    It looks as though I could reach into your painting and touch a handful of soft petals. I think it's a beautiful job. Well done in my eyes!

    Your step by step process is super helpful. And you make the bold layering with contrasting colours less scary to try! Thanks so much for this!

    First, lazy is not how I'd describe you! Second, it helps me to watch you apply layer after layer of color. It's one of my biggest lessons from you, being patient with the process which includes all those layers and letting them dry. Third, the way you are using color is helpful as well and gives me lots to think about.

    I have often heard the terms layering and glazing but to see them in use by an exceptional artist is most helpful. Thank you for sharing.

    absolutely, amazing, Francoise! That peony is so beautiful. I always learn something from each one of your videos. Watching this peony go from pretty to stunning with every layer added is so helpful. it’s scary for me sometimes to keep adding more layers and contrast because I’m afraid to ruin my painting. This is another reminder of what a difference it makes - so I won’t just settle for ok but will take courage and go for it!
    Please know that all of us who watch your videos appreciate all the time and effort you invest in creating them and making the instruction so clear and easy to follow. Thank you! 🥰

      This is exactly what I wanted to express as well. My paintings have been looking so flat and I want to practice adding in lowlights to compliment the highlights, and by the time I get to a certain point in the painting, I'm afraid to ruin it, since I've spent such a long time sketching and painting already. The darker colors tend to look too harsh to me and I end up just blending them in because I don't like them. My husband suggested practice only doing one component of the painting until I feel like I "get" how to do it. Then it will be easier to use the techniques in my more complex paintings. This video was helpful on a lot of levels, so thank you!

    My gosh, that is gorgeous. I find watercolor is the hardest paint I've tried. I enjoy it, especially because it's so easy to clean up and non staining if I get it on myself, but for the life of me I can't seem to figure out how much water to add, lol. I finally bought some good cotton paper so maybe that will help.

      Thank you 🙂 yes water control and ratios can be difficult at first.

      @@paintingandchocolate Our climate is semi arid and it can be so frustrating to watch (especially British) painters fling some water on their cotton paper and paint for what seems like half an hour, while mine starts to dry immediately, even loaded. Maybe l should start a "Watercolour for desert dwellers" channel devoted to water management -- of a different sort.

    I definitely appreciate your input on how to make a painting more realistic, visually pleasing, & vibrant. Your explanation of painting is very interesting & easy to understand for me to be able to achieve success with doing more layering of colors, details, & highlights to my own paintings. These four tips/techniques are inspiring & instrumental. Thanks 😊 so much for sharing this with us! Gorgeous peony painting!

    This painting and your technique is fabulous. I’m really curious about the brushes you use. I could see you were swapping back-and-forth with a couple different types while you were working on the flower. Can you tell me what brushes you were using? Also when you were doing the background, was it a wet and wet technique? Thank you for all you do to bring great art and techniques to us Artists still honing our craft.

    I love this, but i still can't figure the difference between glazing and layering?? It seems to be the same to me,,adding more color over painted areas??

    • @paintingandchocolate
      @paintingandchocolate  Месяц назад

      Layerinh is more to add depth,contrast with the goal to finish the piece with thicker, more pigmented paints, while glazing, i see it like an addition meant to add color or glow to a finished artwork, we play with the fact colors are transparent and leverage that, with a light wash of paint. That's how use these techniques.

    What is the difference between layering and glazing?

    • @paintingandchocolate
      @paintingandchocolate  Месяц назад

      With glazing the luminosity and transparency of a color is at play and purposefully leveraged. For example you could layer a dark Brown on top of a light one to add shadow. But you could glaze a bright color like yellow or quinadrinone gold to brighten this up in seconds.
