Wouldnt it be more effective is you edit the intake valve en use that for your steam intake than the sparkplug intake? When the exhaust valve opens the steam for coming from you bougie Just goes out the exhaust port
If you use the intake valve for the steam inlet, then you are limited to very low steam pressure, as it will push the valve open. Yes, this design "looses" some steam during the exhaust stroke, but the simple mechanical efficiency causes it to wind up super fast. RPM = HP.

You could also capture the steam and re condense it to save water, also add the re condensed water to a preheater that wraps around the engine before being fed back to the boiler, effectively cooling the engine and preheating the water at the same time.

The 70% lost energy in a gas powered engine is in the form of heat that could be used to power a boiler with exhaust heat after the cat that is actually hotter than a open flame which could be used as recaptured energy but it depends on torque output of the steam engine? A 1900's model Stanley Steamer had 800 FPT per 1 revolution which is insanely good power. How much power can that small engine produce?
The pressure is regulated by how much fire you have going. Any excess is bled off by a hand valve or relief valve. The test boiler is not that efficient as seen, with much of the heat (open flame) escaping. Running as it is in the vid, I think it's doing about 2 hp. I believe the Stanley ran off around 500 psi, which will give you LOTS of power, no matter what application you use. Thanks for watching!
I believe that is an old lawn mower engine. He must be using the cam and valves because it appears to be a 4 stroke. Most steam engines deliver power with every stroke
I was thinking of using 1 or more 5 ft tall oxygen bottles from oxy acc torch for my boiler my thoughts were they are super thick, designed for high pressures.? Would love to hear your thoughts
Just do a LOT of research on boiler design. The main thing, is that regardless of how thick or strong, there always has to be water behind the area of the boiler being heated. The boiling water acts as a coolant to prevent the steel from reaching temps where it looses it's strength. Even an oxy bottle will loose strength very quickly above 700 degrees F.
It depends on the load / steam pressure. The fastest you see it in the vid is at about 70 psi, and freewheeling. I switched over to turbines, but one day I'll get back and do some more experimenting with a DC motor, drawing different wattages at different pressures.
solar water heaters on a hot day will produce steam, if you combine it with it you do not need to heat the water. I am planning to build one with a solar water heater.
Solar water heaters are awesome. If you're talking about pre-heating the feed water, prior to manual injection that's a good idea. Anything automated however, would be restricted by Pascale's Law. Around 500 watts If he used both valves on that engine or build a MUCH better engine like a rotary vane or small turbine, then maybe 2000 watts. I really like this boiler because its very unlikely to explode and is very easy to use. a larger water drum " bottom big tube" would be helpful. just remember a boiler feed pump is needed for this type of boiler so water level is sometimes hard to maintain. Would be more efficient if you added a superheater loop. Good start tho
Yes sir, I actually tried that, but it didn't seem to help. You can see we're getting some nice, un-condensed exhaust at about the 2:00 mark. The new boiler will have an enclosed firebox, and I may try the loop then. Thanks for watching!
@@gwseymour dear sir, I have few questions regarding this, it would be great if u can help me out. Whatsapp 7991283356
Please hook an a 12v alternator i wanna see something. I wanna see if it can charge battery
It prefers a small PM motor. I switched my energy to turbines for now. See the link to the turbine charging a battery in the description of this video. Thanks for watching.
Nice... Pls where can I get this steam engine to buy? Thank you in advance
Thanks for watching! I have posted 4 instructional videos (link in the vid) for converting a gas to this steam engine. It's fairly easy, and much cheaper than buying one. My energies have now switched to turbines. My next turbine (soon) will produce way more power than the reciprocating engines, and use less steam.
Gotta wonder what the cylinders look like after a year of running.
Probably ok, if cared for, like any other engine.
Does it have enough torque to spin an alternator or generator?
It would do a 300 watt DC motor. I have spun up an alternator, but I had to disconnect it's "brain" and load it myself with a potentiometer.
pretty cool! - Idea: Do it with an impactdriver + caralternator 12 V ..
Vid soon with instructions and alternator. Thanks!
very good
Thanks!
Very good
Thanks!
@gwseymour: Could you please make a video tutorial?
Hello! Do you think it is possible to convert a gas engine in a generator to steam? Thank you.
Certainly, but don't expect the same HP.

How big of a generator could that run?
Around 500 watts If he used both valves on that engine or build a MUCH better engine like a rotary vane or small turbine, then maybe 2000 watts. I really like this boiler because its very unlikely to explode and is very easy to use. a larger water drum " bottom big tube" would be helpful. just remember a boiler feed pump is needed for this type of boiler so water level is sometimes hard to maintain. The good thing about steam is its reliable and FREE. you can use the exhaust to heat your home or shop! 🤗
Going back in time
How long can it run for on that tank ?
I've always wondered about putting the steam (pressure) supply into the spark plug hole... Are you only using the exhaust valve?
Yes. The intake is dormant, and the exhaust cam is modified to open on every upstroke.
I'm gonna try that, seems the ones I've seen done this way turn more RPM, considering making mine a uniflow design as well.
Is there a way to easily feed oil into the cylinder?
How often does it need to be lubricated?
I used a unique method that I describe in one of my instruction vids (link attached). This requires a few drops every few minutes. ruclips.net/video/dA3IQQcOgsY/видео.html
All you need now is a Generator ..for electrical power ..
Thanks so much it help
You know me
My name is Josh
Nice! How many HP? ...or kw?
Thanks! HP depends on the steam pressure. I'd guess 1 - 2 at 60 to 80 psi.
Hi, it is james watt machin😄😄😄
He was way more efficient than I. Thanks for watching!
Why u not change phase of steam and reuse as hot water it will decrease fuel.
The steam isn't clean. It picks up a residual amount of oil passing through the engine. Thanks for watching!
How many rpm can it produce, bro?
That would be relative to the input pressure and load. I wouldn't freewheel it much past 3k.

What stoppes oild from getting into the engine oil
.
Here you go! this si the last of a series of 4 instructional vids.
Good job
But very inefficient because of the short stroke .
Thanks. It was just for fun.
Nice 👍
Thanks!
Talvez 300 - 500 watts.
