Cool .... sophisticated .... jazzy .... confident sounding .... just like Banacek himself ! George Peppard was great in this TV series .... it should have been on longer. Thanks for this excellent version of an unforgettable TV
Relaxing music coming from your Magnavox Tv. Mancini composes music that is spirit lifting and healing! This music gave every living room with Magnavox a special place!
Always liked the Banacek theme. Composers used to write classy TV themes that appealed to all ages. I looked forward to hearing the opening and closing themes and the background music. Even if the show wasn’t so good, the music pulled it all together.
Real Music still lives,Thank GOD and ALL arrangers,composers,maestros=Isaac Hayes,John Williams,Barry White,Harry Mancini,Quincy Jones,Donald Byrd,Gene Page,Nelson Riddle,Burt Bacharach,James Brown,Dolby,Jerry Fielding etc.
The TV themes that I love are Banacek (I have videos of all the TV shows), Ellery Queen (also have videos of the TV show), Peter Gunn, Mr. Lucky, Honey West, Burke's Law (!!!!!!), 77 Sunset Strip, Have Gun Will Travel. So many great TV shows from the past, so much crap being put out today. Love this version of the Banacek theme.
Yes, this performance along with Dave Grusin's " It Takes A Thief " are two of my all time favorites, and yes, they don't make this kinda' theme music anymore.......sad; but thanks to those at RUclips for bringing it back to us baby boomers
Oh yeah. I have to dig that one next. You might say the shows of today can stand against the shows of back in the day. You can’t say that about the theme songs. Heck, have the shows today don’t even have theme songs.🎬🎥💽😂
Remember listening to this theme (and watching the show) with Mum back in the Seventies. Thanks for the memories youtubeuserwilly, this is very much appreciated. Mum's been gone for 16 years but it feels like she's still here - thanks Mate.
The band as a whole was terrific. Some of the greatest TV nights of my life. Too bad George could not make more of them. The rest of the lineup was great too. The band was basically flawless... trombones and flutes... very nice work.
Best cover of a Billy Goldenberg show intro..thank you for 7 years of posting this Willy..it takes me back to Sunday drives..i have a 1972 Caddy Fleetwood I call George..Sunday Evening hasn't been the same without The Sunday Mistery movies.
This performance by The Real Deal Big Band caused me to request their CD for Christmas 6 years ago. And indeed 6 years ago, Santa put it in my stocking. I have been hooked ever since. The second track on the CD entitled "Milestones" is probably my favorite. I play it over and over again. You guys are great.
@ph1lanthrope Hey, Phil, incredible arrangement and with that flute.....my God! a.breezin' & swaying!!! Wonderful, thank you so much, dearest!!! ,) x x x x x x x ......
An older Matt Damon could star in a “Banacek” reboot, in Boston, when he gets bored. He could update the librarian / researcher role and find a sidekick more like “Jarvis” - instead of the chauffeur.
I have been watching Banacek on Amazon Prime. I loved the character of Jay. Felix was great too. I don't care much for the on and off relationship Banacek with Carlie Kirkland.
Hey, this was great. Also, really liked the way you scrolled the feature players during their musical highlights. I really enjoy 70's and 80's shows and enjoyed Banacek and your music is wonderful. Thanks for posting.
Thank you! BTW our CD with this arrangement is available on CD Baby--RUclips won't let me post a link but go to secondstepmusic dot kom (with a c) and you'll get the info.
Tony--every week I buy a NJ PIC_6 and say to myself, "if this hits I'm going to record the band..." so far I've been off by a couple of numbers. But we're performing at Trumpets on Sept. 17 and if you're in the neighborhood come in and I'll dedicate the tune to you. Thanks so much for your support.
It was great Sunday night (18 March) when the Simpson's did a fantastic episode on the old Banacek show called " Manacek ". Check it out ! The episode was called " Home Is Where The Art Isn't " Bill Hader from the SNL cast a few years back did a wonderful job playing Manacek
Absolutely one of my favorites. Such a beautiful tune. Banacek is also one of my favorite shows. I had always wanted to look this tune up. I was disappointed that Shazam couldn't pick this one out so I had to Google it.
