Grabbed one of these from Sweetwater. Love the form factor. But, to me, it seems to color the sound more than the Klark-Teknik. K-T sounds warmer.
Also, sorry I distracted you at the park. However, I was there first.
I knew that dude looked familiar lol
And that's fair
Laughed my head off..... the things you have to put up with to put out content. Great review too. Thanks mate.
Thanks John!
definitely like the looks of this one vs the klark teknik booster
Agree 100%
Man you even sound good out in the wild!! Cool concept! Sounded great!
Awwwwwesome
I was listening to this without watching as I was doing something and then I heard 1:06. WTF did Bark say!?🤣🤣🤣
Awesome find, Bark! The market is always in need of a Mic Booster! I'm Sorry you saw something in the bushes 😂
So many bushes
Sorry but i dont understood, when is necessary to use it? For example i currently using a usb audio interface will be necessary yo use it? how it works?* The mic has an specific supported db?
Depends on if you have to crank your gain and introduce noise to your recording. Honestly these preamps are almost not needed these days unless you have an old interface you love that has a weak preamp
Ooooo man Bark!! The PL-10 🫠
Such a fun mic to take places
Here I am doing all these things to capture different backgrounds in my own office .. and you’re going mobile - dude - so freaking smart!!! I am trying to save up to get a PL-10 off eBay, but now I am trying to get gear for a 4 person podcast where we can all be in the same room. (Podtrak p4 and 4 k669ds ) not trying to go all out until I know they’re all stuck around. 😂
@levelupwithmikenewman heck the p4 and 4 Fifine’s will make a great show
And yeah I am gonna switch it up on devices with minimal features…gonna do an obscure thoughts podcast outside today!
Nice video! What would you recommend for a booster/preamp for a low output dynamic under $50Usd? I'm able to get the mic link for $30 or the teyun q2 for about $12. Do you think theres a big difference between the two? Thanks
I do. The behringer is a lot safer, as the teyun can be noisy. I go behringer
He went for a hat trick? Impressive.
Younger fella living his best life
He was showing off his preamp
@GuilDormeus more like a mic booster
Don't need one at all, but that won't stop me from buying one if I see it in the wild (it it becomes available up here - so far it's not).
Had no idea Beringer owns TC Helicon...that's nutty...like the squirrel lol!
Sticky squirrel
Poor squirrel!
Yer killin' me, Bark!
Who me?
Would this protect a mic from the phantom power on a mixer that has only phantom on/off for all channels? Like the Zoom L-8?
Yes it would
@@ObscureMics Thanks a lot! 👍
There is absolutely nothing wrong with running preamp gain at 8 out of 10 if you need to.... or even higher. With most interfaces that have decent built in preamps there is no need for a mic booster, you are simply wasting your money.
If you have a device with la truly lousy mic input... there really aren't many out there lately but some of the cheaper handheld recorders like a Zoom are crappy enough that they can benefit from using a booster as it actually results in a lower noise floor. Most interfaces however like the basic Focusrite Scarlet are just fine cranking the mic gain to even 100% (if needed) so an external booster is not necessary in most cases.
Agree 100% but the gearhead in me has to test them regardless
@ObscureMics I can see wanting to check them out but explaining to people what this thing actually does and why they might or might not need to spend $35 on this product seems like it should be part of any good review of these mic boosters.
As to the phantom not working on the Go, were you running on batteries? These mic boosters don't use a ton of current but I would imagine that if the batteries are low it might not be able to power the booster.
I do everything on the fly unapologetically. I state quite often that I’m not the source of professionalism with information. Just having a good time using gear
I think there’s a misconception that everyone wants to be considered a pro reviewer, or the next this guy or that guy. That’s not me. I do what I can when I can, and that’s just it.
Hey man, can you confirm if this Behringer Mic Link preamp still requires *my own* phantom power supply to work, cuz the product description itself seems a bit ambiguous on this
Gonna get this for my SM7b and I’ve a Scarlett Solo 3rd gen interface
It will work with the Scarlett’s phantom power
@@ObscureMics ok thx, confirmed this needs to be fed with a 48v too after found the user manual online. I got confused by the general statement they advertised “Phantom powered with no need for external power supply”, which made me thought this stuff itself has 48v built-in lol.
For the price of less than $40, this is definitely gonna be a steal deal in contrast to the hundred $-ish Fethead.
5$ cheap dynamic mic with this would make good mic?
Depends on the $5 mic. But also keep in mind that it’s rare to need a mic booster these days
@ObscureMics would mic booster reducing noise? im using m audio solo interface and few cheap random dynamic mic, the gain on 5 a clock but the noise kinda unbearable. would this help?
@SaKa-ex2nb hmmmm noise shouldn’t be unbearable on a 5. Can you send me a sample?
Would you still get that $8 Teyun mic booster over this one? Or is it worth the extra money?
That’s a good question. I’d probably roll with the teyun
Save your money, get the fethead. Or even a better preamp like a 1073 clone
Dont spend more than 30-40 dollars on whichever preamp you choose to buy
@@theoutsiderjess1869 there is a reason you cant buy even the parts on their own to make your own for that price. Longevity and quality in parts costs, as does signal checking through a batch. The really cheap stuff cuts too many corners.
OK, here's a REAL comment. It may be that your first interface only puts out 12V (phantom power) instead of 48V.
It claims 48 🤷♂️
@@ObscureMics Gotta voltmeter? plug the negative lead into the hole for pin 1, and the positive lead into either of the others. Ideally, it should be 48V +/-1V.
@ScottGrammer I should, but I do not
I need a podcast with you and that guy ASAP 😅
Oh man. I gotta find this dude again. That would be epic
I had the same experience with lack of gain
Interesting! Same interface?
seems strange not to see any mountains in the background
I tried to mimick the place I was in lol
Audio engineers named Bark... heehee Arf!
Barkdango! Love it
Oh man. If that guy is going to be hanging around we need to get you a poncho or something. Umbrella maybe.
I think I have a small nerf shield in my trunk
@@ObscureMics That could work. Great video by the way. Idk if I need one or two of these but I may get them just in case. Thanks for scoping out affordable gear for the world. Your channel is underrated and it’s a crime in my opinion.
Appreciate that! I’m super happy with the channel simply for the folks who enjoy it, and the fact that you al let me know. It is appreciated
So Behringer can still make something decent, just not a mic 😂
lol correct
😂
XM8500, anyone?
Best mic and maybe the only good mic they have made
@@ObscureMics No argument there. I'm glad I got one for 20 bucks. The build quality is seriously impressive.
Big question is, was it Uli? You can tell by the eye contact. 😂😂😂
Seriously, this looks like another rip-off of a product still in production. Avoid.
Shockingly no lol
imaginary friend?
...weird
