We've made a few how to clean your washer and dryer videos in the past, but one thing we've never discussed (because frankly, I didn't know it existed), is how to clean your washer pump filter. So, in this video, I take you through exactly how to do this, along with some other deep cleaning methods you can use on your dryer.

My dark clothes come out of the washer with what looks like soap scum/lint patches. I have to brush it off before drying my clothes. So frustrating. I have tried everything. Running another cycle with no soap, cleaning the washer with the cleaning packs or vinegar (maybe I'm not using enough). It's not old, but it's a top loader with an agitator (wasn't my choice ha ha). Need your advice please.

My biggest problem is occasionally we have a really stinky load come out of the washer. It goes in smelling fine and comes out smelling awful. It doesn’t happen all of the time though and it’s awful!

It used to be that I felt that my clothes didn't really smell clean, but since switching to Persil liquid detergent, I no longer have this issue. I also clean my washer on the clean cycle once a month with this tablet (from Home Depot) and run the clean cycle on my LG HE washer. Also, WHERE on my machine would there be that tube that you emptied water into a bucket? I don't see that on my machine anywhere, but then mine is a top loading machine, not a front loading one. Thanks for your tips!👏🏼 (And best of luck in the new home! Can't wait to see all the projects you do in it!👀)

At risk of my endless stupidity, mine is knowing how much laundry to put in the machine in the first place? I always think I over fill,if anything.. 😳

my frustrations. my mother complains if I leave our top loader washing machine door open after I finish my laundry. She doesn't listen when I explain that I can still feel the warm humid air inside the machine and I'm just letting it cool/dry before closing the door. She doesn't even remove the lint filter and remove the gunk. I always remind myself to start my laundry by removing filter, cleaning it then cleaning the slot for lint filter and end my load by wiping in/outside then airing it out. Need to run a tubclean because I see a lot of build up on the sides of the drum. Thanks a lot for the clean hacks and excited to see your new home. Congrats!

We also have an LG front loader and from time to time I actually remove the dryer filter housing to get a deep clean. It’s really very easy and usually only 2 to 4 Phillips head screws. Once removed you have way more access to get the stuff that the brush won’t get, like coins, buttons paper, etc.
Love your videos you’ve found a subscriber in me.

I love this video! We have the very same units, we also have the smell problem, a deep perfume smell! Awful, we tried everything. I only use vinegar as well. And odor Kleenz. It helped but not much. Chris did everything he could until we saw the video! Finally, we even had the repair man out yesterday. He said exactly what you did, especially here we have a water softener. So thank you for once again putting out a great video! Also, want to put out there as a ERDoc to always keep the soap pods away from the little ones. My little girl always is drawn to them.

Great video! As always!! 😍 I bought something called a lint lizard...its an attachment to your vaccum that gets inside the lint trap and all the way in..like right to the aluminum vent hose that goes out of your house! It was $20 at cvs like 6 or 7 years ago, and it was the best $20 i ever spent! Every few months I’ll use it to thoroughly clean out the lint.

My mom is the same way 😄. We clean our washing machine at least once a month. Before that we wash out micro fibre clothe and floor mats so all gunk that we missed don't mix with our clothes. We just wipe down the insides of the door and rubber lining. We use the tide washing machine washer detergent for first wash and do an extra wash with just hot water. Ocd I know but half my family suffers from allergies and I found this helps after I started using this method. And I do the water drain with this too. I love what you do and I'm more efficient with my cleaning now. Keep up the good work 😄

I knew about the bottom plug about a year ago and I know the previous owners did not know about it. lol I do this about every 2-3 months when I think about it but I might start writing it down to remember to do it often. I didn't know about the top part until recently my wife happened to really look in there and noticed it looked moldy underneath. Once I pulled it out there was black mold all over the place. I'm going to be doing this every 2-3 months now as well, at least just pulling it out to take a look and see how often I need to do it. Thanks!

About the washer, I recently purchased a top loader HE washer. Sometimes my clothes on the bottom will have a trace of dirt or dried soap. I clean my water reservoir tank and filter once a month. I do a tub clean cycle once a month: you do that with no clothes and add liquid bleach only to the bleach dispenser. Finally I wipe the glass down after every load. It's all on the LG manual that comes with your washer. :) I'm 66. Oh; I use a thin hose attachment on my shop vac to vacuum the lint trap out.

