Imagine just chilling with 1,500 of your homies in a castle when a very confused scout comes to say “My lord, we are being besieged!” Only to find out it’s just a few dozen men. Upon going outside to see they’re actually serious because they built siege weapons but they’re not firing. Okay. Looks like they wanna go through the front door? What is going on? Then you and your 1500 homes raise shields right behind your gate expecting an attack. But after they break the door down they immediately retreat back out to the other side of the bridge, and you see the most obvious killzone setup right outside. Then their commander, naked and holding their banner, comes off his horse and walks to your front line and flips everyone off then runs back outside.
Utterly horrifying shit, the stuff of nightmares, this is what would make me shit myself as a grown man, from the darkest depths of my soul, a greatest new fear beyond comprehension, you irrefutable monster ❤️
This is a very specific example of castle. Aserai and mongol castles have their gates on the left or right side of a semi-circle arch of wall where archers just rain you from all front sides. I'd like to see this work in other castle types, besides a perfect senario of no side walls for enemy archers, a perfect bridge for your shield infantry and a weak wooden gate.
I cut out the parts covering siege preparations and tactics for time, for ballistas you’ll want to build 2-4 onagers and a trebuchet and store them one by one until you have everything built and place the trebuchet first to tank enemy ballista or onager shots then place your onagers to destroy their siege defenses. After you destroy the last one you can attack right away then use this tactic. I believe tier 2 and tier 3 castles have slits in the wall. So if the enemy has archers in their walls it shouldn’t make a difference. Your infantry may be exposed to 2 archer slits but you could use a bow or spear and take them out as they pop out to shoot at your men at the gate. If they have a tier 3 castle with many archers in the walls you can hide your archers until the gate is destroyed and your men form a shield wall in front. The shield wall in front will absorb most arrows for the archers. Most of the time the enemy ai doesn’t use more than 20% of their wall slits to fire.
If yours are up for long enough, they will destroy the defender's siege equipment. Two problems remain though: enemy archers on the walls can still be a pain, and if you're operating a small army, those 1500 will usually be in the field rather than the castle, and coming for you. It's good to see that it's actually possible to prevent your guys putting up ladders now. A generic useful way to take castles/towns at more even numbers is to just immediately run all of your guys to one pair of ladders, where enemy archers manning the other side can't shoot at you. They have height advantage, but you have 2-3x as many shooters for that part of the wall.
I tested that as well, works best if you have a siege tower and can focus everyone on that one side and lure their infantry to the siege tower. You however can’t drag them down the siege towers so will only be able to shoot at their shield wall. Love to see some more tactics being used! Nice find!
@@SpartanIsGaming What I am suggesting is way less effective vs larger garrisons, you definitely need to be more on par with the defenders in unit count and be archer heavy. The main upside is that you can just go immediately after camp though. I think what you're showing in the video can be done w/o offensive siege equipment too by just luring enemies into side-positioned archer fire. Will probably require a lot of retreat/restart siege assaults to get more ammo though, so better for smaller garrison. The killer for me with these tactics so far is when garrison has ~100-200 archers shooting at your guys in a way where the shields aren't reliable. Either I also have a ton of ranged, I have time to make siege equipment, or it's impractical/too many guys get cut to ribbons by militia archers.
Easier tactic is breaking walls down, placing archers relatively close to the walls, destroy archers first, bait infantry out of opening in the wall later. Only used that strat in my Battanian playthrough and it's one of the most broken strategies out there. I'd argue even more broken, than horse archer F1+F3, lmao. Because there always are less archers on the walls than in your party (if you have at least up to 70-100 active archers in the simulation)? so it feels like you're just mowing them down. All arrows they throw at you is simply more arrows for your party to use, lmao. Plus when you retreat (if you get low on arrows) walls doesn't regenerate. Garrison never seems to sally out for some reason, even if they could wreck player party down. Maybe it only works if you have higher tier archers and game has no way to tell that those are archers and would be easily killed by infantry with shields, so it keeps infantry in. ah, BTW, in world map spam onagers first (fire onagers specifically), as soon as they spawn, move them to reserve, then replace them with trebuchet's (again, as soon as they spawn - move them to reserve), when last trebuchet spawns, place all of trebuchets, let them do their thing. If one breaks down, replace with onager. When wall are broken down, along with enemy's siege engines, move all remaining trebuchets to reserve and all of reserve onagers in their place (trebuchets are shit in simulations), and then attack Once you get that strat down, sieges become a joke. It's the main reason why i lost interest in my battanian playthrough and ditched it. Not losing even 1 troop to totally demolishing anything enemy has can become a chore after a while. Though it's incredibly fun at first.
This is hilarious. You taunt them out of the gates and as soon as they realize what is happening they try desperately to get back in. It's like from a cartoon.
Too stop your soldiers from running to the ladders or using siege engines select all units before battle and turn off “designate command” (F3,F5) to regain control.

The ruling clan usually will give castles and cities to the most powerful vassals to keep them happy and strong. The ruling clans will either rarely or never give castles or cities to mercenaries.
