- Tag team bobcat and mini merlo unloading the straw this morning tidy wagon Scania beast, don’t know the price but we need it so stunning golden beds for the jersey calves come summer, how much was the three phase electric and the rules around underground cables and red ducting.
Massive massive tidy up as we have fallen behind this last few weeks, Roy gets on chopping wood for the biomass boiler..
The pit falls of putting yourself on RUclips and how to act responsibly.
The jersey cow deal falls through yes it was a massive step back but now its happened I think we realise how much of a stress it was causing found some more cows so fingers crossed for those.
in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve
I will be taking you all along for the ride so hit that subscribe button and see you every other day for farming vlogs.
I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Just found your channel - and LOVE IT!!! I've backtracked a little to watch the building of the shed and find out about your beautiful jersey cows. Thanks for the hard work you are putting in to produce these videos.
No, thank you!x
I love your hair Charlotte ❤❤❤❤❤
That was a great video of your cattle on the farmer Charlotte your so busy on the farmer with your cattle Charlotte ❤❤❤❤❤
Great video Charlotte! Roy’s was right best place for the cables are underground! The good old nodding donkey to knock posts in 😂
Great vid Charlotte, great to see the yard looking ready, make sure rats don't nibble yr drawstrings...🤪
You are exceedingly naughty... that look.... double ended screw... 😳😘
Charlotte. Get in contact with the funky farmer. He has managed to CGI Harry onto his vlog. 😂😂
I’m glad the cow deal falling through was a god send for you as when I seen this pop up I thought I was going to see a sad Charlotte. Thank god you’re still that happy smiling person. Loving all your work
Oh we were the morning of the Agrileader conference I came home at 8am instead of staying for the day but everything happens for a reason doesn’t it x x x x x
@@charlotteashleyfarm I don’t think a little hiccup would stop you and Roy from completing your latest project. You seem very down to earth and hard working. I wish you all the luck with everything both of you do. Looking forward to tomorrow’s video already 😂
Excellent update Charlotte - things are progressing very nicely
Thanks Charles x x x
Nice 👍
I want to see how that mounted saw blade works on the tractor! Wow what a weapon!
Ha ha ha it’s an old girl
Hi Charlotte I can remember when i worked on a farm we new when the health and safety guy was coming so we hid the old dangerous machines well away from the farm but we still used them in a sensible and safe way when needed, i have a parmiter post rammer on my bobcat great simple machine to get into difficult places, roy.
Just love to see a dairy cow video's from a ex dairy farmer who sadly cannot do my job i loved we milked 300 goldern Guernseys beautiful cows that turns milk in to promising profit could you consider these cow's who really want to work turning milk in to the farm and a fabulous golden milk just a thought ❤
so pleased that the cow deal falling though has not caused you to many problems, and indeed may have helped
Yep hope so these new ones are exciting animals and on more reasonable terms
If the pin holding the bucket on makes you worried, don't Google how the engines are held onto airliners 😂
Another good video Charlotte, underground for the electric is a good move. Sorry to hear the deal fell through for the Jersey cattle, but things do happen for a reason and it is usually for the best.
Great video Charlotte
And well done to you on the safety stuff it's nice to see someone taking it seriously and if videoing makes you think twice then that's a good thing.
And good for you with the kids and farms I've seen some pretty frightening things with other RUclips farmers and kids
Shame about the Jersey deal but sounds like it's for the best hopefully this new one will work better for you
Having had experience with jerseys on 3 robots. I would recommend out of parlour feeders at the opposite end of the shed and only feed perhaps 20% of their concentrate (if any) through the box to encourage cow flow in the shed. I know that every farm is different, but this really helped us increase our milkings per day. All the best!
I’m screen shotting this and will look into it thank you so much for your advice we are very new to all this and anything we can learn we will x x x x
A long time ago we had a Sambron 4WD rough terrain forklift; Great fun. Farmer got a bucket for silage and had tines (14) made that were thicker than my arms. Took that along the road many times but that was back in the 70's. I think you'd get life imprisonment for that now Pleased you are happy and sorted on the Jerseys.
