Would take this in a heartbeat to restore this from a person who owns a 1986 Dodge 600 & a 1988 Dodge Aries both running strong after 30 plus years...just like em....
It's not worth much, but it's definitely worth the time, money and effort to get it running and driving again. It's definitely better than a modern garbage CROSSOVER
Why is this car even in the junkyard?? It's in amazing condition. I remember these cars well and i know i'm going to take alot of heat but i really loved them. They were appointed really beautiful on the inside and got great gas mileage. I know the quality wasn't that good but still. That car should have been saved. Even if the engine or transmission was blown, the mileage was low and worth saving. I hate seeing shit like this when people discard beautiful cars. Thank you for previewing it.
Headgaskets usually kill these. People "Get them repaired," but they rarely do the proper fix. Proper fix? Yes- Cometic MLS head gasket, has the head fully done and new head bolts or stud kit. Do that and they won't blow out... Another thing? The Halls effect pick up on the distributor. Use the Mopar part only. No aftearket version will hold up
We had a dodge lancer es turbo same colors in and out but daytona sport suspension package, loved it. Usually every 40 -70k miles the heads crack in the valve seat or valves get pitted and/or head gasket pops, the head must be machined to fix it. if its properly idled on/off running times the turbo can last a while but the auto trans do tend to go bad after 100k getting parts for it may be hard. This is a nice car to fix if someone had the time for the work and to find the parts. Loved the digital dash these cars had, I would pull that as a core to sell -they are almost unobtainable now. This one should be saved or go on a movie or tv location lot for filming, it's clean enough to pass for new one. They could rival a v8 in their day on the road and the front drive rode smooth but in snow, it was real close to awd wagon for traction and had great fuel economy.
Never had one of these, but I did own an '89 Caravan Turbo. 2.5, SE. Owner sold it to me for $500, thought the head gasket was bad- nope, was the spark plug wire ends (which were the distributor cap contacts for the rotor) burned away. I did do a head gasket about 10k miles later; Cometic/"Mopar Performance" MLS gasket, ARP bolts, we machined the head fully (w/a little gasket matching, a cam from an FFV engine & better springs), and installed a Shelby intake that had FFV injectors, an '87 3L throttle body, and gasket matched to the head. For a turbo, we used a Garrett T3 off a "Turbo II" TC convertible, an intercooler from a Volvo 740, and a 1st generation DSM blow-off valve. Exhaust was a full 3" from the swing-valve back, had a truck cat, a resonator and a dual stainless tip. Discs & front suspension were from a '92 Grand Caravan, poly bushings on the cast LCAs' & swaybar. In the back I used a swaybar tube. Konis all the way around, Shelby 15" × 7" wheels and 60-series rubber. The transaxle was a A-413 that was built picking best bits from various years and had a LD limited slip. When I got rid of it, that thing had 309+k miles on it
Whoa Nelley, E car and not going very far. Yes, this is a "Sperlich Special" in that it's made on the extended (E car) K car chassis. Hal Sperlich came over to Chrysler from Ford as did Lee Iacocca and together they put ideas in place at Chrysler (such as the minivan) which Ford wouldn't allow. Yep, That's what I was going to say, Chrysler used that square type from 1974- 2001, Wiring changed through the years but it's not hard to make it work.
I hope someone sees this and saves it. I don’t see any reason it can’t be put back on the road especially with the low mileage. I don’t know why people these days don’t want to drive anything over five years old anymore a lot of my family included but not me I’m just the opposite the odd ball I guess.
Everytime I look for a used car these days used dealerships try to ruin your credit from financing or a weirdo from CL or FM don't want to sell the car at the last minute. It's simpler to buy new or buy used at a new car dealership (not CarMax, Carvana, etc)...
My mom bought one of these used back around mid 1990s. I think her's was a little older and I thought it had the talking feature that was speaking slow due to age. Not sure how they got it to speak. It got her around for a while. They were a big deal back in the day.
As a collector of K car variants (mainly Shadows) it's really a shame people junk these because they *look* old. They are incredibly easy to get running again if you know your way around them. My J body Lebaron gets 29 MPG highway and is a blast to row through the gears. Also, if you are willing to go back, I would love to get ahold of: - The radio - front and rear ornaments - mud flaps - digital dash and voice alert if equipped (voice alert should be a box behind the glove box on these cars)
Exceptionally clean for its age. Might be worth the trouble. Saw one on bring a trailer for $6100.00. I once owned a non turbo Plymouth Caravele. She was on the same platform as the New Yorker. A more comfortable version of the K car. This was back in the mid 90s so it was an affordable used car with working air.
