To be honest. I like the interaction between Fluttershy and Pinkie in the episode. It show how much Pinkie's opinion on Flutters has changed for 'we can't prank Fluttershy, she's so sensitive. It'll hurt her feelings, even our most harmless prank' in season one.
The only thing that bothers me about it is that after this episode, we never see the Pony Tones again the rest of the series. They're not even mentioned or referred to, so we never get to see Fluttershy performing with them (without hiding). "Baby steps, every pony. Baby steps." We see in season 7 how she's become more assertive and come out of her shy zone, to a point anyway, and we never see her actually perform again. And no, Horse Play of season 8, doesn't count in this case.
Fluttershy didn't really give an answer to the question when they asked what was so bad about her experience. I believe the implication was that once they asked her she realized that it really wasn't all the bad after all. The bad stuff was all in her own head. She had built up the fear and dread so much that it took the point-blank question for her to realize that when push came to shove the thing she had been afraid of simply hadn't materialized.

She improves so much over the series, but a lot of people fail to see that especially early on because it's a very slow, natural and realistic progression. I mean, she's hardly scared of her own shadow anymore, she's slowly tackling the "being assertive but not too assertive" obstacle, and now she's working on getting over her stage fright. Pinkie's insanity kinda lowers my enjoyment of this episode, though. Amy Keating Rogers was one of her best writers, which makes it even weirder how off she was here. I get Pinkie's over-the-top but her insanity is about the exact opposite of making others cry; it's about making others laugh. I think there's only one other episode where she dips even lower in her writing, but that's one of the worst episodes in general and luckily after Season 4 she goes mostly back to her old self again.

I think Hurricane Fluttershy, Keep Calm and Flutter on and the most recent Fluttershy episode are better. But this was sweet and the music lovely.
