I am a direct descendant of shinsakus younger sister. His ancestral home is still kept as a heritage site in Japan. One fact i learned while there is that he was exiled from the clan and was originally buried elsewhere after he died. His remains were only moved when the revolution succeeded. Thank you for this video
I feel like I am lucky that I have found your channel, you talk about certain things about Japan's history that I actually never came across most of the time on my own and whenever I see your content. It makes me feel like I am no longer missing out on the essential details or pieces that make the complete picture, I am not sure if what I said made any sense, but that's how I always felt about this.
I really do appreciate that, I often wonder if people will care about the pieces of Japanese history that aren't mainstream, and its good to hear that some people do!
Kiheitai is also famous for their appearance in the manga and anime, gintama. And yeah, they're based on choshu kiheitai. In the anime their leader's name is takasugi shinsuke.
When anybody can just join the army with as much glory and bravery as the big, well trained soldier class. Then that big, well trained soldier class ought to start getting worried.
Great work! Goes to show how an idea well executed by a relativelly small group can spread and have a great influence untill it ends becoming the norm. Btw, you look really cool with your usual hairstyle and attire but I also liked your style in this video!
I wanted to ask about the better weapons Choshu had compared to the Shogunate during the second expedition. What are geweer guns? Why are they so bad? What kind of minié rifles were used by the Shogunate? Were they muzzle-loaded? Breech-loaded? What are the better, modern guns Choshu had?
The shogunate used British and American Pattern Enfields 1853’s many were from the United States because of the Civil war. They also used the Infanteriegewehr Modell 1842. Both the Pattern Enfield and Modell 1842 were Muzzle loaders and were regular Infantry guns used by the Shogunate. The Shogunate also had Chassepots and Dresye needle guns. These my personal research on the subject

@@JapanatWar never underestimate the amount of information the average individual is willing to absorb simply out of curiosity

Absolutely! Modern weaponry coupled with that was truly the beginning of the end for the Samurai