Discovered that strat during my Battanian playthrough (welp, i didn't join the kingdom, created mine, called Fianland, guess why? 🤡). Stacked my army with Fian champions and was disappointed at first, because i got wrecked even by much smaller Khuzait armies in open fields, frustrated i went to more civilized non-broken territories and took coupe of castles, where i realize that i could destroy any fief with 0 losses. my tactic comprised of trying to break fief walls (to create an opening, thus i didn't need to break the gates) in world map first and then placing Fians near the walls. first i made them to pick archers off, and when there were no more archers, i went on with tactics you demonstrated in this video, baiting infantry out of the castle. You don't even need infantry, because if you break the contact, they most often just return to the fief turning their backs on archers. Plus even if they reach Fians, it's no big problem, since Fians are perfectly capable of defending themselves. They basically are also a very capable shock troops.
Hey I know this vid is pretty old, but my soliders have trouble with actually attacking the gate? I’ve tried everything from using the “move to location” command, charge, engage, and even played with the delegate command thing but for some reason my men feel like abandoning the inner gate and throwing a party at the bottom of the outer gate ladders
For the love of god, how the hell do you stop your troops from mounting/firing siege engines and raising ladders. I have delegate off and tried having only 1 group of archers in a siege with stop command and fire at will off and they still mount equipment and ladders. I'm getting pissed. This is completely taking me out of the game.
RTS Camera, RTS Command, Fire Arrows, Eagle Rising, Raise Your Banner, and Improved Garrisons. Turn off “designate command” before battle and shield wall then line formation of they still don’t listen.
I picked the most beautiful castle I could find so not the most difficult. If I were to pick the most difficult castle it would most likely be a battanian castle for its long bow militia and fian defenders.
Turn up your battle size limit to 1000 so you can bring all of your troops. Its based on power balance and defenders always spawn with more troops since they are lower tier typically (militia). I had a battle today in life of a gladiator that started as a 500 vs 100 since I was facing all militia with Champion gladiators.
Wait, how do you set this "slow time mode" and get a free look camera in the battle ? How i do that !? Awesome video by the way? Thanks ! Like and sub. ❤
Switch your units into shield wall then back to line formation. If they are running to the ladders make sure to select all your units and turn off “delegate command” before the battle starts.
Thanks for the fast response. Oh think I didn't make my question clearer, what I meant is: how to set grouping again while in battle? Eg. Splitting grp#1 into 2 smaller groups etc
How can any of those commands be done in Console? Anyone know how to split archer groups on console? It seems obviously optimal on PC, but I play on Xbox
@@SpartanIsGaming sorry for the misunderstanding I thought it was in the base game. Thanks though I was thinking the game would be way easier to command that way

My infantry do not attack the outer gate. Only the inner one.
Why is it when I attack a castle and when as a mercenary I lose it to the clan that hired me
The ruling clan usually will give castles and cities to the most powerful vassals to keep them happy and strong. The ruling clans will either rarely or never give castles or cities to mercenaries.
I love you so much
What mod did you use to go to tactical view while in combat?
RTS Camera
What mod are your infantry units from?
My own custom gladiator mod
Ok but fr I made my character be I think an empire and I named him lord farquad
Hey I know this vid is pretty old, but my soliders have trouble with actually attacking the gate? I’ve tried everything from using the “move to location” command, charge, engage, and even played with the delegate command thing but for some reason my men feel like abandoning the inner gate and throwing a party at the bottom of the outer gate ladders
How do you create new regiments while being in battle ?
And how do you manage the fight by air view ? I mean, i only have the FPS and the TFS view.
F3 F5 after selecting a group to split them up I believe. RTS camera for the flying camera
How are you doing the zoom out thing?
RTS Camera on steam or nexus mods
How did your character regain full health after the first enemy charge at the bridge?
idk about pc but the problem with this is that for console if they have more power level then they will sally out and destroy you in open battle?
For the love of god, how the hell do you stop your troops from mounting/firing siege engines and raising ladders. I have delegate off and tried having only 1 group of archers in a siege with stop command and fire at will off and they still mount equipment and ladders. I'm getting pissed. This is completely taking me out of the game.
I Delegate command off then re-place my soldiers down on the battlefield before the battle begins.
How do you get the overhead view during battle to give those commands and break up groups of units? I can’t find that information anywhere.
RTS Camera in Nexus mods or steam workshop
Can you do a video if the defenders have siege weapons
bit late, but you are supposed to destroy the siege weapons before the battle begins.
@@wyattzer Thx , dw I hadnt really played Bannerlord lately and I am gonna play now with your advice
np, btw, archers can be a pain sometimes.
You got any mods running. Im on console and i feel like my guys never listen to my commands. Guessing im not employing them right
RTS Camera, RTS Command, Fire Arrows, Eagle Rising, Raise Your Banner, and Improved Garrisons. Turn off “designate command” before battle and shield wall then line formation of they still don’t listen.
