Man, how are you gonna do an arrangement that has Zak just sing in a chorus on a song that he sang lead on originally?? And only to then have him sing a song that John Brink absolutely can sing leagues better anyway? I appreciate them doing more Savatage, but I feel like they should have done it more like the original like they did with Welcome a couple of years ago

      Welcome/Beethoven opening was legendary

Couldn’t have said it better myself. When I first saw the set list this morning, I got excited when I saw The Hourglass as the opener. It immediately brought me back to 2021 when Zak opened with Welcome, also from Wake of Magellan, which was epic. But man they really dropped the ball with this arrangement. Let Zak sing the whole song dammit! And to add to it, he’s not even singing This Isn’t What We Meant………Kayla Reeves is. They have 2 of his songs in the set list this year and won’t even let him sing them. Frustrating.

If they didn't have John Brink on the East side then Zak would be fine for Lost Christmas Eve. But John's just so much better at it... anyway no hate to any of them it still seems like another great show.

@@clemsonpirate7144I was scared about that... I mean, I get that they probably want a song for everyone (or almost everyone) to sing lead on, so I understand Kayla singing the tribute song to Paul, which is usually what they do anyway. But RIGHT?? They could have easily had Kayla sing another song (probably).

@@styxtarAgreed fully. I don't remember fully, but I could have sworn Zak always did Lost Christmas Eve, and I do love him for it, but ever since they got John Brink and I heard his version, I instantly fell in love with him. He actually sings the high notes in the song! Lol

Not too keen on this arrangement for The Hourglass. Just seems off. Maybe it’ll grow on me by my show on the 30th, but I would’ve preferred time and distance, night enchanted, or who I am again.

Always thought this would be a good opener, if not at the beginning then the 2nd half. Could have been done much better. I get what they're trying to do with getting the vocalists in at the start then featuring the band in the instrumental. The original is a long song so getting a snippet is understandable to a degree. The three part harmony could have been epic and this recording didn't quite pick it up.
