You’re not joking at all. I’m a female miner and it’s SUPER hard work and I own and operate my own hard rock mines. I never got into the surface placer stuff even though it’s like much much easier and i simply don’t like the open pit mines where they use dozers and excavators. I just don’t see that as being TRUE mining so yep I just do the hard rock mining. As far as the pants, I go through a pair of pants in about a month! But I prefer wearing those military type cargo pants because of all the pockets in those. I can carry the smaller stuff that I use stuffed into my pockets while I’m climbing up and down my ladders in the mine. Not long ago I found those real heavy duty cargo type work pants that’s made out of a heavy duty denim and is insulated for cold weather. Thier very durable and they cost ALOT more but at least they last longer than just a month or so.
My Great Grandparents were from Kotor Crnagora and migrated to Jackson,Ca . My Great Grandfather worked in the Argonuat mine and died at 27. He is buried at the Serbian Orthodox Church in Jackson in the Miners section.
Since you're in Jackson, swing on down Hwy 49 and hit Angels Camp, Jackass Hill, and Columbia.... you will be smothered in Gold Rush history there.... oh, and up Hwy 4 to Murphy's as well. After travelling the World, the USA, and Canada, I still wound up here.... my home stomping grounds. You will enjoy it.
I was all over that area as a youth ,I was / am obsessed with antique bottles. My mother would go to Murphy's for clay . As I got older my best friends parents had a trailer that they kept year-round, so much native American ,and gold rush stuff in the 1960s
The Argonaut Mine disaster was the subject of an original play called "Gold Fire." The play, written by Laurence Rutter, did four presentations at the Volcano Amphitheater. If you follow our gal, SJ you know that Volcano has a Amphitheater, as she previously so exceptionally reported. After four presentations there, the play moved to the Historic Sutter Creek Theater and opened last night. Commenting on the play, Beth Barnard, who has a role in the play said, "It was such a powerful event in our county's history, and it gives us a chance to do something original."
Hello my fellow Gunderson alum, Sarah. I’ve lived in Jackson for 30 years and my wife volunteers on the cemetery commitee. Lots of great gold rush history in this town and area. Enjoy your visit to Amador County!
I spent lots of time in Jackson back in the day, but never spent much time digging into its history. Instead of Encyclopedia Brittanica, we now have the wonders of RUclips, Google, and Wonderhussy to help us learn about our past. Wonderful video Sarah Jane and thanks for braving the heat in your pantalones to bring it to us.
My boss at a computer company decades ago was a prospector in her free time. After her husband died she carried on, (tough lady),. She'd travel all the way from cachagua in the big sur mountains up to happy camp pulling a trailer,...to look for gold. Love hwy 49. It's been far too long away. Love this series. Cheers. 👍
One of your best and funniest videos! Americans in general know so little of world affairs that it is wonderful to see their edification. By the way, her birthday is Bastille day.
I think folks of all nations will forgive you for giving your best effort to articulate names, places and other words. You are awsome, please continue in standard Hussey fashion and form.
There it is… you are a “treasure” of information…. and a pleasure to catch twice a week … with an infectious presentation that Hewell Houser would appreciate I’m sure…. I am glad I found you, although now I can’t get enough and can’t wait for Wednesday …. Thanks WonderHussy ….
Wonderhussy has done some 🔥 hot stories before but I think this one was pushing her limits. Hope she quickly slipped into a cooler outfit and popped open a cold brew or two. Thanks for another historical lesson. Keep cool, Sarah ❤❤❤
My first thought about the pants even before the video was over, radiation, pollution, dust , protection,HA!!! Another lesson in shut up just listen and learn . Thank you for posting another great adventure video wonderhussy 🎉
A different kind of comment. Noticed the cemetery style is very different than most, interesting. Had a lot of raised concrete plots. Thank you for a very interesting story, as usual!
Madam Pantalon 'sthe third and final trial took a different turn, when an organization of suffragists became interested in her cause, and demonstrated in the streets to support her. She claimed at the jury trial that she was wearing pants when she landed on American soil. The jurors decided that there was nothing wrong with her attire, that too much talk about it was a waste of time, and that it was better to go hunting. Suize was relieved, but to put an end to it at once, she sent an official request to the authorities of Virginia City in order to obtain the right to wear pants. She was successful in her petition, which added to her fame. (from Wikipedia)
You are way more entertaining than the history channel. (even when History Channel used to mean something). Just your story telling, without the history is good...but adding your historical research just makes your content IMHO the best content that can be watched, on RUclips.
