I felt terrible when the Colts lost that Super Bowl. One Colt player said that the team did, indeed, take the Jets seriously, but Baltimore looked flat and blew chance, after chance, to put the Jets away early. You don't allow great teams like the Jets those chances.
I, personally, thought the Raiders were a stronger team than the Jets, but it is a moot point now. Jets beat everybody they had to beat. They deserved the trophy.

The abysmal playing conditions of these fields never ceases to amaze me. Late-season and playoff games in Cleveland, Baltimore, Buffalo, Washington and Atlanta, to name a few, were guaranteed to feature fields more closely resembling a blind farmer's plowing efforts than a professional football surface. Even the two league's showcase game a season later in New Orleans (Super Bowl IV) was played in a quagmire. It's surprising that more players weren't injured by these fields due to loose, wet grass and muddy conditions.

Natural turf is what I miss most about old school football. As a kid growing up I loved watching a game in challenging conditions. And I think I still would if played on natural turf. Used to love to play sandlot football in the rain and snow. Come home and look at myself in the mirror as if a dirty, bloody football jersey was a badge of honor.

In 1968 the AFL had 10 teams in 2 divisions. The NFL had 16 teams in 4 divisions. Before going to New York the Raiders had to play that divisional tiebreaker game against the Chiefs, there was no tiebreaker "system" back then to it was setteled by an extra game. The Jets won their division outright. For the AFL's last year in 1969 they set up a 4-team / 2-round system of the 1st and 2nd place teams from each of their 2 divisions. After that the AFL merged into NFL with 2 conferences the AFC and NFC. The NFL sent the Browns, Steelers, and Colts to the AFC to balance them both out.

True, although a lot of the rest of the AAFC was subpar to the NFL, again..except the BROWNS..
The AAFC was either 80 percent or in the last season, 70 percent the size of the NFL, yet even accounting for that size difference, THE AAFC produced far fewer ALL-PROS AND HALL OF FAME GUYS THAN THE NFL..WITH A SIZE ADJUSTMENT USING MATH, ALMOST 60 PERCENT OF 1940'S AND 1950'S HALL'S GUYS never played in the AAFC, WITHOUT THE adjustment, it was in reality much higher HALL REPRESENTATION FOR THE NFL..FEW AAFC GUYS WERE ON THE ALL-PRO WRITERS' TEAMS FROM '46-49 WHILE THE LEAGUE WAS STILL ALIVE. CLEVELAND was 53-4-3 IN THE AAFC= NFL CALIBER TEAM in the AAFC, featuring black players BREAKING THE COLOR BARRIER, such as rback M.MOTLEY, HORACE GILLOM the outstanding punter, and D-LINEMAN BILL WILLIS, but above all, white as snow QBACK OTTO GRAHAM was the STAR..an understatement. He was in a titlegame every season of his pro career(10 in ftball, 1 in HOOPS), won 8 of those titles, 7 in FTBALL(ALBEIT 4 IN THE WEAKER AAFC), AND 3 IN THE NFL, WITH ONE IN THE NBL(ROCHESTER ROYALS now known as the SACRAMENTO KINGS) his only season in the hoops league..before he ever played a down in pro ball, for his total magnificance.

Scoring summary in the description is cool.
2:14- Is Kelly in the HOF? He was among the best during that era but seems to have been forgotten these days.
2:25- The announcer was gonna say something about the ground level camera before being cut off. I remember the "ground level" replay. It was a big deal in those days. Not sure why.
3:12- I remember the Browns being the winningest team at that point. Ran into a bit of a drought since.
4:15- I like the background music choice but starting to get annoyed with the volume at this point. What with the announcers in the video clips being barely audible, the music isn't really in the background.
5:20- Nobody really gave a sh*t about the AFL in those days except for maybe Oakland vs KC. That was one of the better rivalry games back then.
9:35-They put Unitas in and he led them to their only TD. This season was my first as an NFL fan, and consequently my first Super Bowl. Geez, I was so young. Can't believe how much I remember, although the memories are foggy. Seems like they put Unitas in very late in the game, which makes me wonder now why he didn't start. The way I remember it, the reason was he was injured, yet he came in the game eventually. This clip didn't show it, but I seem to remember the Colts running a trick play while Unitas was in, some kind of reverse where Matte, I think, lateralled the ball back to Unitas who threw a long pass. Which was picked off as I remember. Kind of a dagger for the Colts, but as I recall, they were already beat at that point and this was a desperation play.
