The 2025 IB Biology curriculum introduces a streamlined, thematic structure focused on four main themes-Unity and Diversity, Form and Function, Interaction and Interdependence, Continuity and Change-across levels of biological organization. This replaces the previous structure of core units and options, aiming for a more integrated approach. The removal of specialized options and the embedding of their topics within the main themes reduce content volume, enabling deeper conceptual connections. Assessment formats have been updated to align with the thematic content, emphasizing skills and inquiry-based learning over prescribed practicals. Additionally, the curriculum enhances focus on the nature of science, aiming to deepen students’ understanding of scientific practices and their implications.
