ABSOLUTELY an EPIC pleasure reaction to Thank You Scientist song SWARM. Thanks to all of you that left the comments to check them out!
#thankyouscientist #swarm #reactionvideo
Fun Fact: The two guitars you mention at 14:15 two guitars are not just guitars, one of them is actually an electric violin that rocks really hard.
Love this band. They are like Rush meets dream theater meets Chicago meets Mars Volta....organized chaos.
Those were the EXACT groups I was going to comment! What a trip!
With a dash of gruvis malt
they got fallout boy in there
I hear a little Dance Gavin Dance esp. the vocalist
@@Onoroian id say that dgd just got their inspiration from similar places. because they're both progressive rock and post hardcore inspired bands. thank you scientist's early stuff was definitely post-hardcore adjacent the same way dgd is, just with stronger progressive influence. mars volta type sound
The live version of their song 'Anchor' off the same album is absolutely fantastic, and it's really weird to see how the singer looks compared to how he sounds
This band is CRIMINALLY underrated!! So glad he’s checking them out 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Blood on the radio, carnival, Mr invisible and the somnambulist are must listens by these guys. One of the best prog bands out rn
The instrumental section in Mr. Invisible is one of my favorite parts of any song. To add on your recommendations, I love Rube Goldberg Variations for its more jazz-leaning structure, and it's definitely worth a listen if you're into instrumentals.
Party all the time
Wolf in Cheap Clothing and Salesman's Guide. Homestly. Every song I've heard by them I love.
Blood on the Radio is the first song I heard by Thank You Scientist, and it's still my favourite (and probably always will be). I would love to see a reaction to it as well!
don’t forget Psychopomp!!!
Incredibly talented group that writes complex musical arrangements
Unusually there is a violinist doubling lots of the guitar and horn lines. Features a little more on other songs but super clean playing!
oh my god, this is precisely Plini mixed with Dirty Loops mixed with Coheed and Cambria mixed with Snarky Puppy... i love it
There's a little protest the hero sprinkled in there too
Coheed represent!
I was thinking the same thing, and so I looked it up to see if there was any members etc. Nope, however they are signed to the Coheed singers own label, and first act he signed, so I guess there's an influence there...
@@ouroborosrecords yeah saw them in '15 when they first signed & opened for Coheed. wow, such a sick live show
They actually signed to Claudio's record label, Everything Ink Records.
"Somebody gave an 8 ball to Snarky Puppy" Sums it up pretty well, nearly choked on my coffee when you dropped that line! Love the reactions, keep them coming bro
Shout out to Faye Fadem's beautifully fast and playful style on this track. Apparently it's one of the harder ones in their discography to drum live but she always nails it.
I love this band. The vocals give me coheed and cambria vibes
This band is signed to coheed's label
@@albreezy26 I saw them open for Coheed 6ish years ago. I had no idea what I was in for and was pleasantly surprised.
I had to Google them to check if that was Claudio on vocals.
@@jaredwood2311 if it was that time where polyphia was on the bill then I saw them as well at Stubbs in Austin
@@albreezy26 it was the IKSSE3 tour. Lots of substances were consumed. Much fun was had.
Mastodon - The Last Baron. Great modern prog metal
that or the czar!
Oblivion
“This is like, complete theatre to the mind” - Finally, someone has put it in a nutshell. Thank you sir! Yes, a journey indeed. Everyday Ghosts will require an overnight bag
Decomposer is a double entendre! Breaking down, ya know? YESSS Thank You Scientist!! Good time to go down the TYS rabbit hole. They have a new album coming out soon. These guys really deserve more recognition. There is a fantastic amount of variety in their sound and they love experimenting.
What? They're going to release a new album? Where did you hear this? I am so excited if that's true, though I don't know how they're going to top Terraformer, such a great album.
@@aliqzakry834 I attended their online Halloween concert and the Q&A session afterward. During the Q&A they said that everything for the new album was just about recorded and the sax player was in the middle of doing some mixing. I imagine it will be out some time between March and June.
"they were right in front of me, and I could feel the muting, I could feel the air moving"
Dude, the concert experience of this band is absolutely bananas. Those tailed staccatos or whatever you'd call it, in a live setting, right up in front of those amplifiers is ASTOUNDING. And their timing too, when they play those really complex odd rhythms all in sync, that's not engineering magic and 50 takes, they're really that much in the groove. It's incredible. Catch em if you can
"Caotic freakshow that actually makes sense"
I think that makes it for the perfect definition of the band
Giving an 8 ball to snarjt puppy is the best description of Thank You Scientist I have ever heard
Dude, you're listening to literally every band I've gotten into in the last year. Thank You Scientist, Karnivool, Opeth, Tesseract, Jinjer...and even Periphery, which I've been listening to longer before I started taking a chance on all these other bands.
