My Dad was a cowboy out on Santa Rosa in the 50s. It was a sheep and cattle ranch. He said they ate mutton every day. Swore he'd never eat sheep ever again. One of the first meals my Mom cooked was lamb chops. He ate it and told my Mom gently to never cook him lamb ever again. When we wanted lamb chops, my Mom also cooked pork chops for my Dad. He was out there for a couple years.
@talesfromchannelislands I love lamb and have had the opportunity to eat mutton, which I did not mind at all. I don't think my Dad kept anything from his time on the ranch. Don't know if any records were kept. His name was Jack Thomas Wilson, everyone called him "Red" for the glaring red hair he had! LOL.
When H. Houser interviewed the participants in a Californio Spanish/Mexican celebration he made sure to 'joke' with them "You arent here to rob us, are you❓" Stereotypes can have a long life... 🍷😏
I live in Vail, Arizona. The Vail family history is quite interesting, going back to Empire Ranch in the 1870s. Glad to have found this video.
I am glad you found it as well!

Thanks for sharing your story. May I ask do you still like lamb chops? Did he keep any of the tokens for sharing the sheeps?

@@teriblaser5443 He is still with us?
@talesfromchannelislands Unfortunately, no. He passed away in 1999. It would be wonderful if he was! He would be 107! That would have been amazing!
