Do Aboriginal Australians value education on country?

  • Aboriginal communities really celebrated and valued education on country. We hope it will contribute to the debate on “Closing the GAP” for the many Aboriginal kids missing out in remote Australia.

      @@karthikpuvvula Nope, your Indian history that is taught as "fact" is an amalgamation of very old legends and stories, some even written recently, that were all put together in order to create a shared history between the multiple ethnic groups of India so as to create sense of overall Indian nationalism. If it weren't for the creation of this unifying "legendary history", India would've just balkanized and not gained its independence. But unfortunately it comes at the expense of any true discoveries about India's real past, because everyone just seems to be content with this version. India's attitude towards history is just kind of odd in general when compared to the rest of the world. The line between 'Gods who roamed the earth' and real history is often blurred.

    I am originally from Wales UK and we have spent the last 30 years trying to ensure the Welsh language is not lost. All children attending school in Wales must learn Welsh. I feel for anyone losing their culture their history - your native language is needed to understand the stories passed down.

    • @bobbyhunt100
      @bobbyhunt100 2 года назад +19

      Unlike the Welsh, the Aboriginal people of Australia were not a united group or even, with the greatest licence, a "Nation", but mostly small groups of hunter gatherers (ideally, according to research around 50 people each ) who regularly traded goods but also fought over women and better hunting grounds. As such there were around 250 different aboriginal languages spoken at the time of the British settlement, and there are still around 120 languages in existence today with many in danger of being lost forever. With millions of Welsh speakers and/or Gaelic I can understand how it could be beneficial to maintain that heritage by inclusion in the school syllabus, however as much as it may help with their own identity, it must be a project undertaken by individual communities to ensure the continuation of their own language group and if the elders are not active enough to teach and the children willing enough to learn, their languages which are of benefit only to themselves will sadly ultimately disappear.

      You really should educate yourself before speaking. Maybe go live for a few years in an aboriginal community would be a good start. The maybe do a bit of study on languages. Real languages, and an alphabet and counting system of value, nouns, adjectives. Did you know there were thousands of tribal groups on the continent when Cook arrived. Different tribes communicated completely different to others. Many waring with each other killing each other and taking slaves, and cannibalism, yes that's right. There so called culture was many thousands from thousands of small groups which a large one was no more than 30. Passing down stories of dreamtime and rainbow serpents will not help anyone or anything. The people you hear talked about today were never a united Nation of people. And the only "full blood I think I have ever seen was 40 years ago. Today you would be lucky to find a 1/8 indigenous. The sooner they accept they lost the better. They should be grateful for everything they have now in this country, every road, every house, the food they eat, the doctors that see them, the cars they drive, the freedoms they enjoy was all built by immigrants, EVERY SINGLE THING.

      There are 7 things God absolutely hates listed in Proverbs.

      Jesus died for sinners who love and accept him and live their lives abstaining from sin. Those who don’t do this, are going to Hell. Get off your high horse. Some people will go to Heaven and some people will go to hell. That’s just the way it is. Jesus is the free choice that everyone has to accept or reject and if you end up in Hell, it’s because you rejected that choice. And not everyone who calls on Jesus is going to Heaven to be with him. There’s a lot of “Christians” walking around who are only Christians by their lips and not their heart. Bible a lot about this.

      God really hates prideful and proud people who looks at other as less than. And this mentality will only reserve them a seat in Hell. Not with God. Jesus dying for you doesn’t permanently exempt you from going to Hell, Jesus serves as the oath and the promise you must keep and follow for life to beat this whole test. I can drop Bible verses for anyone who needs scripture proof.

    Northern Aboriginal Australians can trace as much as 11% of their genomes to migrants who reached the island around 4,000 years ago from India, a new study suggests. Along with their genes, the migrants also have brought more advanced tool-making techniques and the ancestors of the dingo.
    The Anthropological Survey of India supports a deep genetic link between Indian tribes and Australian Aborigines.
    When the Anthropological Survey of India sampled 966 samples of individuals from 26 different modern-day Indian tribes, they found a genetic marker that until recently had only been seen in Australian Aboriginals.
    They are extremely the same as Indian Dalit people.
    These included Aboriginal Australians from the Northern Territories, highlanders from Papua New Guinea, several populations from Southeast Asian and India, and a handful of people from the US and China.
    She confirmed an ancient association between the genomes of Australians, New Guineans, and the Mamanwa - a Negrito group from the Philippines. These populations diverged from each other around 36,000 years ago, suggesting that they all descended from an early southward migration out of Africa.
    But Pugach also found evidence of more recent gene flow from India and northern Australia, which took place around 141 generations ago. This genetic fraction could not have been come from the initial wave of migrants into Australia, since it is absent from New Guinean and Mamanwa genomes, and it is too uniformly spread across the northern Aboriginal genomes to have come from European colonists.
    This genetic mingling coincided with the arrival of microliths - small stone tools that formed the tips of weapons - and the first appearance of the dingo, which most closely resembles Indian dogs. All of these changes may be related to the same migration.
    “There have been very few genetic studies of Australians," Stoneking says, "and not anything like the dense genome-wide study we carried out.” A few smaller studies of mitochondrial DNA and the Y-chromosome had hinted at recent gene flow between India and Australia2,3, but an earlier genome-wide study missed it by not including any Indian populations4, and a project that sequenced a full Aboriginal genome dismissed signs of gene flow from India as a spurious result

It is good that they learn and progress in their reading and understanding (media literacy), writing and arithmetic AND about their culture. I dont know. I dont speak Gaelic, or Old English, or Hebrew and I dont feel sorry for myself. I will never see the homelands of "my" people but I am Australian. My education taught me maths, science and craft. As we learn about it some useful things from other cultures will be added although the woke like to keep us all separate. It must be nice to be able to live where your ancestors were. We had to go where the food and the jobs and the hospitals were. I just dont sympathize with a lot of this

      @@_Nigil_ bro australian aborigines are tamilians who went and settled there before europeans invade. If you don't believe check some places in Australia like Uluru, in tamil there's a phrase called ull ooru which means centre part of the land, and pinnacles park in Australia, in tamil pinnakal means symmetry stones and also kaluru kaluru in Australia, manjanathi river everything is related to tamil words and tamilians are the first race tonuse boomerang in history and Australian aborigines use boomerang too their local dogs breed is a country breed dog in a state called cudallore in tamil nadu and the old name marsupial for kangaroo is a tamil term meaning which gives milk to suck for the young ones also in Australia there are more than 100 schools which gives the freedom to choose tamil as 3rd language, that is the reason we tell Australian and New Zealand tribes have connection with tamilians. Moreover to be precise in uluru cave paintings there are paintings which denotes a group of people coming in ships and boats and foods and pets.

      @Alex Johnson Many Aboriginals today are NOT black. Many who claim Aboriginal heritage to get the extra benefits available to ONLY Aboriginals are as light skinned as any caucasian. They can pass from one ethnic group to the next depending on which ethnic group gives them more benefits in a certain situation. The Aboriginal gravy train rolls on.

    • @Ray-wm8dz
      @Ray-wm8dz 4 года назад +4

      @Alex Johnson And what do you think affirmative action is? A nice word? Nope, it's extras which no other race has. You define benefits very, very narrowly. You get extra money in grants, jobs, scholarships, housing, health , dental etc just because of your race, yet you keep parroting you don't get MORE. LOL