I keep returning to this. I have to hear this theme song from time to time. This is a great version! I thought this was written by Henry Mancini but I guess I'm mistaken. Bravo, Real Deal!
+james woody James--it does sound like Mancini, who is one of my favorite composer/arrangers, but I believe this was written by Billy Goldenberg. The original brass melody was on french horn so I made those bone players work. Thanks--Willy Dalton
youtubeuserwilly I've no doubt that it was Goldenberg. It is well documented. Your band kicks. I never grow tired of hearing brass and guitar. I can't read music. I only play and compose by ear, so seeing real musicians reading fascinates me. Good stuff! The bass player from my old band knows how to read. He has toured with Flora Purim and Airto, mostly in South America. He's a monster player. I could never be as good a drummer, or keyboard player as he is as a bass guitarist....
+james woody Thanks--like most guitarists I started out playing, not reading. I knew I had to get it together and studied with a couple of guys who helped me. I worked opposite Flora & Airto @ The Village Gate in NYC in 1990! I was playing with Daniel Poncé and Flora & Airto sat in. I reminded Airto of the gig a couple of years ago and he remembered!
just an added comment--I read every comment that is written about my videos--the good and the bad. I usually don't reply but I really appreciate the positive comments--they're not necessary but I am grateful for them--thanks for watching.
They just don’t compose theme music for TV shows like they used to in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Vibrant themes, terrific orchestration and the music fit the basic theme and storyline of the TV show so well. Today’s TV themes are just so... flat and forgettable by comparison.
This performance is incredible. It is better than the original tv version. ......f.y.i. (COPIED FROM WIKI): Banacek was well-received by television critics, and, as a result, was picked up for a third season. However, before the third season could start, Peppard quit the show to prevent his ex-wife Elizabeth Ashley from receiving a larger percentage of his earnings as part of their divorce settlement.[citation needed] The complication ended any chance of reviving Banacek during Peppard's lifetime. A&E continued rebroadcasts of Banacek in syndication.....(END QUOTE) As a huge fan of the show, This is dissapointing. Banacek was unique to all other shows on tv at the time. I think what set Banacek apart from the rest was it's sophistication. Peppard's screen presence and personality were perfect for the Thomas Banacek television character role. The entire supporting cast was also top notch. This show could have easily run for many more seasons. What a shame!
I think the suggestion that #4 is Hot l Baltimore is a very strong possibility. Does anyone know of clips from the show? The Museum of Television in LA may have the answers.
Oh good!! It's not just me. I love this TV show theme!!
Cool .... sophisticated
.... jazzy .... confident
sounding .... just like
Banacek himself !
George Peppard was great in this
TV series .... it should have been on longer. Thanks
for this excellent version of an unforgettable TV
series theme! ❤❤
Loved the show…as well as Peppard’s performance.
I miss music like this. It just brings back memories of different times.
so sophisicatic & wonderful
simpler times on tv. good quality shows & great theme songs!
That bassline !
I love this theme i can't get enough of it
Love this beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ah, this style, era; smooth-as-glass trombones, flute trills and tremolos... just magnificent. I could listen to this stuff 24/7.
Relaxing music coming from your Magnavox Tv. Mancini composes music that is spirit lifting and healing! This music gave every living room with Magnavox a special place!
I'll always remember this song forever...it came at a time in my life when everything was perfect!!!! Rock on JP!!!
Always liked the Banacek theme. Composers used to write classy TV themes that appealed to all ages. I looked forward to hearing the opening and closing themes and the background music. Even if the show wasn’t so good, the music pulled it all together.
good sophistcated music for smart television. who knew we would look for it now! soundtracks for tv/movies were soooo much better then!
One of the best things about the show, along with the brilliant story writing 🎥🎬💽
The best of the best

