- Crews opened a second temporary channel on Tuesday allowing a limited amount of marine traffic to bypass the wreckage of Baltimore's collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge, which had blocked the vital port's main shipping channel since its destruction one week ago. Work is ongoing to open a third channel that will allow larger vessels to pass through the bottleneck, officials announced at a news conference Tuesday afternoon. The channels are primarily open primarily to vessels that are helping with the cleanup effort, along with some barges and tugs that have been stuck in the Port of Baltimore. A tugboat pushing a fuel barge was the first vessel to use an alternate channel late Monday. It was supplying jet fuel to Delaware's Dover Air Force Base. www.wbaltv.com/article/tempora...
Work safe, recover the dead. Open the channel as soon and as safely as possible.
They are so corrupted man it's about the guns, drugs and some awful workers of wickedness of iniquity
Impressesed with this Governor. 5 minutes in and he is very detailed. Stay with it!
This is what leadership looks like💜Sending prayers 🙏
Absolutely. A much needed break from the clown show scare tactics!
Condolences and prayers for the families of the victims.
Is it just me but every time when I look at this I think about the workers on the bridge
Thank you Governor Moore for your commitment and clear explanation. The scholarship program sounds amazing! Please take care of these families. Job well done to all the leadership and workers within Maryland behind the scenes. National leaders, Let's do better with sharing best practices among the states who have dealt with disasters such as this in the past (i.e. installing dolphins to keep bridges safe). The scholarship program sounds amazing! Please take care of these families.
I really like this Governor, he may need to be President some day.
OMG..No...
@@JohnShinn1960yeah another useless democrat smooth talking the people and never accomplishing nothing. 🙄
See it’s comments like this that get him going. Dude is loving his spotlight.
Stop! 😂😂😂
HMMMMM
Thanks Governor!
I've really been impressed with the updates they've been giving. My only suggestion: A mic for the people asking questions. It would be nice to hear what questions are being asked for full context.
Please put the mike to questions being asked
Prayers for The Families who Lost Husband's, Brothers & Sons. Prayers for Our Responders 🙏🙏🙏🙏😇😇🌹🌹🌹🌹
Tug boats couldnt escort ship through the channel with electrical issues that they thought they had fixed there budget is blown out of the water
Someone need to be recognized. First the person who's received that call in that very morning. Second the patrol who were there to respond to that call in close that bridge in that very second. That is so accurate emagine the was no patrol nearby to respond right away everyone who were in that stopping line could be died at this time. I thanks everyone who were at work that very night. Sorry for my English at least i am trying.
Can the Longshoremen be detailed to the other ports that are picking up the extra work along the east coast?
I was curious about that myself.
Just wondering because I've heard nothing mentioned about it, but isn't there a lighting system they could use under water?
I assume they'd encounter similar problems as one would encounter with flashlights in heavy fog/blizzards, with all the silt from the sea floor drifting and floating everywhere
Ok but can we name it the Flava Clutch bridge? With a nice big clock? Dodecahedron.Could be cool.
Guys when the press ask a question can you repeat it to the mic so we know the press asked and the army came up and answered a question we did not know the question
Why are the support columns so weak? This should be averted in rebuild designs.
The support colmns were built strong enough to hold the bridge and the traffic going over it. It wasn't built to handle being struck by 200 million pound ship moving at 8 knots
Someone please provide a mic for Q&A or have the presenters repeat questions from the audience!
Could we not all begin with "one week ago"?
Ladies and gentlemen, this is what leadership looks like.
I guess u never seen ron desantis at work
Not many non famous private citizens get half staff flags in this country , truly a sad event just minutes away from my house , RIP
Moore's military experience has really shown through during this tragedy.
I missed seeing how they pulled the cargo ship away from the scene. Were they able to regain power to haul itself away?
Any updates as to how two minutes of critical data from the ships Black-Box is "missing"?
yep. HMMMMMM
Dali ship done screwed up mechanical issues with vessel
Those crains are tiny compared to that ship the dali is 2 football fields long the evergiven is 3 football fields long
Working by comity does not work. Imo, a single person should be in charge.
