me. but your vids are very informative and enjoyable to watch. We've both been where you started, and believe me, the smaller/lower the nut/ overhead, the larger the profit, and you know as well as I, the $ is made when you buy! Times are changing quickly! Anyways, please stick to your vids that made you great to watch! Do what you want-- Just saying--Plus i love how you toss individual charachters into play! Your grandfather, plus your great helpers! The cool black dude and young lady that have a passion for what you do. Don't know if you watch Netflix, but if you do-- watch Gotham Garage! You'll love it. Sorry for so many words!! Stay safe LB -- Chicagoland Area!!

I have drove V8's of every brand and I would take the Eco Boost over all of them. The interior alone makes the expedition worth it. Every other SUV in this class feels like you are in a cave.
You mention the 6,300 towing capacity. Had you added the heavy duty tow package which changes these rear axle, transfer case, radiator and electronic brake controller you can tow up to 9,000lbs with the max which is way over any of the other brands.
There is nothing wrong with the current generation of Eco Boost if you change the oil like your supposed too. Timing chains have been upgraded and they have had enough years to improve the design to make it a really good engine.
Let me also point out that when I was shopping for an SUV I drove every single one and nothing in this class can match the 400hp and 470ft lbs of torque. When your towing it all comes down to torque.
This is all completely stock, many light modifications can be done to truly unleash the power of the eco boost.
My one complaint with this vehicle is the rear entertainment system which has to be installed in the head rests due to the panoramic sunroof. I opted for no rear entertainment system and we just use tablets.
I should also note that I am 6' tall and I can comfortably access the 2nd and 3rd rows with hunching over just slightly. The headroom and leg room in the second and third rows is amazing and not even comparable to the others.

People get on my last nerve bring up timing chain problems. My 2016 F165 has 79k miles without any problems. Maybe because I’ve used nothing but Motorcraft oil and filter. Maybe because no one has changed my oil but me. So I know all the oil was allowed to drain out.

This is what I'm looking for! We are not big people as in 6' 7" giants but all around the 5'10, 5'11 range. powerlifting, backpacking, fishing, hunting, we are big but not giant big. I have been looking for something to fit our family comfortably also pull a camper and or boat. Once my ol 92 f350 kills over ill get a new truck but for family vehicle this looks like it! Thanks for the perspective!

What you just stated is a deciding factor for me. I’ve been highly interested in the 6.2 Tahoe. If what you said is all true, the expedition max is it for me and the family of 6 total.

a quick google search shows that a Chevy Surburban weighs between 5,586 and 5,808lbs, and the Ford Expedition clocks in at 5,544 lbs, so they are both in the same ball park, maybe it was the tires that was giving up under wet conditions?

I have a fully specc'ed 2020 Expedition Platinum MAX. With the heavy duty Tow package, it can haul 9000 lbs. On the dash where you thought the 4x4 control is is actually the Pro Trailer backup assist. Below that is where they put the trailer brake controller. Mine has two more buttons around the drive mode - 1 to go into 4LO, and another to lock the differential. Below that are parking controls - yours had disable parking sensors, and mine adds auto park assist.
On the centre stack, on mine, there's another button next to Disable Auto Start Stop to activate camera modes, as part of the Ford Copilot360 package.
    Just a couple differences.

I’m not a fan of overboosted 6 cylinder engines. It seems like when it’s hard a work with something in tow the mileage is no better than the 8’s. When lightly loaded, maybe. I’d like to see a tear down of these engines with 200k on them. I can be sold but I’m reluctant right now.

The IRS on the Expedition really cuts its towing capacity.

    • @matthewphillips8124
      @matthewphillips8124 3 года назад +2

This is not accurate. Expedition max can out haul the yukon xl and suburban. Max towing capacity is 9,300 lbs with certain models. 9,000 lbs if you get the max with heavy duty tow package.
Only thing I have noticed with independent rear suspension is the SUV wants to wander a bit more when towing near the max.
Solid axle is definitely preferable for towing, but the ride comfort and ground clearence you gain with independent rear suspension is a trade off I am willing to take, especially when traveling long distances with no towing.

The Limited is the top King Ranch and Platinum are just below the Limited. King Ranch and Platinum are even with each other the styling is just different. I am wondering if that had the high output 3.5 Ecoboost that is also in the Raptor the F150 Limited has the high output Raptor engine in it. As far as the timing chains you have done on Previous Ecoboost I am wondering if those were the 2.7 Ecoboosts engines the early 2.7s had issues with the timing chains the 3.5s to the best of my knowledge did not have the same issue.

and THAT is a problem......sure they produce HP and Torque but what about durability? Eco boosts are known to shit the bed because they have to work so hard to produce those numbers. With all things like materials being equal: 6 pistons doing the work of 8 won't last as long because the wear and tear on the 6 is higher than the 8.
