This in a nut shell, as someone who uses radios to communicate, is why I get annoyed with anyone saying over and out.

Since I also did the shopping and he interupts me in the super market over the phone, I end up buying the wrong thing and he gets upset (we love food and snacks). Then one weekend his college roommates got together with him and he and mom had gotten home really late. The next morning I walked into his room at 7:30 AM saying "Dad, you've got to get moving or we're going to be late for church. That's when he decided to switch to 10:00 mass.

This happened with me yesterday. I was at class and my teacher told me to tell the summary of a story in front of the class. Now, I am quite popular student but also very shy and introverted. Whenever I'm talking, I want full attention. Everyone was listening to me carefully. But my teacher started to talk with some of my friends. I got irritated and stopped talking. My another friend asked why I stopped. I told her they were not listening. So I won't talk. That time my teacher realised and asked me why I stopped. I told her you are not listening and I won't repeat anything. She silenced everybody and listened to me carefully. She never interrupted me during talking since then.

Me and mom do this a lot - but we live in my studio apartment, so we do actually hear each other through the entire apartment, so if either of us are cooking while talking, or either of us need the bathroom asap mid convo, we say "I'm still listening!" while we go to the kitchen or bathroom, and just talk louder to each other

My family doesn’t even make a joke about it. I’ve been fully in the middle of a story and they’ve just left. My sister and I were catching up after we both got back from university and when it got to my turn I was in the middle of a story and my mom just turned to my sister and said something else before they both left. I don’t even remember if my dad was there, he isn’t an active listener anyways but I was just absolutely dumbfounded by the disrespect.

The difference between a strict dad and an abusive dad. I know for a fact that if I ever pulled this, I would get a beating so hard i wouldnt be able to sit for a week because "I decided to be a smart ass." I felt my body tense up just listening to this story.

I remember a professional conduct a survey with teen kids and asked what makes you know that your parents really loves you?
I remember a teen replying to his mom that the reason he knows because his mom would drop anything and everything if he was talking to her. She paid attention to everything he would tell her and that's how he knows.

My dad had a phrase like that, except it was way funnier, it works better in the original German dialect ("erzähl's ma in a Sackerl, i hör's ma später an"), but the translation is "explain it into a bag, I'll listen to it later". Sich a good mental image so it never bothered me much