If you miss Banacek. It gives every Saturday at 1:30 on CozyTV. Such a great show
Reminds me of the great show this was yesteryear!
The band as a whole was terrific. Some of the greatest TV nights of my life. Too bad George could not make more of them. The rest of the lineup was great too. The band was basically flawless... trombones and flutes... very nice work.

My Favorite Mystery show! "Banacek"
Love this. I wanted to be Banacek. Love the soundtrack
time stood still..... thanks...
Great music!
Incredible arrangement. Would love them to play more TV Themes from that era. There were so many great ones.
And Mannix
Always loved this show and still do , i never miss a chance to watch an episode for me "COZI TV" Sat. 2;30
This is excellent. Thanks to youtube and you guys. Killer song, arrangement, and performance. A forgotten gem.
Hey, this was great. Also, really liked the way you scrolled the feature players during their musical highlights. I really enjoy 70's and 80's shows and enjoyed Banacek and your music is wonderful. Thanks for posting.
Come on Willy. You have to put out a cd with this on it. I'll buy the first copy. This arrangement is just that damn good.
An excellent version of a great theme to a great show.
Thank you! BTW our CD with this arrangement is available on CD Baby--RUclips won't let me post a link but go to secondstepmusic dot kom (with a c) and you'll get the info.
If I had been in the audience and heard this I would have flipped!
+james woody Thanks!
Very nice arrangement of a great theme song!!
Love this....thanks for posting.

Just watched Manacek tonight. I was in the kitchen and heard the music and ran into the living room. "Banacek!" I said to my husband.
Loved that show
thanks so much!
Best modern big band I've heard since Quincy and Miles at Montreux in '91.
Man, you guys nailed it!
I must play in a band like this...that is my goal.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you! I really enjoyed this!
Nice cover version!!

Check out our bassist, Gary Brown, soloing on "Fish and Chips," with the Jose Neto Band. You will see what a monster my beloved Gary is!
youtubeuserwilly So cool! You KNOW what I'm talking about, Willy!
Great!
Thanks!!!

Good job on this version of the theme, but I'll stay with the original. Loved the series and George, of course.
exquisita pieza
+ernesto jose fernandez estebes --thanks!
The main bars - 9 notes (00:13 - 00:18 and 00:28 - 00:33, etc) are exactly the same as in "Wave" (2:00 on) composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Continues to thrill me..... what else is there to say?.
quem gosta de jazz não pode ficar sem ouvir esta maravilha..
Starsky & Hutch coolest cops ❤ The soundtrack is fantástico
yep. Good touch with TV themes i'd say.
Banachek the cool dude
Amen to that
made me decide to fix and solve the problems others
You can download a copy of this song from a lnk on Willy's RUclips site. It's easy and costs .99.

Is that guitar player wearing a Banacek wig? Looks great! The song is awesome! They just don't make shows like that anymore. It's just great!! Thanks.
Come on guys, where can we get a CD copy of the terrific verison of banacek arrangement? Anybody please.
I think the suggestion that #4 is Hot l Baltimore is a very strong possibility. Does anyone know of clips from the show? The Museum of Television in LA may have the answers.
Good arrangement, trumpet to brassy He's spliting notes.Overall great piece.
where can I get this bands music?
Some nifty bass playing there. Great tune - didn't the same guy write the themes for Kojak and Harry O?
@enoorkoiv thanks so much
THAT is a beautiful arrangement, well-performed! Any chance you guys do Don Ellis's theme to THE FRENCH CONNECTION as well?
If it is on CD please let us know.
haha, what did you study with him on?
right--I'll correct it.
in the actual banacek theme song...the bones r the lead parts in the beginning also so...get on the arranger of the original piece.
You mean Billy Goldenberg youtubeuserwilly.
Nightstalker theme song
starting to get very irritated with the new RUclips policies....arrrrghh
so youse could hear the original without the uplifting flute solo
mr flautist looks so uninvolved
Song was great but show lacked luster.