You might want to check out Leprous next. That's another one on my list. As for Thank You Scientist, I don't like to recommend my favorite songs to people new to the band. I want to warm them up to it first...but if you listen to Anchor, definitely do a video for it. Maybe you should check out Need More Input next...
That's a good year my man!
I'll second a leprous song for sure!
Leprous! Hell yeah!
These guys are so good live you can literally use Shazam while they are playing and it'll work.
If you like the rock opera/musical vibe, check out "Mute" by Native Construct
Native Construct has such a great album. Too bad that it was only a one-time project.
@@liliIiliIilil Yep. No more Native Construct stings as much as no more Porcupine Tree or Fair to Midland :(
Why is literally no one recommending The Contortionist yet????
Bruh for real.
@@complexdevice I feel like I have to post these types of comments because too many progheads don't want any type of core in their music. They used to have deathcore elements.
@@jasonlovesmusicreacting882 core/prog crossovers are the best though.
@@complexdevice I know man. I'm also surprised no one has recommended Veil Of Maya or ERRA on here. Like I said, I really think there is that strange divide on this channel, from what I've noticed.
@@jasonlovesmusicreacting882 Hell yeah! Add Novelists also.
Leprous - the sky is red - drum play through ....... epic
I second this
The Live performance tho...
@@complexdevice nah the drum playthrough is absolutely incredible
Contaminate me: rockerfeller center live.
or castaway angels. Castaway Angels is a view changer if you've not been into Leprous before - I've been with Leprous a while and it kind of floored me, even still. The composition is STUPID complex on such a mild and calm song.
@@russellzauner Castaway Angels is super underrated imo.
This is my favourite band of all time... they set new standards in music for me with each and every album. I can't image what will their next one be like, but I'm quite sure it will be unbelievable as always :D Cool reaction BTW :)
The video for their amazing cover of My Girl likes to party all the time will blow you away. So tight.
This album is an incredible piece, really recommend the full listen!
A Salesman's Guide to Non-Existence - Thank You Scientist
YES!!!!! Thank you scientist!!! These guys are legit!
TYS is literally my favorite modern band. Mind-blowingly good. Please, please, please check out their live solar powered session performance of FXMLDR
Please do anchor live at backroom studios such an amazing performance.!!!!! Thanks for this!
The drums are a masterclass in recording and mixing.
Glad you enjoyed this so much! They are indeed so technical and eclectic yet also so catchy and fun. These guys' composition style reminds me so much of Between the Buried and Me but just jazz rock fusion prog instead of prog metal.
I would have picked ruclips.net/video/rxrz6RPSww0/видео.html but that's just me :-)
I love the performances...good old band geekery.
@@russellzauner yeah this video is the best!
Duds funny how you say that. Seeing BTBAM with them June 25.
PLEASE do more Thank You Scientist. Been one of my favourite bands for a while now so it's awesome to see you do your videos on them
Saw them open up for Devin Townsend Project & Animals as Leaders in 2016. They were amazing live and they've only gotten better since then, at least for me. If you can find a video of them playing "Thank you for Being a Friend", you should definitely check it out.
Animals as leaders is a WAY underrated group of musicians.
First heard of TYS via Ben Levin and his band Bent Knee. Glad to see them here!
I was the opposite. I learned about Bent Knee when I saw them open for TYS. Ended up buying three Bent Knee CDs at the TYS show.
If you like the theatrical style of music, you should give The Dear Hunter a chance. Listen to their song A Night On the Town.
I know some of these guys personally... more of past acquaintances than anything but great dudes. amazing musicians. glad you're hearing them for the first time!
Everyone I met was awesome. I yet to have Sals autograph on any of my vinyls from them.
YO NO WAY I love Thank You Scientist. So cool you're checking them out.
For more Thank You Scientist, Son of a Serpent may be their masterpiece. IMO, best new prog band out there today.
I've been revisiting Life of Vermin lately and that track is also a serious jam.
Great pick Geebz. This album, Terraformer, is full of fantastic prog fusion journeys similar to this one. TYS is so beautifully technical. I always feel like I can pick up something new, regardless of how many times I've heard their albums.
I wish I could like this video more than once!
Me too. Great band, song and reaction. I want more please. Lol.
Mr. invisible popped into my Spotify recommendation and I couldn’t stop listening to their songs
Their song The Arsonist's Handbook got me hooked. Great vid :)
I get AFib, and the intro to this song is how I explain to people what my heart does when I go into it.
