Zram with a good compression algorithm compress data into the same ram. It create a ram disk in the ram to hold the compressed data for decompressing when needed. It does slow down phone when u use your internal storage as zswap. Ive allocated 4gb of my ram as zram to store the compressed data and it gave me better performance. It never swaps and compress data directly to internal your storage.
this video has been uploaded for almost a year now. it's so detailed. and the guy speaks english very well 😊 kudos sir! thanks to this info of yours now I'll be turning my virtual ram off. 😊
Thank you for the very informative explanation of the Virtual Ram! I have never seen it before, and was a little confused when I seen the 'Ram Plus' in my Samsung s22+ settings. I appreciate the vid, cheers mate! Much love from Australia 🇦🇺
For virtual ram or pagfiles there is also one misconception. You have to set virtual ram or page files according to physical ram in your phone or PC. If you have 6 GB ram in your phone than you have to set ram plus or virtual ram or page files 6×1.5=9 so 9 GB you have to set. Whatever physical ram your have on phone or PC, you have to set virtual ram or pagefiles multiply by 1.5, in ram plus you can get only 8 GB which kind of fishy I find as lot of users has atleast 6GB version of android phones.
@@unsavedprogress1419 so true. And this can cause many unspected issue. Only dev knows how this works. I try tweaking and study about paging file until i realize that this is a mess.
Very nice explanation. I turned it off on my phone as I'm going to use this for 2-4 more years. I monthly change downloaded videos (30GB+) on my phone so I don't want another thing decreasing my storage's life span.
Thank you for this, you have explained this better than any of my teachers and friends. I dunno where you're from, but you definitely are an incredible teacher and I hope you keep doing this 🙌🏻❣️
Yep, that's true. I didn't mention it since Pagefiles are basically swapfiles which is kinda different from swap partitions. I can do a detailed video talking about the differences between swapfiles and swap partition if folks are interested! ✌✌
@@GuidingTechEnglish Yes please do it, also I wanna know wheather creating virtual RAM (in pagefiles) will affect the life of harddrive in Windows like it does in Android, I think it will right.. at least on some level..?
Depends on your work. If you just use the virtual RAM for browser (storing tabs), it will help. If you use it for big games, it won't help, because the speed of the virtual RAM is as fast as the storage's speed, which is significantly slower than real RAM.
Bro what is ramless screen.... because when I contacted realme support team they told that realme 7 pro has a ramless screen so they cannot update the customization of Always on Display.
Hi. Typically modern displays have their own flash memory (referred to RAM for the panel) which it uses to access data. This data is basically the pixels that need to be displayed, and much more. Traditional displays do not have a RAM of their own, and are thus called RAM-less displays. The issue here is that since the panel used on the Realme 7 Pro is RAM-less, it always needs to access the RAM of the phone. This brings the lock screen into an active state, which is why AOD can't function properly. Realme India has promised an update on this with some software patches, so let's see if the company can figure out a way around this. Hope that helps! Cheers! :)
@@GuidingTechEnglish hi i learned that i can use pagefile on Android without root my pot lx 1 have 3gb physicall memory and 3 gb virtual i can use more apps same time and more fps in games
Really good video , for me I turn of zram bcuz I have 8 gb of ram ( in my opinion any phone above 6gb ram which is using a custom rom doesn't need zram )
Well, i think we shouldn't use our devices internal storage as ram, if we really want to do that, we better purchase a powerful sdcard so when its lifespan ends, we can throw it and purchase a new one, thats a right thing according to me, we shouldn't end our phones internal storage lifespan too early😉
Companies are not very honest about this feature. Android knows how to manage memory, and depending on which phone you use, it should be optimized already. Ram extension is not all that grand, especially with flash memory's volatility.
Thank you for explaining why the extension ram was killing my phone. I had problems with my phone, people told me it was because i turned on the extension (i had no full on idea how ram works) i turned it off and it's well now. I looked you up to figure out why it was happening. From your explanation i understood that i was technically speeding up my phone's aging.
Does zram affect the cpu perf when gaming? I have updated my hot 10s to latest May patch(v410), and I noticed a sudden rise in heat, a minimal fps drop in gaming but not that noticeable, only on long term gaming, (prolly after 30mins)
Thank you. No seriously, how is everyone happy about this gimmick? This will affect all of us negatively, if companies dont give a switch to turn this off in layer versions. Ios does a better job of managing resident memory size, but its not revealed. I am not a fan of apple, but they do a damn good memory management with 4gb ram.

Right 😁😁 i m still using it
yeah but internal storage back then wasn't as fast as lpddr4 ram. Now, we are approaching that speed and thus it's being officially implemented

Should I turn off extension for my Poco x3
How much will it effect the lifespan?
Thank you. That was helpful.
Does turning off memory extension (virtual ram) increase battery 🔋 life?
Possible because it doesn't need to access the internal storage all the time that cost battery reloading the app allthe time.

Lol zram has nothing to do with cpu performance. If your cpu sucks or your system sucks then it SUCKS
Yeah encoding and decoding for zram will use cpu performance. Hence it will make your phone heated and battery will drop faster