You need a hard leader who will drive things, for sure.
Do you mean committee?
@@teekay_1 looks like Wes Moore will be your guy. At the end the State, Country and City have to pay the bill and look to become the money back by various insurance companies and their various at-fault customers for the cause.
@@muratti72muc Talk is easy. If he dithers a year "waiting for the final report", he's just another bureaucrat.
Ball's in his court.
The Unified Command is headed by Rear Admiral Gilreath, so far as I can tell. They operate according to the ICS: Incident Command System, a nationwide system of organizing on-the-scene incidents.
I thought he said we lost 6 mariners.I was like omg. but They really need somebody one person in charge of this operatio not a politician!
I thought he said that too, but I listened again and realized he said Marylanders.
In my opinion, too much smiles on the faces on such an important briefing when human remains still under the water!
Politicians are a pain
If anything happens in the world, we are first there to help. After more than one week nobody helped America. WHY? Condolences to the families of the victims. I'm sorry for your loss. They are not only words........

Never hear anything about the consequences for the company that owns the ship
Because there is nothing to report, it can take years for the claims to work their way through courts and I'm sure the Governor does not want to taint the claim by saying something that could be used to challenge the insurance claims. Additionally, it really does not matter at this point, the focus is on reopening the channel and port, anything else is a distraction.
Years? I don't think so. There is nothing to investigate. The insurance company should pay and then do an investigation to see if they need to go after anyone else to recover funds - but there is no way they are not responsible for taking down a bridge. @@kenargo
@@CN45475nothing to investigate??? There are multiple companies involved in the operation of the ship. Is it the operators? The maintenance of the ship? What do they pay? Price of bridge? Port being closed for weeks? Resucue and search for dead bodies? Removal of the bridge? Etc etc etc
Please increase the volume on these events. We can always turn it down but we can’t turn it up louder than it’s being broadcast. Bye - I can’t hear this :-(
This will be a five year project and for most of that time, the port will be closed. There is a mile of six lane highway dumped onto the channel which will have to be removed by divers. You can't dredge steel and concrete and there are still gas pipes under that too. Apart from the visible steel trusses that collapsed, Most of the debris is under the water. A few shallow displacement barges are all that will be able to get through. To allow big ships, the new bridge will have to be higher than the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
It probably take 10 years
Same thing no updates slow process process process
Proud Maryland Strong.
It will get done.
Maryland sucks it a blue state did u forget
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
I do not WANT to hear from the governor. I WANT to HEAR from someone WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT
🙏🏽 ❤ ✌🏽 condolences 💐 Why does there need to be daily updates?
I think they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. Others are already complaining that authorities aren't telling us enough and something is amiss. At least it appears they're trying to be transparent.
These guys sure love their tv time we hear the same thing over and over and over and over how bout wait till you have something new
It’s what politicians do best.
You don't have to watch it.
With Moore, you get less. He is an empty suit enjoying his time in the spotlight. No substance at all.
Before you open the channel to ships
IS ANYONE SUFFERING FROM KEY BRIDGE DISFUNCTION DERANGEMENT ?
Maybe
I don't agree with all his policies, but I will say that he is a man of action and am proud of him for handling this tragedy with great leadership.
Well, that was clear as mud 🤔
Can they not use carriers on both side of the bridge and pull the bridge up with crains and or helicopters, lay it on another carrier and haul it away once they cut where its needed? The risk or fear of continued cutting and it slipping to the bottom of the ocean can be very dangerous. It took years for our SF Bay bridge to be expanded on the East Side of the Bay; this disaster is alarming and im not even a Baltimore resident. I applaud both the mayor and its Governor for taking immediate action on this matter.
The Dali is resting on "the bottom of the ocean"
Can robots do anything?
Did they tell you where they got the fuel oil to run that big poc
Its a nightmare thanks to the dali they done screwed up 😢so sad
LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION Mr Governor 😂
Look at him.
It will take $1 billion to restore a new bridge in the scope of sizeable length
60 million would NOT even cover the bandaid of damage done.