A couple of questions I have pertaining to drying...How to keep the dryer balls (wool) from getting caught up in the clothes, particularly the fitted sheets. It can be so annoying. Also, how to keep sheets from forming into a big ball when I run the dryer. They don't dry evenly and I end wasting energy. I have a front loader dryer. Thanks for your tips. Great channel!

Hey, we became home owner last year and it came with a washer and dryer. After some amateur sleuthing we became aware that the previous home inhabitants had owned a large furry pet and every time I completed the laundry it would acquire a new smell (like wet dog) even after “clearing” the washer and dryer. I could get the smell to go away for short periods of time but I still have not completely illuminated it. I suppose I have not been cleaning it well as I had thought.

What to do if my machine doesn't have a "self-clean" type cycle? I have an older HE front loader. My biggest issues are: 1)lately stuff has not been smelling clean after some washes, so much that I'll wash multiple times, 2)hard water/detergent build up under and in the dispenser tray, and 3)mold in the rubber gasket that won't come off and my manual doesn't address how to fix this.

I need to know how to get fragrance smells out of clothes. We use free and clear products but our relatives used highly fragranced products, so it takes me 3 or 4 washings or more to get those fragrances out of my kids clothes when they go for a visit. Is there an easy way to remove strong fragrances? It's so strong my kids get headaches from it. I've added vinegar to the wash and I've tried baking soda, but it takes so many washes.

Conundrums: dingy collars & pilling on tshirts, ugh, it's Chronic. Also, are there times when you should NOT use pods? Which are best? We LOVE them for teens! Amazing...I was wondering this week, about washing drapes? Yes? No? I took them to the cleaners 20% off household special, but...springtime will come around soon, and I like to do it 2x/yr. Thanks!

I have a new HE top loading washer. I hate buying the affresh or tide cleaners to clean my washer. They are expensive and they smell bad! Is there another (homemade) alternative that smells nice and won't break the bank?

I just now saw this video. I missed the sale :( I have a laundry conundrum... my boyfriend sweats a lot during his workouts. We don’t wash clothes everyday, so the odor builds up on this shirts. After a while, the stench just sticks on the clothes no matter how many times we wash them. Do you have a solution to keeping his cloths from permanently smelling?

What about cleaning the dryer vent outside(for those who have can access it)?
Laundry conundrums... some people's laundry smells SO GOOD, ours, no matter what I do, it smells good taking it out of the dryer, but it doesn't last. I have received clothing that was in a box for 2 YEARS and it smelled great. I eventually found the same detergent (Gain) and used it, but I didn't get the same results. Our clothes don't smell bad, but they aren't keeping the nice smell.😕

Run a long hot cycle with baking soda. Run another long hot cycle with vinegar. Wipe the interior when done. Leave the lid open.

How do you get rid of mold won the gasket of the washer? Or do I need to replace the gasket?

For me, it's the mildew smell that comes from the washer. I moved in my landlord's building about a year ago and it's been there ever since, thank goodness it does transfer to the clothes. I will try these tips, but PLEASE if you have other tips on how to get rid of it PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I know to keep the door open after every wash. This is an older washer & dryer so finding that filter will be interesting....wish me luck!!!!

Armpit stains and odor! I have tried pretreating with shout. Add vinegar, or borax to the wash. Nothing seems to help.

Curious what the odds are of a large space sale this year? We move into a brand new house in early December and I’ve been eyeing that kit for months but don’t have the budget to invest full price. If there’s a good shot on maybe Black Friday then i can wait but if it’s unlikely then i might just need to buy two small space kits now

    YIKES! 😳 Who knew!?
The thing is, I don't see any "compartment" like that on the front of my washing machine. I hav a stackable washer/dryer. Would it be on the back? Obviously I could answer that myself by pulling out the washer/dryer, but it's kinda a real pain in the butt to do that, to be honest; so if you could answer that question, (if you know the answer), I'd really appreciate it! Tnxs!