Thank you for your information about the missing deceased and information about these mines, May god bless them for their courage and dedication to their endeavors and bless their families for their sacrifices. May God bless their souls and take them to heaven. God Bless them all. I thank them for their service and sacrifice! Future generations are greatful or will be greatful for them .
No way, some of her old old ones are the best when she was starting out, mush love wonderhussy, I like when she goes into those far out desolate locations, like some mining cabin or some alien landscape, that one where she says she likes mushrooms on her adventures, the canyon with all the weird topography
Excellent tribute! You are one classy person! Thank you for your hard work and insight in your presentations of the truth about our nation and past history!!Bravo !!!
great episode, my grandparents were laid to rest in that cemetery, and I have visited it in the heat too. You did a great job with this one, as always.
Even in the 50's-60's of the 1900's my aunt wore a mechanics jumpsuit, and that was totally unusual, she was a neat lady, actually she was my dads cousin, but since she was older, we called her aunt.
Wonderhussy - hi! you're videos are fantastic and I wanted to thank you for reminding me where I need to be! The desert! I thoroughly enjoy your quick wit and refreshing attitude, its awesome seriously. The world needs more Wonderhussytude! Please, never change!
I used to live in Jackson. It was so nice to see it again.that building wasn't there when i lived there. The wheel was opened. Glad to see they cleaned up the cemetery. The minors were in brick monument which were broken and fallen apart.
I so love these educational adventures with you Sarah !! When I have some extra money I would love to buy you dinner !! I think that’s the least I can do ❤
I usually watch your videos with my hubby on the big t.v then I go on my tablet later to like n comment if you notice sometimes people don't watch all the way thru I'm one of them lol. Thanks for another great video
My Dad used to live in Jackson! Check out Fiddletown while you’re at it. My family used to have a gold claim about 6 miles up from there. Love your channel and the history you give of the places visited. A few miles up the road from Fiddletown on the left side of Fiddletown road, you’ll see an old cement cattle watering trough. There used to be an old cowboy friend of the family called Bill Soto and his dog Jack that used to live in an old green farmhouse there. Many good memories including homemade deer and rabbit jerky! After he sold it, they used the old house for some John Wayne movie and blew the place up for the movie. I have my memories though!
More awesome history for one who has only been living here a short while. And so, you, Miss Adventure, are invited to the Chili Contest Festival at The Red Neck Yacht Club at 25570 Hiway 88, Pioneer, California, Saturday, October 5th, 4pm until 9, for an afternoon of Live Music, Community, Dancing and above all, Red Neck Chili. As usual, we are super friendly and BYOB.
My aunt & uncle worked at the Jackson Lodge (hwy. 49) during 2010-2011. I used to live 3 counties up on Hwy. 49 in Auburn, CA. My husband and I have spent ALOT of time in Jackson, CA and I miss that place!
Howdy Sarah, Sorry I almost missed ya, I've been busy cleaning up from the hurricane. Thanks for sharing the journey, I really enjoy the stories the way you tell em. Stay safe young lady,
I live in Sacramento and have been to Jackson several times and Sutter creek. Such cute towns and have several cute shops. I use to buy alot of black hills gild from Jackson. Thanks for the video.
Hope you check out Preston Castle right down the road in Ione. Hank Williams was a child ward of the State there when it was Preston School of Industry. Such a fascinating history!
Sounds like a movie in the making. Love Marie, and love the story, maybe you should play the lead ! I’d love to see you in a movie! You would be awesome!! Think about it! You are the perfect person for this role !! Love you Sarah 🎉!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been to Jackson several times. I love driving on Highway 88 over Carson Pass to Lake Tahoe or beyond. I saw Toto at the Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort in 2013. Great gig!
Thanks for another interesting trip down memory lane. Reminds me of my years at Magma Copper Co. , San Manuel, AZ,. back in the 1970''s. Be careful out there!
I always enjoy your videos so much, and this one was especially entertaining - in spite of your state of overdress.😂 I laughed out loud several times. Keep up the great work! ☮❤
The ending. 😂😂😂 Kinda reminds me of Elsa in Taylor Sheridan’s 1883 when she paid the immigrant German seamstress a piece of gold from her bracelet to make her a pair of pants. Can’t cowboy in a petticoat. Lol. Such a great series. Loved this fascinating story. Thanks for sweltering and suffering to bring it to us. 👏😆💗
If you are still in the area, the town of West Point is having their Lumberjack festival October 5th. My wife will be riding side saddle in the parade.
A+ Silver Sarah🤩 Gold is at an all-time hight silver is $20 an ounce below it's all-time high. Tell Ross if he mines his lead and silver to make 1 ounce Wonderhussy pure silver bars, limited edition💲💲💲 Thanks, for wearing pants a lot of religious women can't wear pants🤔