A lot of comments asking why they're not talking about what caused this. That's because you're asking the wrong people. This is the unified command that's working on recovery under the four objectives they set up. The ones working on what caused this is the NTSB, and they already said the investigation takes a lot of time. Look back at any airline disaster - it took years to finish the investigation.
We already know what caused it. You're just coming in late lol
will the drivers of the ship be charged with involuntary manslaughter
God bless!!
The bridge was destroyed and 6 people died because a container ship hit it.
Lead with the cause... not the effect. Or lead with the recovery.
Have we found all the missing children of LAHAINA
EVERYBODY Smile and say cheese!
This guy is loving attention. Sick of hearing from him at this point.
Are you being forced to watch against your will?
@@randymerzbacher879 I am forced because there’s “an update” like anything new has happened. Dude sneaks in little political nonsense always.
He needs to keep his promise he keeps promising to recover the bodies
If they were not in a truck, they may be miles away, swept away with the current and may never be found. Sad I know, but many of the living in that area rely on that harbor being open to put food on the table. Can't stop the world from turning to look for four deceased individuals.
1 pillar gets hit and it took the whole bridge out what engineer design that bridge in 1977 old school design
Goverment got the money from your taxes fir this disaster
While we're all sure the Army Corp of engineers will get the bay open, and updates are welcome.
However, the governor should be focused on bridge replacement: determine if there's safer ways to design bridges so that even when a ship loses power, it cannot hit the bridge. Start the RFP process to get some initial designs from leading architecture/design firms. What are the design criteria Maryland should be using the bridge? All the 1,000 questions MDOT should ask of design/build firms should be collated right now. Each of these steps can take months.
The Governor cannot fix the accident, he's a bystander like the rest of us. But getting through these preliminary steps in parallel with with the investigation and bridge/ship cleanup can shave a year from a replacement timeline.
Who says that this is not happening. But we don't need updates on that - the updates concern finding the bodies, clearing the channel.
@@zbagz01 The bodies are a concern to four families. The bridge being replaced is a concern for millions of families.
@@teekay_1
Of course - but you can't give daily updates on something that will take years.
The Governor is explaining to the public the steps that are being taken to address the problem at hand and the various government agencies that are involved and the expertise of each group.
You can't write an RFP for a bridge overnight. And it isn't one RFP for a bridge - its multiple RFPs - for bridge design, engineering, construction, access roads, etc.
You are absolutely right when you said there are 1000s of things that need to be taken into consideration. And that's why it will take time.
Rest assured - people are working on the replacement right now and studies are underway. But those will take a long time. and require the involvement of everyone - Federal, state and local.
In the meantime, the Governor is doing a very good job explaining the problems and how they are being solved.
Be patient. There are people who know a whole lot more than you and me about engineering and cargo ships who will spend a good part of the next decade on building a better bridge.
@@zbagz01 We really don't need daily updates though. The governor should lay out the schedule for the ongoing cleanup and only do press conferences when there is something notable achieved, or a significant setback occurs.
The key to the crash lies in the ship veering to the right towards the pillar as it was approaching the Bridge, even after emergency power was restored to the steering
The cause being due to astern propulsion on the engines after emergency power was restored,, for the reason of the black smoke from the funnel, coupled with dropping the anchor, in order to stop the ships momentum, The two crucial mistakes that caused the crash,
It should have been noted that the heading of the vessel depends on the momentum which was at 8 knots & not on the propulsion, moreover head or stern thrust would have no effect on a ship makiing a 8 knots , other than Canting the head to the right towards the Bridge pillar
The truth of the crash may never come out lest Insurance/Compensation be denied for the Pilots/officals erranous actions when faced with an emergency situation, changing the focus from safe navigation to saving the Bridge, only ending up crashing into the pillar of the Bridge,
Bouys never had them in the correct spot to protect the brigde
Why can't you use air bladders to bring it all up at one time
It's to heavy
Is this a show for him? He is the governor ,not a bridge accident manager. Let the experts do the job
Yea but a slick politician never lets a good disaster go to waste.
So many ways this could have been easily prevented.
Sliw as molasses
There is something more to this than meets the eye. Definitely more than media is telling us.
Tell us oh holy one what happened?
