    A friend of mine's wife (and her college girlfriends) have a Club 33 Membership. Given 72 hours notice, all he has to do is call them, and I receive Club 33 guest access.
    Synopsis of when I last went:
    The Club 33 outer door is locked for a reason. The park is nice, but it's a lot nicer starting on the other side of that door. You need to use the call-box to address the attendant. If you're on the list, she allows you to enter.
    Just inside the door is a desk and clerk where you check-in and start to realize the exclusivity of it all. There was a help-yourself lemonade and hot cocoa dispenser with glasses inscribed with 33. There are winding stairs and a small elevator available to take you to the upper level. Flower arrangements were everywhere to enjoy while you wait for your exact time of reservation.
    At the top of the stairs and exit of the elevator you find several Disney artifacts and imagery on the walls and in display cases. From this area you have 3 places to go; the bar, the restaurant, and the bathrooms.
    The bathrooms:
    Even though no attendant, besides being visually spotless it smelled clean. Everything stall was fully stocked and neat. Normal people wash their hands and then use a towel dispenser or blow dryer. I recall neither was available. After you wash your hands, you use nicely-folded heavy-duty-yet-soft paper napkins. These were of course emblazoned with the 33 logo. I kept some extras and gave them away as simple Christmas presents to Disney fanatics.
    The bar:
    In order to reach the main bar area, you have to walk through a darkened corridor with dimly lit booths on each side. Dark stained wood and glass was used heavily to decorate in this area. Once into the main bar area, more private booths lined the walls with a few tables in the middle area. The barback was immaculate and nearly fully stocked with the basics. I know this because they had no Seagram's 7 for ordering a 7&7. I thought my favorite beverage to be an older style drink, so I pressed the issue of not having Seagram's 7 to the bartender. The bartender said when I make my next reservation to ask for my favored alcohol to be stocked and he assured me it will be.
    The restaurant:
    There were about a dozen tables in this area. The table linens, plates, glassware and silverware were very clean. Once served, the glasses were never empty as the waiters were attentive but not over-bearing. The 5 course meal is meant to be special and you get that impression with the price. Each course portion was small but delicious. You pay for the quality and your taste buds definitely are rewarded for this. Most memorable was the soup. They bring you a bowl of vegetables and a glass of broth. When you're ready to eat your soup, you pour the broth into the bowl of ingredients. I thought the broth was tea at first ...then soon figured it all out.
    After drinks in the bar and the meal in the restaurant (and the hefty bill), I chose to step outside onto the veranda overlooking New Orleans Square. It is surprising how much one can see from this private vantage point above the public areas. I could almost read the minds of some of the people below looking up at me wondering "How did he get up there?".

    • @mww1006
      @mww1006 6 лет назад +3

      She and her girlfriends pooled their money and bought it ages ago. I was told this was during the years when interest in the membership was more at corporate professional levels and not just for average peoples. Interest increased of course and so each year since, the "girlfriend group" continues to pool money to renew while sharing the perks equally between them.
      The perks include: Club 33 access, park passes, fast passes, VIP escort days, etc ...and I will have to check, but I'm pretty sure their level of membership includes access to 1901 over at DCA.

    TL:DR - Walt Disney's in seam was 33" long, and his seamstress who made all his pants had an estranged husband who was a chef. The husband re-entered her life, and they feel madly in love. Walt saw this and thought it would be great to give them an opportunity to team up and make a unique dining experience. So the seamstress decorated, and upholstered all the furniture, curtains, etc & the husband was the head chef. They called it Club 33 as an inside joke to Walt's pant size.

    I find it ironic that this club in New Orleans Square is the result of Walt Disney trying to limit alcohol consumption in the parks while in the real New Orleans, there are drive-through liquor stores.

    The sponsor lounges are a really cool idea, and there a bunch of them at WDW. My dad used to work for a subsidiary of GM, so we got to go to the Test Track lounge on most of our trips. Has a really good views of Spaceship Earth, plus free coffee and soda. No bar, though they do give you FastPasses for the ride. If you or someone you know works for a company that sponsors a Disney ride - check to see if you can get to a lounge!

