I just dug out my old ocean blackfish (luderick) rod which is 45 years old. You have inspired me to restore this rod for my grandson who has turned out to be a keen fisherman.
I have the exact opposite story, grew up fishing with my grandpa on his small boat, just found the rods we used to use 20 years ago, my plan is to restore them and get my own boat to use them on.
The older blanks were something special, Ed, and there was always a magical feel walking through the doors of one of the traditional fishing shops, having a yarn, browsing the walls full of tackle, peering through the glass cabinets...losing all concept of time. You don't get that same feeling walking into BCF.
bought plenty of gear back in the day from Bob Turton and Barry Clark at West End Sports, that is probably a Snyder glass blank. Still have a number of rods in use including a 4144 Blackfish rod (around 30years old). Best blackfish rod for ocean rocks I have ever used
Hi, I remember Gary being there at West end Sport & Tackle as well. Taught me to Fly fish back in the early 90's Can't remember if it was Gazza or Bazza one of them did. Cheers Steve
Looks great Ed ! Can’t wait to see you land a fish on it ! The blank looks near on identical to the Snyder MT 4144 I built in the early 90s and my mate still uses it as a general purpose light beach rod - reminds me I still have the Snyder mag bream i also built in the 90s I want to tidy up .
Hi Edd just wondering what type of epoxy did you put on the blank of this rod to bring it up to be amazing. I want to restore one of my late fathers rods and i would like to restore it as good as you did to yours. Thank Edd love your channel

An awesome restoration.
Thank you for sharing. ❤
Impressed as ever with your skills Ed, nothing like the feeling of glass for casting and playing fish.
Thanks mate appreciate the comment. I can't get enough of these blanks.

Good to hear. I wasn't sure if it was a Butterworth or Snyder blank. Either way they are both good blanks.
