Not sure why anyone is slagging him off in the comments. He’s one of history’s greatest riders as well as one of the biggest characters. He’s having a crack at something different. It’s up to him. Crack on Sagan 👍

Because he hasn’t been himself for over 5 years. He is years past his prime.

@@danielkaminske5048 so what? Is he taking anyones spot? He is doing just what he loves and what putting his maximum effort. We don’t know why he declined, but multiple COVIDs and heart issue can have huge negative impact for some. Why to judge. Also he earned palmares that are more impressive that some big names in 2 life-times, so he has no obligation to prove himself.
PS: you say he did nothing last 5 years, but less than 5 years ago he got another green jersey at TdF and less than 4 years ago he got awesome stage win in Giro….so I would question your definition of “nothing”.

@@lukaskaciasvili9351 I judge because he is dragging out a career that should have ended 5 years ago and he is not adding grace to his career. You have to know when to walk away gracefully.
I'm glad you found his 67th place finish valuable.

Just stating what he is saying is not possible. I believe it’s firstly a marketing thing by specialised which ok no problem and secondly he loves riding and this is a way to continue without the pro peleton pressure as even the uci mtb scene is a way different feel. However to gain the points required is in reality not possible .

The Slovakian has become the first cyclist to win three consecutive road cycling World Championships. Since 1927, when the event was established, no other runner had worn the rainbow jersey in three consecutive editions.
121 Triumphs, 7 Green Jerseys in the Tour de France, 5 Monuments.

I have a lot of respect for Peter Sagan and his dream to represent Slovakia in the Paris Olympic MTB race, and I'd love to see him get there. Unfortunately, his chances of even qualifying are not looking great at this point. It was an uphill battle from the beginning just to get to Paris, and the heart issue, and resulting two ablation surgeries certainly didn't help the situation at all. I hope that he does make it to Paris, and more importantly I hope that he lives a long and healthy life.

Peter rode in the olympic mountain bike xco two olympics ago and was running in third place and looking very strong until he suffered 2 punctures.. I believe he would have won a silver or at the very least a bronze were it not for the flats.

@@forza1860muc because he has not amassed many points so he is basically starting from scratch behind about 200 riders who already have points and are chasing more -the amount of points needed to qualify would mean he would have to place very highly like top 3 in in a World Cup race several times or virtually win all C1 level races - it would be equivalent to an average pro road rider winning 3 spring monuments and 5 stages of the TDF and several other races.
