  • In this video I start pruning a mini Christmas tree that I bought as a decoration over the Christmas period. My plan is to keep the tree as a bonsai in a Christmas tree style so that I can keep it small and use it year after year as decoration. The plant was not labelled when I bought it but I think its a Picea glauca 'conica'.
    Thanks for watching

Virtually any tree can be made into a bonsai, although some are easier than others, out of your seeds Oak would probably make a nicer looking tree. Sycamore has large leaves and so doesn't look very good as a bonsai. Holly is difficult as the leaves are so spikey and also pretty large. The best of our local trees are silver birch, hawthorn and larch. Cotoneaster is also good and as it self seeds like a weed you can easily find seedlings around most gardens.