Yes Roy ❤😂xx loving farm life brings bk my youth x❤
Superb username 😂😂👍👍👍
Another good video Charlotte
Unfortunate about first lot of Jerseys hopefully u get your money back but glad u got replacements sorted
Oh we already have it back the middle men were fantastic and just as annoyed as us
@@charlotteashleyfarm that brilliant ugot it back hopefully everything works out better for u then it would be a god send it happened
That double ended screw was for attaching a finial to the top of the pole .the finial was to deflect rain from going down the end grain and causing rot, but most rotted and fell off and we were told to remove any we found as they were a falling hazard
We should ALL be open to receiving advice/pointers from others, esp. regarding health, safety and/or wellbeing. We can all learn from others, as the way we've done things for umpteen years may not be ideal and we might not be fully aware of all the risks.
It's about HOW others give advice to others. There's no point being high and mighty and/or preaching to others 'cause tomorrow it might be you that can learn.
I couldn’t agree more every day is a school day isn’t it
Best having buried cables. Better than getting too close to a 33000 volt overhead wire with the telehandler.
Oh god that would be scary I heard of a lad the other day who got trapped in the cab
I worked as a student at Nursey in Norfolk. One chap had hit an 11kv overhead wires with an aluminium irrigation pipe, he lost his right hand and all his toes where his metal toecap had melted as the power went through him. 4 months in hospital before he returned to work 6 months after the accident. 😊
I've just got home from work tarmacing all day, The shed build is looking awesome you and Roy are rockin it , you always make an old man like me very happy, love you both long time💪👍
Awwwwwww Michael I love that so much honestly that makes me happy and makes the effort worth it :)
I have no photos of when I put in three phase in 2006.on my own land . I did it with a neighbour, I negotiate the wayleave and did the digging of 500m of 11KV and 250 m of 415V . It cost nearly £ 19,000.
The first time I installed 3phase on land I rented it cost £278 in 1996 but there was a pole and transformer already in the field .😊
Roy is correct cable’s better under ground in ducting. Great update as usual, keep them coming.
Really enjoyed that one. Keep them coming. Witchy.
Hello my lovely lady hope your well tonight
@@charlotteashleyfarm All good thanks, really busy in the charity shop business.
Sad about the original jerseys, i thought something would give with spring basically here and the build, robots, infrastructures still got some way to go- defo best not to rush, builders and having dairy cows about doesnt work well, stones on road ways, noise upsetting the newly arrived cows. Good luck and fingers crossed now for it all to be finished for a bit of late summer grazing???
Hi Charlotte, great teamwork moving the straw and its good practice to bury as many cables underground so they are out of the way. The area beside the big shed is all cleaned up and ready for the new road. Roy organising the phase three electricity a while ago was a great move which now saves time and money now. Over here we use stock agents to do the dealing between the buying and selling farmers so it's all above board. They take a small percentage to cover the paperwork. Will you be able to get your £10,000 deposit back from the other farmer? Thats a lot of £'s of dairy stuff you will have to buy anyway. Another good lesson talking on the best practice needed around the farm to protect all workers. I love your style of some sensible stuff mixed with some humour. Chris from Victoria, Australia 🇦🇺.
Yes it was with an agent thank goodness that were brilliant about it all and literally the next day had it back to us :)
Loved the double ended screw face 😂
Bahahahahahhahahaha I couldn’t help it
Thank you for the Info . I just like seeing you bouncing on the Tractor 🚜 😊
Ha ha ha there’s loads of tractor action todya
Thanks 👍
Hit and hope post knocker 🙂 great video must be very exciting as it comes together.
Double ended screw Charlotte 😅😮, Roys right allways put electric cables in the ground safe than sorry. Shed is coming on nicely. 😊
Great video as always Charlotte
Thank you!! 😊 and thank you for always watching Ian x x x
Jolly good. Not even my cows/farm/ business . But I had a little worry😂
In aus private contractors put the cable in. Glad you got a diff option for jerseys hope it works out
Hi Charlotte, my husband used to go with his cousin who used to work for Tom Carrick when it was the ullswarter herd ?,many years ago, keep up the great content
What a small world it is who’s your cousin I love that we have remembered him Roy used to go help his nerve with her Suffolk sheep

I hope you got your cash back of that deal .yep how its all chainged now i think back to when i was a kid on tractors trailers and all sorts of things how dangeres it all was but hay iam still here today people have no common cense some times eney way lovely vid tar
Yes we did the auction were superb with us
@@charlotteashleyfarm thats good to know glad to hear tar
Wow nice clean up you have been busy bee's haven't you and well done 👏, and the price of that cable I would want it lighting up so I could see where my money was 😂😂 loved the video and enjoyed how health and safety is all around farm life ❤ x
Sorry to hear that the deal has fallen through. Regards from Ireland.
