Hi Lyne, than you for the informative information! As Black-American, I'm looking to purchase a home with land in Rwanda to retire. Would I have to become a citizen of Rwanda before I can purchase land? If so, is there a way to expedite the process for Black-Americans...possibly connected to Africa's efforts to get more blacks to return? Any one from any part of the world can purchase land or a house in Rwanda. All you need is a passport.

This is great news. I'd rather purchase a home and land and not have to leasehold. I hope to visit a few countries in Africa next year and will let you know when I plan to visit Rwanda. Thank you again, Lyne. Also, I've read information that one can apply for citizenship after 15 years of residency in Rwanda. My thinking was I'd have go this route in order to purchase land (not leasehold), but it sounds like that's not the case according to your response. Is this correct, Lyne?

I think is about 99 years hold.
The problem is that many agents won't tell you about this when they were advertising land for sale.
In some other Africa land is a leasehold and some countries in Africa also practice free hold land policy