This is the most difficult? What? I thought the most difficult are the Aserai castles with that damn long killzone if you get a battering ram.
I picked the most beautiful castle I could find so not the most difficult. If I were to pick the most difficult castle it would most likely be a battanian castle for its long bow militia and fian defenders.
The defenders have 400 men and I have 1000 in bum army however it only lets me start the attack with 128 and they have the same amount why is this?
Turn up your battle size limit to 1000 so you can bring all of your troops. Its based on power balance and defenders always spawn with more troops since they are lower tier typically (militia). I had a battle today in life of a gladiator that started as a 500 vs 100 since I was facing all militia with Champion gladiators.
@@SpartanIsGaming thanks brother good to know
Wait, how do you set this "slow time mode" and get a free look camera in the battle ? How i do that !?
Awesome video by the way? Thanks ! Like and sub. ❤
I use a mod called RTS Camera for the slow motion and flying camera.
Hi, how do u re-group ur units during mid battle?
Switch your units into shield wall then back to line formation. If they are running to the ladders make sure to select all your units and turn off “delegate command” before the battle starts.
Thanks for the fast response. Oh think I didn't make my question clearer, what I meant is: how to set grouping again while in battle? Eg. Splitting grp#1 into 2 smaller groups etc
F3, F5 (Toggle then transfer after selecting a group 1-9)
How do you do that spectating thing? is that a mod
RTS Camera for the flying camera
Hello, can you tell me why they don't give me every castle that I conquer, I only have five castles
It just depends on your clan power and relations with the king
@@SpartanIsGaming thanks bro
why arent they archers fireing at your infantry
The infantry are being covered by the archers in the back and are too close to the gate to be seen easily.
Hi bro, what mods do you have for the game?
RTS Camera, RTS Command, Fire Arrows, Eagle Rising, Raise Your Banner, and Improved Garrisons
@@SpartanIsGaming Thx
How can any of those commands be done in Console? Anyone know how to split archer groups on console? It seems obviously optimal on PC, but I play on Xbox
Yeah if you hold LB and then press B they are all in that menu
How do you go into like overhead command view during the fight?
RTS Camera
@@SpartanIsGaming would that be what it's called in keybinds?
@@rangergreen1935 RTS camera in steam workshop or nexus mods for pc
@@SpartanIsGaming sorry for the misunderstanding I thought it was in the base game. Thanks though I was thinking the game would be way easier to command that way
Hey spartan i just thought about the fact that the AI will sally out like 40% of the time and obliterate your party
Only if they have 4-5x the power balance compared to you which is hard to do for castles since they usually have all militia.
If the only way the ai can beat you is by leaving their castle walls and facing you on the field that’s a pretty good siege tactic lol.
true lol
@@SpartanIsGaming how did you have all catas and enemy had nothing but also had their walls? i tried to do this in game and all that happened was they kept building siege weapons and kept destroying mine until i just destroyed their walls? I dont understand how to get 4 catas while the enemy has none and also doesnt have broken walls
@@JohnnieKirkegaard94 its slightly cheesy but you can pause as soon as a catapult is built and move to reserve, then repeat for all 4 catapults then pause and put them all back at once and they should destroy siege engines and walls
@@oliashton92 slightly cheesy? ive been doing it not for a little while after watching this video and damn.... it makes the game multitudes easier. I would say it has been more of a cheese effect than even the retreat cheese. before i would have to build and loose at least 10+ siege engines before being able to remove the defending siege engines and even more for walls.... now i build 4 and its instant win
What mods are you using?
why does your ui look so diffrent? Is that an option?
Either from the RTS camera mod or because it’s on pc.
How do you free roll the camera around the battlefield?
RTS Camera

Yes, It is a mod on nexus mods
How did you divide the troops in the middle of the siege?

@@SpartanIsGaming thanks
How do you fly around like that mid battle?
RTS Camera on Steam workshop or nexus mods
How do you get Spartans warriors
You can add Spartans to your campaign with the “300 Sparta” mod through Nexus mods.
How do you make your units attacks objects (like gates) through RTS Camera? I always have to switch back to normal mode, run up to the objective I want them to destroy and command them to attack it. Then I can go back to RTS cam.
You can run up to the gate and manually tell your soldiers to attack or use RTS command
@@SpartanIsGaming
I know I can do it manually but I don't know how to do it with RTS command
Aren't these modded units?
Defenders are Dryatics from the Eagle Rising Roman mod and the Gladiators are from my own mod.
On console I cannot make my troops attack the gate
Can we command our artillery
Only with RTS command which allows you to target formations or by using onagers/trebuchets yourself.
Bro are these legit units and how do you control your units like that, is it a mod?
Dryatics are from the Eagle rising Roman mod and gladiators are from my own mod. RTS camera/command is the big one for unit control.
@@SpartanIsGaming Thank you for a quick response bro, amazing that you can create your own mods, i just got into this game and i'd love to mod it, maybe you can share some tutorials with us, thank you