When I worked on the farm for my Dad, back in the early 70s we had a visit from whatever health and safety was back then. The farm failed everything and a short time was allowed to make it safe for employees. Dad latched onto the employees bit. Made me a self employed partner and just kept the workplace a death trap. 😂
HA HA HA HA HA THIS IS HILARIOUS and such a farmer thing to have done
Goodness how things have changed, I was driving tractor when I was eight years old. Mind the tractors were much smaller then( MF35 ) but probably much more dangerous. Sorry to hear the deal for the Jerseys fell through but hopefully the next one is better.
What you need is a nice herd of dairy shorthorns. That would make the farm. Them grass rats don’t have resale on the calfs
Yes but our milk price is amazing compared to other people I’ve asked so it’s swings and roundabouts
@@charlotteashleyfarm 45ppl were on. Jersey eat just as much as b/w cow. Keep to buying English cows. As non uk cattle don’t have a very good cull price.
Great video today ,love the big clean up job ,I am all about safety but I am always the first to take chances ,😂,fricking eye injuries are are worst ,and one of the worst I had was a 14 pound sledge hammer head came off its handle and smashed me the mouth while I was holding a stake ,it to this date I still get headaches over it ,35 years after ,I rarely wore gloves I got concrete burns etc ,,I always over lifted all my life and only today got referred to a spinal dept in a big city hospital 😂😂😂god why didn't I listen to my mam 😂😂😂😂
Oh my goodnessssss you should listen to your mum 😂😂😂😂😂
I drove along the A66 last week on the way home from a short holiday (direction Scotch Corner towards Penrith, ultimately to NE Scotland). Was a bit dissapointed though, no celebrity Charlotte to be spotted and I did pay close attention!
You should have called in 😂😂😂
Add some more string onto the end of the communications duct. It will be too short once you open the coil.
We payed 125euro/ton delivered to our yard in the Netherlands from the north of France. For wheat straw. The same as last year and the year before, even though last year was not the best weatherwise like in the uk.
great video never lt the tha tail wag the dog
Nice vedo❤❤❤❤❤❤mam

Hey Rita hope your well x x x
Cracking vid and very informative
Where you selling that lovely Jersey milk
Ice cream / vending / farm gate jobby
Happy days from west wales 🏴🥛👌
It’s going to grahams dairy’s x x x
Are there any grants available to install solar. Harry Metcalf (Harry's farm) installed it, seems pleased with the output.
Nice video as always from one ex dairy farmer to another can i ask you have u thought of golen Guernseys a fabulous milking cow who would work well i used to work with 300 of them yes using robots yes they fitted as good as a black and white dairy cows just a thought there a little bigger then a Jersey cow please tell me what u think you think ❤
things often happen for a reason, must be super annoying for the deal to fall through - but sure it will all work out for the best.
I really hope so these are in Lancashire so much closer to home x x
Yeah I am sure
And talking of best practice - Have a word with Oli 😉
3phase now probably costs 3 or 4 times the price.
When you were doing cement work in the new shed I am sure you talked about the red electric pipework, 3 phase also in a few other previous videos
I know people don’t have time to watch me blathering on everyday 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
danger never takes a day off
🤣 i have to confess we've still got one of those hit and hope hammers. I hate the thing but I've not managed to break it yet!
We used this one up until maybe two years ago when we got the other but it’s always terrified the life out of me
double ended screw i was thinking that then you said it l
If you want to get a string through a cable duct that is clear connect a vacuum cleaner over one end and feed the slack string in but hold onto the end. If it is a very big duct you will need a big vacuum!
Ha ha ha does that really work I’m going to try it… Roy’s gonna be like why is the Henry hoover on the building site?
I would put a draw string on the cable as well when pulling it in. It wouldn't be the fist time that the cable comes adrift when pulling it in and the draw string needs pulling back.
I thought it was a job for the local ferret😀
If shipping wouldn't kill me I send you a set of bale spears for those bales.
What’s one of them I’m going to look now 😂
We had 3 phase in since early 80s Now we have soler panels connected to each phase.
Ohhh that’s interesting we will be looking when we have saved some money x
I hope you get your deposit back.....
Yes the guys who are acting as middle men were absolutely brilliant
I sate on my dads lap when i whos just 3 yr old on the trater
My favourite❤
IAN YOUR EARLY but not first 😂😂😂😂
@@charlotteashleyfarm oh no, but am I the first tanker wan@er operator
O pure❤ like me mam n DAD OLD SCHOOL ❤
That's annoying about the deal falling through if you'd paid a deposit and shook hands on it, but if the other herd is a better option then it's for the best.