Greatest respect for what you do. It is very hard work and often with little reward.
👍🏼👍🏼
Are you writing a book!!!!! You don't know nothing about mining try coal mining that hard ????
Can I work for you? FREE!
Awsomeness!!!
I gave you a standing ovation when you rattled off the names on that plaque.
My Great Grandparents were from Kotor Crnagora and migrated to Jackson,Ca . My Great Grandfather worked in the Argonuat mine and died at 27. He is buried at the Serbian Orthodox Church in Jackson in the Miners section.
Wow. My grandfather too!! Are you Serbian?
Memory eternal!
That’s a beautiful cemetery
Born and raised in Jackson on top of one of those mines.
I grew up in Shingle Springs
Wonderhussey, ur still my favorite "gold digger" ! 😊 !

I love Columbia for the locking iron shutters on all the doors and windows.

@@gregwilliams386 Yup.... I love it here...
Yes, Angels Camp is home of the celebrated jumping frog of Calaveras County.
Now you're visiting all the little towns I hung out in as a child. But did not know about Miss pantaloon. Awesome

I think SJ has been there.
As a long time resident of Jackson, I appreciate your visit and edification about our history. Sorry it was so hot that day.
She's from Death Valley though, I thought she could bare our climate !
Another fascinating history lesson, told by a very intriguing storyteller! Thank you for sharing!
Hello my fellow Gunderson alum, Sarah. I’ve lived in Jackson for 30 years and my wife volunteers on the cemetery commitee. Lots of great gold rush history in this town and area. Enjoy your visit to Amador County!
You have this amazing way of telling a story that shows me parts of California and Nevada that I didn't pay much attention to in the past.
Thank you

Thank you for the wonderful story of Madame Pantalon. You find so many interesting by-ways of history. Good tribute to the Argonaut miners. ❤👍😎
that 30 million was at $35.00/ ounce.....2,057,142,857. at today's prices...WOW
The price of gold from 1860 to 1900 was $20.67 per oz. so the dollar amount would be even higher...
@@kensmith2839 There might still be another 10 million abandoned in the mine today.
2 Billion U$ plus
Yes … but it will take 1 Billion in today’s money to clean up the area.
Wasn't gold 12.00 an oz for most time
Tight pants are like a cheap hotel... No Ballroom.
🤣🤣🤣
Hi-yo!!!
Thank you, very entertaining video.
