Wow, aren't these the laziest lyrics I've ever seen from France? What happened, guys? XD
Firstly and most importantly, no, I don't follow the series. I simply came across this song and liked it pretty quite a lot, so I took a quick look at the plot to figure out the general story behind the track and translated it. That's all.
It appears that Canada did not dub the series and used the European version instead, in which most actors reprised their roles from the main movie (e.g. Rapunzel, Eugene...).