Do I smell another conspiracy? 🙄
It's been a week, and I'm already tired of Governor Moore grandstanding and sucking up oxygen. Leave the briefings to people who have first hand info.

Can they just weld a plate over the hole in the hull, where it sits, and send the Dali on its way to its next destination?
It is pinned under the bridge and stuck in mud. Next idea?
Put some j b welds on it
@@zbagz01 Of course after they free it. duh.

It's all empty talk. The public has not been shown any evidence of salvage work being done. All channels that claim to show live coverage of the operation are still showing the same loops of video from Saturday. What is happening? Every image we see of the huge cranes show cranes that are not moving and are not supporting any load on their hooks. It seems that the salvage operation is simply not happening at all.

Mannnnn just say when the vessels are able to come back to the port idc about anything else… im sorry but im not
Who pays for THIS private party accident?
Install red traffic lights flashing on new Bridge when ships are approaching so cars are stopped before crossing out on Bridge & the road crews can get off the Bridge in time.
No Guranntee ships could do this again with new Bridge

Move something off the Dali, ANYTHING, even a small piece. So far looks like a bunch of big cranes PARKED 24/7. Instead of calling this an UPDATE, call it an update of latest excuses.
I haven't heard if the bridge is a racist bridge.
The families want there loved ones body recovered out of the 50 ft of water divers cant get to them because of tbe steel from the bridge filling pot holes on the bridge temp fix instead of fixing the pavment the proper way to cheap like the protection around the pillars of the bridge because they were to cheap bridge was built in 1977
OMG come crash all our bridges, so that we can get scholarships, this is unbelievable
Taxpayers money
Bite Sized pieces.
Governor Moore is gorgeous..Just saying.👀
We’ve already diverted from the plan. The first course of action was to clear the shipping channel. However, we’ve opened a temporary SMALL channel, and now a second temporary SMALL channel. Here we go, back to the norm for state workers. They had the right plan, they said the right things, and now we’re going right back to bureaucracy. Just you watch as more and more side projects get completed before the shipping channel.
MD Governor has Obama style! Good luck to you sir
Suggestion; Get some tugs on the ship and cut away the section on top 1st! Drag the remaining section of bridge underwater either on land or out to sea! Replace the bridge with bumpers. sandbars and other reinforcement around supports and build the new bridge in sections so that the loss of one section doesn't cause the entire bridge to collapse!
So you are a bridge or demolition expert huh? And drag a million pounds of bridge with what exactly?
@@BillO964 this one doesn’t understand they are electrical and a live gas line under that ship which is grounded by the bow but let’s just drag it around the bottom of the river. 🫤
The event has strayed into an area where its now defined as a collapse with straw men heros. The truth is, its an allision thats going to result in a cost of 2 billion dollars and a 3-5 year construction project.

HAHAHAHA!!!
Get divers in water they do dangerous things all the time! And USCG working in rain really!
You seem to be in a hurry. Why don't you go down there.
Are you in a hurry, put on your bathing suit and volunteer...😂
The plan was to make the SHIPPING CHANNEL the first priority after the rescue. So far, TWO OTHER channels have taken priority over the shipping channel.
Now it will cost billions of dollars to build another bridge of taxpayers money the companyy of ship and the birdbrains operatoring the ship they new they had electrical issues they thought they had it fixed that ship should have never left the dock
I'm sick of hearing about the worker.they was filling pot holes not a dangerous job. unfortunately the boat hit the bridge. It's people at hospital the same time saving lives and Police wrking that same time. who jobs are more important GOV. You already gave there family yours blessings
It is a dangerous job if you can you can die from it
Never say who is responsible but we all know the answer to that question cost a fortune to clean up this mess billions of dollars to build a new bridge
This is becoming another bailout for big business mistakes. Why is the taxpayer footing the bill for a private parties mistake?
Because that's how President Biden wants it done.
Ask your govenor
If he was HOGAN nobody would be saying anything Abt t.v time
He acts like hw is in charge-LOL
He's being transparent, relax.
He who????
All of thee experts none of whom could mitigate a fairly obvious risk