Think everyone, those on RUclips and those not, should lead every day thinking what's the best practise, what if HSE are watching etc etc, safety has to come first even if some of the laws are maybe a bit outdated. I was reading your favourite forum this week about children on farm machinery, barely anyone seems to stop their kids going on tractors - with many even teaching their kids how to drive the tractors at a very early age.
It’s crazy i wont let mine near to be fair!!!! BUT I do disagree with the rules around kids on tractors they are safer than on the floor in my book but that doesn’t make a difference to it being against the law 😂😂😂😂
@@charlotteashleyfarm The law was written years ago with older tractors in mind, they're safer in the cab next to you where you can see them! Believe part of it is about young kids not distracting you whilst you're operating heavy machinery though, it's a tricky one and not every kid is the same. How many wouldn't have got in to farming if they didn't get to sit next to their parents on the tractor? I loved being on the tractors when I was young - let's not mention going from one farm to the other on the main roads whilst sitting on a couple of bales on a bale trailer though 😂😂
Oh the questionable things we have done going down the A66 on fully loaded small bale trailers 😖😖😖
Hi Charlotte are you considering solar panels on cow building roof any time soon
Yes we are very soon actually we just need to save up first
Do u not use de mirrors to see if there is anyone behind you or if it's to come out onto the road
No I prefer to actually look behind me the mirrors are small on that side
Post hammer, it’s up to you to make it safe. If you can’t make it safe you can’t use it.
How would you make that safe?? Curious as it’s a huge bit of swinging lead
@@charlotteashleyfarm exactly the point. Everything is passed back to you, it’s your liability. I suppose you could make it safe if you said it is one person operated and that person has to be in the tractor cab, however we all know that’s not feasible. Or alternatively, you’ll have to wear a hard hat.
Kids are safer on tractors than runnung around not knowing where they are
I agree with this 100%
It's your land and most rules are illegal in my opinion
£40k for the 3 phase seems cheap, compared to some of the new connections I’ve heard quoted.
I know it was expensive at the time but looking back it’s cheap
You’re right about the price rising though. The site where we have our static caravan looked into putting a 3 phase line in and priced it up in 2020 and were quoted £60k. They decided to leave it, but now the quoted price is £80k
have you thought about buying a smaller number of cows say 50/60 to get started with .......the first few days /weeks will be the hardest cos cows are creatures of habit ......as soon as there in strange surroundings with strange people they get very agitated / stressed.......robots are wonderfull things but the cows have to get use to them and the surroundings before it will all start running smoothly... will you get your 10k deposit back??
Yes we have already got it back the middle company who was dealing with it were brilliant can’t fault them at all they were really professional. It’s just what’s available and the right number has come up again we would have taken a smaller amount yes :)
Today's quiz question..... how many times do you say 'so' in this video? 😂
Ha ha ha ha ha SO SO SO SO SO is So the new ERMMMM???? 😂😂😂😂😂 I’m going to count
Iam need job
Not to mention that the highways might be totally empty if all drivers not adhering 100% to the rules of the road were disqualified from driving
Your not wrong
I think it would be too your advantage to go on a health and safety course.most of it is common sense but there is a lot of stuff that helps and for the sake of a couple of hundred pounds it would give you peace of mind and a nice little certificate then you can tell all the experts where to go
I totally agree I might ask farmer network about it they are good with that stuff
I should send Roy on a telihandler course then he would know to reverse down a gradient when loaded I shut up now
Do you get your deposit back?
Yes we got it back the next day
I bet you'd be talking 6070 grand to get it put in today. Then what is the capital city
Oh god it would be crazy money everything has gone up so much
Those table saws are not to be trifled with, they make a mess of soft squishy things
I bloody bet I hate the thing it’s got a moving bed so your always static and a “guard” if you can call it that
Lol interesting use of words (bloody) but very accurate. Moving bench is more than mine had. I’m pretty sure mine was Frankenstein’s monster (homemade) now rests in many pieces in the scrap pile
Hey, kiddo, I paid £140 a tone last week.
I’ll let you know when the bill comes x x x
How much is the straw
I don’t know 😂😂😂😂😂
Cheap cheap 😳
What percentage of people would be disqualified from their jobs for not adhering to the safety rules of their profession 100%?
Literally LITERALLY THIS nevermind videoing it and putting it online