Man it's amazing the cars like that make it into the yard man that car is perfect cute man if I was there I'd have made an offer on it heck I drive that car clean that car up way better than that new junk it seems to fall apart at every single turn and I bet you that car even runs and that vinyl top look like it was an excellent shape too another great video but yeah it never ceases to amaze me what people put in the yard hope you been having a great week.
What a tragedy. I mean, I’m not a fan of these cars by any means but it looks too well cared for to meet its fate. Someone out there would love to have cared for it and appreciated it. So incredibly sad.
Not a huge fan of these, but it was definitely sad to see it in the junkyard. Probably came from an estate where house and contents needed to be cleared out and it was just let go.
I'm pretty certain that 8 of 86 makes it a very early production model. The serial number being the 367th Chrysler built for the 1987 Model year......According to my Chrysler Book, the last six digits 100001 start sequentially so this car is the 367th Chrysler for 1987 build! It's probably built on the first day of Production for the Model year.
I was never a fan of this model, but this one is way too nice to be in a junkyard. My guess is that someone's grandparents owned it, they passed away and their family did not cared about the car, but overpriced it. Nobody wanted it, so they sold it to the junkyard for 50$ just to get rid of it.
Cluster's worth about $300, the plastic dash face if it will come off without breaking is worth some money, that overhead console would probably sell also, it's rare. Steering wheel, too, it's different from most Mopar wheels that era and I sold a nice example of the common one for $75. Radio might be $50-$75, it fits a ton of other Mopars. That car is in nice shape, I would almost hate to tear it apart. It's not like the Lebaron convertible here, that once they set it up on stands you couldn't close the doors anymore. Gee no look underneath? lol Am amazed the hood ornament is still there.
My dad had an 84 K car New Yorker. Unfortunately it was equipped with the Mitsubishi 2.6L 4cyl “Hemi”. Don’t know how it got that knick name because that car was so gutless you had to turn the A/C off if you were going up a long hill. It would have been nice if it had this one’s 2.2L turbo. It also had the electronic talking dash which was annoying. All that aside, it did ride remarkably well for such a small car in the mid 1980s.
What was a clean 37 year old luxury Mopar shame too probably belong to older person who wasn't driving anymore or passed away. Never cared for Chrysler New Yorker from 80s maybe cause their where before my era but that 87 is mint .
Whats not to like? Good on gas, fully loaded, cheap and easy to repair… worlds most comfortable seats … Whoever sent that car there needs their head examined
That is too bad. These cars gave a pretty loyal following. I bet someone out there would have loved to have this car. I've seen these in Pick.a Part before where it looks like the owner probably died and the family sends it off to the junk yard. The last one was a pristine 1973 Lincoln Town Coupe. Triple blue with cloth interior. Not a scratch on it. Looked like it had been garage kept. Super sad.
I was there Saturday. I had a 84 turbo lebaron convertible I bought new. Was a great car till it hit 85k. Couldn't keep out of the shop and $$$$ to repair due to the turbo. Not like a parts house carried the parts.. This was before ebay.
Honest to God, that's a shame to see this car in the yard....boy, it doesn't seem like it would tak much to be on the road. There are so few left, there can't be a big demand for the parts ....E class models weren't the biggest sellers, the Larger 5th avenue sold like nuts

Put some pokes on it like they do in Houston Texas and that right there is something I would roll no doubt.... Even cross lace 13's just not reversed would be Rollin.
This looks like the kind of yard where they have already reported the title as scrapped to the state, so it"s impossible to buy the car whole. These yards tend to crush them pretty quick too. Would not be surprised if no parts are taken off before it meets the crusher.
Not really into 80's Mopars, but it is kind of stupid this is in a junkyard. I bet if you got a battery, threw the wheels back on & put fresh gas in it, that car would drive out of the yard under its own power. The previous owner obviously loved that car & garaged it its whole life and probably only recently died & their decendants made a poor decision. I bet they never even tried to sell it. I worked for a trash company as a truck mechanic for 12 years. Very often, we would get 40 or 50 cubic yard open top containers in that we all called "clean out load specials" They basically contained the entire life of "grandma & grandpa" Most times the contents were even neatly stacked. You would be amazed at what stupid children & grandchildren throw out as junk. Those loads were so desirable that fights almost broke out between employees a few times clambering to get to the goodies. Keep in mind this was 20 years ago and doing what we did then today by salvaging the great stuff is considered theft and would get you fired immediately and possibly arrested & prosecuted if you git caught.
I think Chrysler should’ve gone with the E body and phased out the K body. The E bodies were better proportioned and more attractive in stance and profile.