Dude... I'm so happy that you're listening to Thank You Scientist. I first saw them completely at random, hadn't even heard of them before, at a Coheed and Cambria show... Fuckin great show, man. These guys rock!
First time I'd heard any of their music was in the same scenario you mentioned, opening for C&C. I had NO idea what I was witnessing or hearing at the time. I'm disappointed it took me so long to circle back to them, listen to them and appreciate them. Would kill to see them live again.
@@weaponofchoice31 I saw them again about 6 months after the first time. This time they were at a smaller venue and it was just them. Great show. Totally worth it to go see them once all this shit is over with and concerts can happen again.
@@ridiculousedtollett6120 Just them? Was it the impromptu Reggie's rock club show in Chicago? If so, what an incredible show. Their van broke down mid tour while passing by so they just booked the club for that night and there were probably less than 50 people there. It was a bit before this album came out and I think it was the first time they played anything off of it live. So glad I saw their instagram post announcing it was happening about 4 hours before it did.
@@mikemitchell6815 It was actually Thank You Scientist, Cursive, and Coheed and Cambria at a small venue in Wichita. Great show.
@@ridiculousedtollett6120 I was at that show at the cotillion. I came into already having seen TYS on the IKSSE3 Neverender tour. Nobody knew what was coming it seemed and I was so ready for that early scientist jams.
This band was found by Coheed and Cambria front man Claudio Sanchez. I as well saw them for the first time with Coheed and immediately bought their first album Maps of non existent places. Mind blowing these guys. My wife says it makes her head hurt trying to listen to it. Pure musical genius. I believe Coheed to be underrated as well.
Their singer sounds like a mixture between Claudio and Michael Jackson ^^
Wow love this band. First time hearing them.
Pro tip: when the video makes it to the end, there is a replay icon that pops up. If you are replaying the video, adds don't interrupt it.
You're welcome.
Thank You Scientist is a killer band. All their albums are stellar. Great job covering them.
They are just as good live too, it is fucking wild
Chromology by this band is great and so is Rube Goldberg Variations just to name a few
I can't remember the name of the song, but their guitar player plays on a fretless guitar. Not bass, but guitar. It's insane watching him run sweeps on that
That would be Terraformer my guy!
Whoever did this arrangement is a madman. Fuuuuuuu
Damn, mind blown again, boss. Definitely gonna dive deep into these guys!
Discovered this band about a month ago.. the singer's voice makes me think of Michael Jackson and Brian Urie (Fall Out Boy), with a sprinkle of Spocks Beard.. cant get enough of these guys!
Caverns is a GREAT track from these guys, worth a listen for sure
First but.wont be the last. Greatest band ever!
Life of Vermin, Anchor, Geronimo, Leave your light on.
Check out Wobbler - “From Silence To Somewhere” and “Dwellers of The Deep”. Also, The Aristocrats!
From Silence to Somewhere would be amazing. Perfect modern prog rock.
@@RanchElder Yes! Every bit as good as the best classic prog songs. Here's a link to Wobbler's From Silence to Somewhere: ruclips.net/video/BxheA86FODg/видео.html
I second The Aristocrats! Guthrie is a guitar god.
Thank you scientist is one of the best bands ever. Songs never get old, and they just put you in a good mood.
This was my first time hearing these geniuses and I'm now heading down this rabbit hole 100% 🤘
"Theater of the mind" brilliant. Might take that lol
They really hit their stride with this album
For more genre crossing, similar but different thing, I recommend Diablo Swing Orchestra.
One of the best albums of all time! Great vid
The Dear Hunter is astounding and has a very big band influenced sound mixed with prog rock.
Their music is best listened to in album sized chunks since songs blend into one another and there is a narrative to the lyrics.
For a good starting song, I'd recommend "Is Anybody There?" or "The Pimp and The Priest" or "The Bitter Suite I and II: Meeting Ms. Leading and Through The Dime".
Intervals - by far and away, amazing solo work
I dig it.
Thank you scientist is probably one of the coolest bands I've ever heard. So intricate and you have to love the horns.
Songs from thank you scientist to check out: Feed your horses, salesmans, Mr invisible, rube Goldberg (incredible instrumental piece), suspicious waveforms (another incredible instrumental only piece), blue automatic. All great songs from them. Glad they have toured with coheed and cambria to finally get some exposure.
I just found a new band to dive into. Hell yeah...thanks whoever recommended this one.
Every song is great. Yet to be disappointed.
Snarky Puppy came to mind also.