    The rumor I've heard is that club 33 was a place for freemasons. Supposedly, Walt Disney was a freemason. My grandfather who lived in southern California, and was also a freemason, claimed to be invited to club 33 all of the time. The number 33 is also an important number in freemasonry, so in many ways this theory makes sense.

    • @all_in_89
      @all_in_89 6 лет назад +3

      Walt Disney was not a freemason. He was a Demolay (A male youth group with masonic ties) but he never joined the Freemasons.

    The address of its location in the park is the correct answer. New Orleans Square buildings all have numbers which are synchronized just as those in New Orleans river colonies were, with odd numbers on the left and even numbers on the right (when standing at the river, facing New Orleans Square), with those buildings closest to the river having the lowest numbers and increasing from there. Check out the building numbers the next time you stroll through New Orleans Square.

    I happen to know Peter Clark who helped establish Club 33. (Walt wanted it. He did the legwork). The spark for Club 33 actually started with Holidayland, an often forgotten “land” of Disneyland when the park was opened. This area of the park was set aside for companies to rent out and have picnics and activities. Holidayland proved unpopular because the companies would rather spend time inside Disneyland rather than wasting time in Holidayland doing activities and playing games that could be done in any city park. Peter Clark was in charge of Holidayland and when it closed he became the Vice President Of Corporate Relations, a title he held until his retirement. This video is entirely correct but one day when I asked Peter about Club 33 this is the story he gave me. Didn’t even mention the World’s Fair but it I am not saying you’re incorrect. You are - it’s just that Club 33 is not some wild idea that Walt had that sprung like magic from the World’s Fair. Rather, it would appear that Walt always wanted to have a way to entertain corporate guests and the World’s Fair showed him how it can be done and remain successful.

    And, my personal favourite theory for how Club 33 got its name...despite it not being true in the slightest, Disney is a part of the Illuminati and that number stands for him being a creator and being "enlighten" or something like that.

    Note that Club 33 has undergone a redesign as of 2014 and the original entrance is no longer used since the antique wrought iron elevator wasn't ADA complaint.
    Now the entrance is in the former Cour des Anges to the right of the door. More details here: www.disneylandclub33.com/Expansion.htm
    During the expansion guests had a private area in DCA at the Carthay Circle -- the members started to complain as the food was much better there than it was at Club 33.

    Rob, I don't know if you were aware of this, but the Carousel of Progress had its VIP lounge when it came to Disneyland. My dad's employer did a lot of work with GE, and his contact at GE hosted my family at the VIP lounge in the Carousel. I was about ten at the time, so I don't recall if the adults had anything other than Coca-Cola in their beverage glasses.

    I’ve dined there several times. First time in the early 80’s. The waiter told me it was named 33 after the 33 original backers of Disneyland. I ate in a room called the hunting room. It had a lot of hunting trophies on the walls. I was told they belonged to Walt’s neighbor who loved hunting. Walt did not like hunting so as a joke the neighbor left them to Walt after he died.There was also a microphone in the chandelier and a camera put in an armoire so Walt could listen in and spy on people dining there and sometimes even comment back at them. I heard Walt died before he could ever pull this trick.

    • @MidwaytoMainStreet
      @MidwaytoMainStreet  6 лет назад +2

      Nobody knows quite yet. It's a toss up. If they really do put one in every park, we'll be going from 1 Club 33 to 5. So the variety and size might demand more members to make it work it, and thus lower prices to join. I have a feeling it won't ever be opened all the way up to AP or DVC members though. If I had to guess, I'd think they'd just knock down the fees so that they're less expensive while still being exclusively expensive. Think $5,000-$10,000 joining feed instead of $25,000-$50,000.

      Varies by video, but on average I might spend 2 days researching and writing the script (not two full days, but over the course of my free time those days). Shooting the video itself only takes 20-30 minutes, and editing can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours depending on how long it is and if I throw anything special in there. All in all I'd guess I put about 7 or 8 hours into each video.