That's not the new Yorker I like but that interior is really nice shape..I would not mind restoring that one to the road I'd try buy that one from the yard and it's a turbo model too.thoes things rode better than a caddie..
Not bad car clean Ill don't mind Having a chrysler new Yorker luxury interior feel comfortable don't see those Around anymore probably the owner Die it junk didn't want sell it
You know who would've saved this car? Auto Auction Rebuilds, Monkey Wrench Mike, Dylan McCool, and Adventures Made from Scratch. What an absolute *WASTE* of a car! This could've been in Stranger Things!!! Sounds like Kelly wanted to drive her mom's POS BMW x5 instead of her grandparent's mint New Yorker to go to Texas University eh? The yard was too stupid to not have made a decision to even try to sell it! Bet the wheels and tires were mint as well!
Even though I am not a fan of these cars, this is obviously a total waste. Like someone could not have fixed whatever it needed and driven it around? I don't understand why people want to have car payments just to have a new (and super expensive) car when you could drive this and have NO car payments. You could have it as a second car and just use it to go shopping or drive around town. You don't have to go on long trips in it. Someone junked it because it was old, and they could only sell it for $1000, so it wasn't worth it to them. It's dumb.
If a Joe Biden car were to be from the 80s, it would be a Chevette or a Citation! Joe Biden is such a soft boy of GM CEO (clown) Mary Barra. He thinks GM is the leader the EV world! Ha! What a joke! Biden probably doesn't know that Tesla or Ford are car companies too lol

@@ClassicRideSociety oh hell I guess lol .. il go with it LoL 🤣
Shouldn’t be in there. It’s in better shape than my 77 Seville and that’s saying a lot! Hope she gets saved!
This looks like the kind of yard where they have already reported the title as scrapped to the state, so it"s impossible to buy the car whole. These yards tend to crush them pretty quick too. Would not be surprised if no parts are taken off before it meets the crusher.
@@kennethsouthard6042 That’s true, especially with those kinds of cars.
Worked on a used car lot after high school in the mid 80's, an yes they had plush interiors, but the motor's sucked!
Benny and the jets the kmart car lol
I'd pay 50k for that cream puff all day.
Not quite. This was still a K car underneath. You can't compare this to a Cadillac, even a front wheel drive of that vintage.
@@googleusergp lol haaa I think they rode pretty good tho
@@anthonycoach4551 Nothing like a Cadillac. LOL.
i like new yorker.
how can l agquire a car fro recovery bringingto Brazil!!!!
almost traded my caballero for one of these
That would have been a shame. LOL.
Not bad car clean Ill don't mind
Having a chrysler new Yorker luxury interior feel comfortable don't see those
Around anymore probably the owner Die it junk didn't want sell it
I prefer the 5th Avenue model that is rear wheel drive not the facsimile of a vehicle.
There were a couple of those in that yard as well. I made a video them too
@@ClassicRideSociety Thanks Benny 😊
Car is in great shape.
I hope u will post them I'm waiting
@@garymckee63 👍
Geesh milleneals dont know a good car when they see one 😥
Dam shame that these were ever called New Yorkers. It's a K car, Lee Iacoca sbox deluxe turbo junk
$75 scrap or a derby car if it runs. Lol
Danny could have fixed it up.
Unfortunately to see this in this straight condition in this junk yard it is salvageable.🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤷♂️
I agree
Can I Buy It?😃
I don't know if the yard will sell it once they have it out for parts. I doubt they would though
Whoever decided to junk this car should be pushed out of an airplane over Ukraine. Again I'm surprised the junkyard didn't try to sell it first.
Wow what a nice car what a waste I would make that into a lowrider
You know who would've saved this car? Auto Auction Rebuilds, Monkey Wrench Mike, Dylan McCool, and Adventures Made from Scratch.
What an absolute *WASTE* of a car! This could've been in Stranger Things!!!
Sounds like Kelly wanted to drive her mom's POS BMW x5 instead of her grandparent's mint New Yorker to go to Texas University eh?
The yard was too stupid to not have made a decision to even try to sell it! Bet the wheels and tires were mint as well!
turdbo
Even though I am not a fan of these cars, this is obviously a total waste. Like someone could not have fixed whatever it needed and driven it around? I don't understand why people want to have car payments just to have a new (and super expensive) car when you could drive this and have NO car payments. You could have it as a second car and just use it to go shopping or drive around town. You don't have to go on long trips in it. Someone junked it because it was old, and they could only sell it for $1000, so it wasn't worth it to them. It's dumb.
What a waste
This is a Joe Biden car.
🤔😆👍
Come on oldskool, you know you like it
@@ClassicRideSociety It should be parked outside the white house.