TYS one of the most underated band out there.
Every time i hear paiste cymbals and double pedal kick drums...I’m back on stage with my high school jazz band... right in line with “the older i get, the greater i was.”
God, how wonderful is that oO. A new band for my own soundtrack of life
I dunno how the hell I've been subscribed for 6 months and only finding this video now... TYS is one of my favorite bands!
Ah yes, that RUclips algorithm :(
I have terraformer on vinyl this is a god tier album that still gives me chills when I listen to it. Geronimo and anchor are prolly my fave tracks off that album.
Here are some more prog bands for you to check out. 12 Foot Ninja, Flux Conduct, Haken, Leprous. Definitely Haken or Leprous.
Yes, please check out 12 Foot Ninja. Great band there.
OOOH! 12 Foot Ninja - Ain't That a Bitch is an incredible composition.
Leprous The Shy is Red
Haken. Cockroach King please.
@@Smac2321 aye
Love seeing all the king gizz suggestions. Give them a shot!
Thank you for doing Thank You Scientist!!!
Please do king gizzard and the lizard wizard! They do cool psychedelic/progressive rock among other genres.
This and phish!
YES! CRUMBLING CASTLE!
Not gonna mention that they play microtonal? I think that's their big selling point.
Any of the microtonal stuff would be cool to see on here. Billabong valley, rattlesnake or straws in the wind just off the top of my head
@@justaname2422 😴😴😴😴
Discovered these guys a couple of years ago, got hooked straight away... new drummer for this album (and hopefully on future albums) is exactly what this band needed.
Mr Invisible!!!!! amazing song by TYS
saw them in '15 when they opened for Coheed & Cambria (Claudio signed them to his label), they played "Feed Your Horses" to start off.......and holy shit, what an amazing live show 🤘🔥🍻 I've dubbed them in the "Funk Metal" class
I can't believe I missed this reaction. I'm going to see Thank You Scientist with Rivers of Nihil and Between the Buried and Me the end of July in Winston Salem, NC. I love all three bands so it should be epic. I really enjoy your work Geebz!
Bent Knee is a great band that toured with Thank You Scientist. Definitely proggy and polyrhythmic but not as heavy as a lot of the stuff you do. Their guitarist Ben Levin puts out great vids here on RUclips as well.
For something heavier I highly suggest Their Dogs Were Astronauts. Get Up is a great song of theirs to look at. They also have one called Contortionist thats a more popular song of theirs, but im partial to the former because its deceptively upbeat and pop-ish.
Saw Bent Knee with Leprous and Haken. It was a great night of bands that are quite different, yet worked really well as a total package. Bent Knee has this chaotic energy around them, but in the way an explosion or an accident looks beautiful in slow motion. It’s not as loud or scary when viewed that way, but the end result is the same. They just always seem to be having fun.
Another Thank You Scientist song you should really try is Chromology. Fully instrumental craziness.
This song makes me want to mosh and sing loudly at my desk ❤😊
Saw these guys open for Coheed & Cambria years ago. Instantly fell in love with their style and performance.
best band right now
You found Thank You Scientist, very cool! They've been one my favorites for some time now. I'll stick with my suggestion, Frost's "The Dividing Line". That being said, really just about anything from them is awesome.
I found your channel when you did a reaction for Coheed and Cambria and I find out that you’re doing Thank You Scientist too???? How amazing 🤩
Thank you
I found so many cool bands thanks to you, thanks pal
To my ears it sounds like a crossover between "The Mars Volta" and "Coheed and Cambria".
Blood on the radio is a must !
A band I for some reasons heard about for a long time, knowing they had connections to Coheed and Cambria, but it was only within the last year that I listened to them at all and was kicking myself for never giving them a go, almost like I didn't want a band to outdo what Coheed had already done for me! These guys are very in the same vein, but yes, "on crack" and it's a wonder Coheed put them on their label and tours with them! one of my favorite bands right now, for sure!
Snarky Puppy has love child with Coheed and Cambria who was then raised by Cory Wong and Dirty Loops.
Quite a ride, wasn't it? :D I've seen them live twice and they're even scarier in person.
rush meets mars volta and adds jazz.
You really must do Haken. They are at the forefront of prog rock right now. Just an absolutely amazing band.
My fav track off this album is Chromology. Siiiiick bass solo in that
Please react to David Maxim Micic, Where is Now
The guitarist Tom Monda took lessons from virtuoso Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal who has quite an impressive catalog himself. Also someone mentioned The Aristocrats which is another prog fusion band of note, pretty much any of their songs would be worth checking out!
